Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Question:

Harry Petty does a brilliant job one on one one against Curnow to spoil and not infringe, only just hitting Curnow's outstretched arms as happens in 50 aerial contests a match.

Yet the umpire pays a free. Ok, that's the benchmark for a marking infringement.

Brown and Gawn get scragged and their arms held and/or smashed at every aerial contest they are engaged in in and yet receive barely a single free between them.

What up with that?

P.S - asking for a friend.

1. You can't ask questions

2. You are absolutely right and I already have that in my notes. Brown has his arms chopped in almost every contest he is in but barely ever gets a free for it. We seem to get at least 1 free or more a week resulting in a shot at goal for some kind of marking infringement in our backline.

I'd like to hear from the panel and listeners if (especially in the last two weeks) when we're losing they also put their wireless ear buds in the ears to block out the impending final siren opposition roar that hurts too much and then when Kozzie kicked the winning the buds went flying out and needed some serious finding afterwards!

I actually left the MCG to my own demise... At least was able to stop at Gate 4 and scream like crazy with other fellow demons

Several media pundits, as well as some Demonlanders, are posturing (correctly in my view) that we are currently playing conservative football, without the match-winning ‘flare & dare’ that proved so successful in the recent past.

What do the panel think about this aspect of our play, and in particular, what is the reason for it (?).  Is it a structural / personnel / form issue (?).  Is it a tactical decision on our part, and if so why (?);  Is it being forced upon us by opposition tactics (?).  Is it an approach we can readily revive now that we are at the pointy end of the season (?).

Thanks

I was at the game and thought a number of our players were not moving freely. Question for the panel: do you also see that?

I understand the football dept. adopted the Burgess mantra last year and have continued this year, of resilience(don’t necessarily nurse/rest injuries and niggles, rather continue to train and play through). I also understand these injuries and niggles are monitored by experienced professionals but I am wondering maybe the cumulative effects across the team are starting to impact players Gawn, Trac, Kossie, Lever, Salem, Brayshaw to name a few. Your thoughts please.

You can also add May be pushed in the center of the back ,  by McKay ( using his hands not his forearms )  , so McKay could mark

I would LOVE you guys (all three of you!) to sing Melksy’s praises! Loud and unrestrained.
He’s copped nothing but disdain on Demonland, and from Dees fans in general. Goody even mentioned in his post-match that Jake has been maligned.

It’d be so cool to hear you guys talk about the Melksy qualities and how they can help us go all the way!

Thank you 🙂

Yet the majority of Carlton supporters claim they were hard done by the umpires 🤦🏻‍♂️

Big Benny Brown was either constantly running under the ball in marking contest or was only using the one hand to take attempt to take a mark. Was he misreading the ball coming in and is he only using one hand in an attempt to bring the ball to ground? What going on with Brown? I know this question is asked every single week but do you think we will consider bringing in another tall or do we cross our fingers and hope that TMac miraculously recovers for finals and is match fit?

I’ve been banging on about this for months, BBB gets absolutely smashed over and over again and gets doughnuts from the umps. One contest from a few games back I slowmo’d for my wife, BB was simultaneously being arm chopped, pushed in the back and punched in the back of the head, play on said the ump! Naughton would have had the free and a 50 for good measure should the same have occurred to him. I genuinely don’t think BB makes it obvious enough he’s been infringed upon compared to others and as such misses out on several he should get

Do we have the option to tinker and adjust to a greater % of more aggressive ball movement? Or  do we have to stick to what we know, even if some opposition have come up with successful strategies to limit its effectiveness

Sorry, just read “deeoldfart” question. Am pretty much asking the same thing, so can scrap this one.

Simple question.

If we lose on Friday and don't finish Top 4, can we win the premiership?

I am of the opinion that absolutely we can and that the with the current finals structure, finishing 5th or 6th gives perhaps an even easier road to PF weekend than finishing 3rd or 4th.

Looking ahead to Friday’s game:

If we get up by 4 goals mid way through the last quarter, does Goody keep up the intensity to take 2nd spot or do we revert to the norm and shut up shop happy with securing the top 4 spot?

According to the “best analyst in the game”, David King, we’ve become very conservative/boring with our ball movement (from d50 to f50) and champion data has us ranked 17th for it since round 16. We were 1st in the comp from rounds 1-7 (and basically 1st all year last year)

What has been the catalyst for this change? We’ve always been a strong defensive side so it’s not like we were leaking goals and now need to play conservative so it’s a head scratcher for mine.

I’m sure you’ll get to it anyway but.. does struggling to get over the line against the blues and struggling to put away pies and doggies mean we aren’t really in contention? Last year we felt like clearly the best team in it, albeit with some shock losses along the way. 2022 has a v different flavour. As exciting as Sat eve was I have no idea where we genuinely stand at all.

C'mon if we are 4 goals up we all know the answer. We shut up shop and get rolled

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
