Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We need all the support we can get.  Be that optimists, pessimists or realists.

We will not win it all playing like we did last night is 100% true.....We are far from playing at our best though!

Win , lose, or draw we all are different in the way we support this team.

No need to lay the boots into those that might have some doubts.

We are all Demon supporters and love this team no matter our differences!

Hardly laying the boots in.

Some doubts? A couple of posters seem fairly confident we’re making up the numbers.

I agree with the rest of your post.

Loving the club and having an opinion on their form/list/gameplan are not mutually exclusive.

Agreed but if someone is confident we’re only making up the numbers why put yourself through it? It seems some will with the sole purpose of coming on here and telling us they were right.

That's what we want an unbiased commentator commentating on a game and pissing off half the crowd.

I thought last night at the G that as a supporter group we don’t have an easy run. That’s the second home game in a row where we are outnumbered at our home ground.

Geelong, Eagles, Freo, Crows, Power, Brisbane, Sydney, Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Richmond and often even the Hawks don’t have to contend with that.

Then, because we have smaller supporter numbers, commentators openly barrack for the opposition on TV - because that’s what the majority of viewers want.

It sucks being a Melbourne supporter.

And Alf Potter keeps panning to Michael Voss's reactions. I wonder whether Voss is coming to Brisbane next Friday night.

I would be thrilled beyond comprehension, to be proved wrong about everything I think of the Dees footy, if we can win another flag or two in the next few years.

Lets win our next 4 games and🏆

Go Dees.

We played better against the Pies even though we lost. We had 24 more inside fifty’s, had we kicked straight it could/should of been a different result.

When we played Geelong Max and LJ were returning from injury. Max was clearly hindered, we were right in it up until about 10 minutes in the last. The couple of late goals flattered them.

Yes we need to look at tweaking a couple of things but I don’t think there is a need for mass changes. 3 weeks ago our biggest concern was pressure, our turnovers killed us last night. We need to take the game on more and be prepared to mix things up. Carlton at times last night kicked to space on the fat side rather than down the line and backed their players in to win. With players like Hunt we should play to their strengths.

I’m not sold on pessimism as a form of support. I understand it’s psychological benefit to the pessimist, but see no value of it to the side, or other supporters.

Realism shouldn’t exclude hope, nor the ability to understand how difficult the competition is. I agree there’s room for a myriad of emotions, but it often feels like the same people having the same emotion on repeat.

And another realist might be saying we are not playing that well :P

Personally i live in hope when it comes to the Demons.

It is highly likely a lot of our supporters have been broken by supporting them over the years.

Pessimists still hope and support this club.

It is a good thing we are all not the same....We have glass if full, empty or everywhere in between types supporting every club.

I actually think it’s quite realistic to say we aren’t even playing at 60% of our capability. We all know how good our best is. 👍

I just get tired of people saying ‘that was terrible’ when it excludes the reality of the competition. Carlton were literally playing for their first finals spot in 9 seasons. That meant everything to them, and often the opposition’s effort doesn’t get given enough credit by some. Carlton poured everything into that game, and I think would have beaten 14 or 15 of the 18 teams in the comp with the effort they put in last night.

Wow now that was a game for the ages. Carlton had everything to play for and we still beat them. No doubt they have us their all and we still won. So many games we’ve lost like this and for once we beat them.
Melksham, Kozzie were back in form. I was a bit worried about a town at the start but he came good when we needed him. Now we’ve shown we can win when all hope seems lost. So proud of the boys tonight. Well done ❤️

That's it Cassiew. We had to become the hunter and take the game on with a bit of dare. Best I've felt after a match since the Premiership......until I read the comments that told me we were doomed for all eternity.

McKay and Curnow are great players and we did a decent job of curbing their influence - I think we were fortunate that Curnow finished with 1.4.  I just wonder if we could have improved the match-up - I think Petty on McKay and May on Curnow is possibly a more effective combination that plays to our strengths.  Petty has the reach to go with McKay and May has the strength and mobility to go with Curnow.

Unsure about the strategy Carlton's number 43 used against Oliver, at the centre bounces.

Oliver had to spend his time retaliating to the hits to his torso.

He appeared to not be focused on the ball and distracted  from the game. If he turned his back to him the oppo would hit his back.

Oliver used a good strategy to get his opponent away from the contest, so he could run towards the ruck, under less pressure.

Just don't get how that 43 got away with it, I think it was within the rules but should it be?

The taggers cannot just play the man and  cause one of the best in the game have to wear themselves out fighting and not playing.

The holding and grabbing that the likes of Oliver and Gawn get must be incredibly frustrating and exhausting for them.

You'd think a couple of free kicks here and there would slow the scragging down.

Yet the opposite happened a some light contact by Oliver on his opponent on the Carlton F50 arc was penalised and gave them an easy shot at goal. Luckily they missed I think.

It's bloody frustrating watching it. I can't imagine what it must be like to be held off the contest continuously like Oliver is.

Concern is our method going  into FW50 hasn't changed with continued bombing and not lowering their eyes!

I'm concerned at a deeper level than this

Lowering the eyes won't help when there's no one there to kick to

Seems everyone is concerned with getting into defensive positions and we struggle to get fwd again then hit up a lead, so even on a fast break we end up going for an unlikely kick over the top to Fritta who's outnumbered and easily spoiled, then opposition walks the ball out with numbers

Watching Jordan cover a couple of switches was frustrating, just refused to close down the player - zoned off and gave time for hard runners to provide options

Carlton lack experience  on the big stage and were contesting with each other for marks in the final minutes. Dees stood back and took the crumbs. We kick goals when it really counts. That acting performance by  the Carlton defender holding onto Melks was pathetic and the umpire rightly pinged him for it. Should cop a fine as well.

Hunt Rivers Melks and Hibberd all cranking up for September.

Petracca looks flat . Is he carrying an injury?

So apparently there is a another of complaining from Carlton fans about the umpiring last night. Aside from a few botched calls I thought it was pretty decent and they let the game flow.

I thought we got a good run in general

What pisses me right off is the difference in the HtB calls last night vs Coll game - last night was much more reasonable, last week the Umps were far harsher, 2 goals to Coll in particular

Last night's non call on Silvagni, vs last weeks call against Jordan

The 50 wasn't for the acting unfortunately,  but it should have been.

Melk cleverly fained running around and a Carlton player was in protected area and lunged in towards Melk instead of moving away as he should have

Sometimes we just have to remember it's a two team sport and it's not meant to be easy. Carlton team hasn't played finals in nearly a decade, Cripps and Co were playing like men posessed.

I agree tweaks are needed, and I agree it probably looks like we're further off than we actually are.

I don’t know how many down field free kicks we gave away last night for a bump on the kicker after the kick, but they blew the whistle on it all night and we just kept giving them away. Clarry got pinged more than once, we should have learned and backed off.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
