Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I can get frustrated during the game and show it on the game day thread. But especially after a win you've got to be more positive. It's a very even season we are right in it. Carlton were playing for their season keep the faith

Optimists v pessimists. I don’t care which one you are. I think you need both to get a full picture although I’m glad I’m an optimist by nature.

I think it’s just as annoying someone telling you to just smile mate everything is honky dory, she’ll be right as it is someone catastrophising all the time. Some posters are over the top negative for sure, but I think these are balanced out by the optimists on the site.

I don’t like entitlement (Hawthorn fans the worst in this regard). We were never going to just turn up this year and win it. Too many good coaches and teams in this league to allow that to happen

The players are grinding and battling away. No lack of effort as far as I can tell. But our game plan is taxing. Very difficult to maintain the levels of energy and work rate required to execute it consistently. And we have forward issues. Blind Freddy can tell you that.

I’m just going to enjoy the ride from here on. Head to the games and support the team, take the good with the bad, the positive with the negative. And if we lose I might post a rant on demonland. I thought that was the point of the forum. Let off some steam, respectfully of course

I'll never understand why people worry so much about what others say or think, let alone start a thread about it.

People can be as negative or as positive as they like.

Because constant negativity is tedious, especially when we are currently 2nd on the ladder and just won a game in the dying seconds against a hated enemy.

Over the past 30 years only four clubs have managed to go back to back. Adelaide once (1998), Brisbane twice (2002, 2003), Hawthorn twice (2014, 2015), and Richmond once (2020).

Geelong has never done it. Their three premierships in 2007, 2009 and 2011 were followed by Hawthorn, Collingwood and Sydney, respectively.

Maybe this will help people with their expectations of this year, but winning one is tough, but going back to back is a rare feat. You’re dealing with complacency, culture changes, list changes, figured out game plan, a harder draw,  worse draft picks and most importantly - and I can’t stress this enough - a professional league of other elite clubs where every other team is trying to achieve the same goal.

Keep positive. Enjoy the footy we’re playing. Enjoy that we’re still extremely competitive and will be playing finals. Stop comparing it to last year and most of all have some healthy respect to the competition we’re facing.

Go Dees.

Fantastic post.  Suggest it should be the Demonland banner for the remainder of 2022.

For all the negative Dee's supports here, take a moment and ponder this question... take all of your negative feelings about our game plan, our weaknesses, our team selection, and analyse it through the lens of our ladder position. If, and I mean IF, everything you feel is true and we're still second despite all that, what does that mean for what we can accomplish if we address all that concerns you?

And what does it mean for he relative strength of the opposition?

For a team that nearly finished top of the ladder last season and made a prelim, the Cats have had incredibly soft draw, made easer by nearly half their games at a ground that arguably gives them the biggest home ground advantage of any in the AFL (perhaps line ball with the Gabba)

The pies had a soft draw courtesy of not making final's last year, which is fair enough under the AFL's stupid equalization 'fixture' system.

Brisbane have had a pretty tough draw, but have an amazing record at the Gabba and so get a, deserved, leg up there.

And the Swans draw was not super strong.

By contrast we have had arguably the hardest draw of any team with a ridiculous schedule and multiple short breaks.

In our last three games we have beaten two other top 8 teams - a knock some had on us prior to the freo game (ie our record against top 8 teams). And we almost beat another in the pies, in arguably our best performance of the year.

The home and away season is almost done, all teams have played each other at least once, and therefore the ladder is a pretty good representation of the relative strength of every team.

We are currently second on the  ladder, which makes for a good argument for the dees being one of the two best teams in the AFL - better than 16 other teams, six of which will be possible finals opponents.

The punters, not coincidentally, have us clear second favorites to win the flag behind ladder leader, Geelong.

Brisbane won a triple limping into finals each year and bringing Clarke Keating in.
Hawthorn’s threepeat must’ve had some disappointing or unexpected losses.

Can’t actually recall single one of those losses in six years of flags

I'll join in the standing ovation for this post.

As horrendous as it sounds, just for one moment, forget 2021 happened. We are having our best year to date since 1964 when there were 12 teams. What would Demonland look like then!

Our emotions flucuate madly during and immediately after matches because we are so passionate and invested. That passion is why we stuck with the club during some horrific decades. 3 years ago we were 17th - that is West Coast today.

Think about that. Tell their supporters they'll be sitting 2nd on the ladder in 3years. I'm guessing they would accept that.

Let's smell the roses and not what feeds them.

MFCSS used to be warranted around here. These days I just see more and more new usernames popping up and being increasingly negative, and talking in ridiculous absolutes i.e. we can’t win this year (even after a win)

Unfortunately the quality of this communities members is slipping by the day. So many new members that are mostly unable to add anything of depth or interest, just repeated negativity in an almost troll like manner. Sucks really.

Some people are glass half full and see the negatives in life. For anyone who loves positivity the series Ted Lasso is a fantastic show. As a negative personality person I love it. I would love to be more like him. But I'm not. And while I'm reasonably well adjusted (thank you) there are a lot of people where their negativity can overwhelm them.

I think your post is borderline bullying telling people how they should think or feel. What arrogance. And to be on here doing that means you are not a truly positive person yourself. Just pumping up your own tyres at the expense of others.

We’re not playing well. We’re not as fluent, in sync, as sharp as we were this time last year. I think our game plan has become stale, too predictable. There are tweaks required in the off season for sure. It’s hard work for the boys at the moment.

But we have a team chock full of champions. We have gotten ourselves into winning positions in pretty much every game through sheer force of will. Maxy is an out and out champion. Viney, Clarry, may, petty. And we have class in kossie, trac, Frisch and now Melks through his brilliant renaissance. If we click good luck to the rest of the comp. And even if we don’t we have bucketloads of willpower. I doubt any team is looking forward to playing us in September.

I’m giving us a 3/1 chance of winning it. If we fall short I’m sure it won’t be for lack of effort. I’m looking forward to the ride.

At least our struggles have forced the so-called pundits to take off their blinkers and concede that Melbourne didn't just have to turn up to win this year's flag. It's not a VoN to recognise that Melbourne have weaknesses, that Melbourne played a lot of also-rans in the first ten games, that many of the other teams would come up with countermeasures in 2022; that without any clear improvements in game style and tactics - the old if you stand still the others will go past you rule - that without a similar run with injury and fitness in 2022 we would be up against it.

PS: Does Ben Brown standing in packs and putting one arm up constitute a new tactic? Maybe he's trying to bunt the ball down to crumbers, and at least it is preventing opposition marks. I'd like to see him occasionally flip the ball over the back.

Some of the comments in the post match thread were depressing to read. In hindsight I actually loved yesterday's game. I'd be lying if I said that I never felt stressed and frustrated throughout the game but it was a brilliant contest between two teams who both had lots to play for.

I think we should all be proud of last night's win. Carlton were always going to come out firing and we stood up when it mattered.

MFCSS rubs true

We are 2nd on the ladder with a round and a half to go for 2022. Yes our form isn't as strong leading into finals as last year. Yes our best footy is still the best in the competition, despite not showing often enough

I for one am sick to death of the negative nancies on here and the real world who are saying we can't win it. Of course we bloody can. We're in this up to our eyeballs.

Too many years of MFCSS unfortunately haven't been washed away despite last year's win - just because it's a close season doesn't mean we haven't got a shot at it fron here - can't win them all as an absolute dominant side - that's actually a rarity!

Is our best THE best? I am not convinced. Based on what? It is not impossible that Melbourne will win the flag but it is the least likey outcome. That is not negative or positive but a realistic assesment on exposed form. The Demons certainly have the capacity but presently lack the spark, ingenuity, resourcefulness, stamina and 'intangibles' being demonstrated by other serious opponents.

The little spoken of and a legitimate danger is Richmond.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
