Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Given the context was about the coffee cart, I'm a bit disappointed you didn't include expresso love in your post somewhere.

Is expresso love a euphemism for a quickie?

Maybe. For those that don't know, Expresso Love is a 30-year old Dire Straits song. Music lyrics in the early 1990s were probably more subtle with their references to that particular physical activity than the music of today. (Mind you, not as appalling as the Starland Vocal Band's nearly 50-year old "Afternoon Delight"). I've always thought Expresso Love was blending two themes - appreciation for a woman with a love for coffee ("tastes just like a peach", "with the honeysuckle musk" and "I don't want no sugar in it"* are all, in my view, references to coffee).

NB: *Demonstone - please direct your complaints about the double negative to Mark Knopfler.

Sorry Kev, I was making a silly joke - a play on words from that stupid dire straits song combiing your comment you don't like something for nothing  and radomly working in free kicks

As in 'money for nothing and your kicks for free'

Safe to say, quite a stretch.

But I agree with you about free kicks btw.

Except it's chicks for free....have you been singing Alex the Seal whenever our lips are sealed comes on for 40 years too Bin??

Oh yes, so it is.

My joke was a total bust from start to finish!

Chicks for free?

The 80s were certainly another time.

Can't imagine a major record label would be putting out police's Don't stand so close to me in 2022.

100% about the coffee.  The Stones also pioneered the coffee analogy into rock & roll with their very raw... "Brown Sugar"

I don’t know how old he was when he wrote it but he was 33 when it was released. Twice the age you’d hope for him to have been. Any way you cut it, that’s a big bunch of wrong. 😁

The Beatles opened their Melbourne concert at Festival Hall in 1964 with "I Saw Her Standing There" which starts with the lines, "Well, she was just seventeen, you know what I mean".

Times have changed.

"Brown Sugar" was definitely NOT about coffee!

It's also not the original working title of the song which I wouldn't dare post on a family forum like Demonland.

They no longer play the song in concerts given the belated backlash to the lyrical content.

Ripping tune all the same and one of their all time best tracks.

Back on topic (Dire Straits) - this was posted here in December 2020 after it was announced that Josh Mahoney was going to Essendon and that Mark Williams had been hired as an assistant at Melbourne.

"I know we've been in dire straits, but I didn't expect to lose Mahoney for nothing and get Chocs for free."

I laughed at the thought, then googled. They ARE still performing!!!  60th anniversary tour this year.

I'll never bag Geelong again!

Ringo didn’t write it… it’s written by the Sherman brothers and was originally recorded by, I think, Johnny Burnette; although lyrically it’s probably something more suited to Jerry Lee Lewis.

God I loved that song when we all balanced and I walked home at 3.30 pm

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
