Was interesting to see Steven May run all the way over to the interchange bench and have an animated chat with Goody after Curnow’s goal. He ran back to defense afterwards and was waving his arms and communicating some kind of message to Petty and Lever. It’s not noticeable what the message was but thought it was good forethought from May at the time.

It's 3 on 3 at the centre bounce, their 3 was usually Cripps, Walsh and Docherty or some combination - they can play.

Our crumbers aren't first rate like say Cyril, Farmer or Betts.  Kossie might end up being extra good but he's not there yet (needs more time) 

And we often kick long to the left flank or left pocket and that is where Brown is.  And when we kick deep to the right pocket, it's usually towards Brown as well

As previously discussed elsewhere on other threads, we need to mix things up more and seek out other forwards in the hot spot just outside the goal square or to CHF.  The other forwards need to lead a lot more too

The way I read it is we want to lock the ball in our forward line so using the forward line corridor risks turning the ball over to the opposition (who can then counter attack on a fast break)

Switching play from the wing to the other HFF or other pocket could also be viewed as risky so we often continue down that same wing side attack on that same side of the ground

So Brown starts his movements from the goal square (or thereabouts) either heading left or right which means that he is often targeted by default (based on how we enter the forward line)

By the time the ball near Brown arrives, multiple defenders have arrived at the same time (thus, the triple-teaming)

However, we did target Gawn a bit last might who was often a bit further out near CHF but Max wasn't holding his marks

So I felt we did change things up a bit compared to the Collingwood game

Lol, my wife is currently in the other room and I can hear he playing highlights on her phone. Again.

Last night she started to struggle emotionally and did the old 'Oh, we're not going to win now' routine after the Curnow goal.

I've asked her to say that right at the start of the game next week so we can score a steady 60 goals.

I’m not sold on pessimism as a form of support. I understand it’s psychological benefit to the pessimist, but see no value of it to the side, or other supporters.

Realism shouldn’t exclude hope, nor the ability to understand how difficult the competition is. I agree there’s room for a myriad of emotions, but it often feels like the same people having the same emotion on repeat.

Side note: Despite playing possibly his worst game for the season, Bailey Fritsch is now the only player left standing with a goal from every game of the season.

A little story. Early in Kozzie’s career against Carlton, the bloke in front of me kept swearing at Kozzie and calling him Cyril and just continually bagging him. I was sitting with my son, daughter and granddaughter. I leaned forward and asked him to stop the language and leave Kozzie alone. He and his daughter together turned around and told me to f-ck off and we’re baiting me to fight. They continued to make comments all game, until we won.

Last night my kids sat in front of a piece of scum, who just swore disgustingly all night.

This is a common thread from people I have spoken to over the years.

They also bag their own players unmercifully.

Yes they are the worst supporters by a mile and I wish them nothing but failure.

Whether we are pessimistic, optimistic or realistic doesn't matter a lot anyway

We're not out there playing or coaching and how we react shouldn't effect a player or players anyway

A great example were the years 2012 & 2013.  All the pessimists were having their say here as were all the optimists (in a poll held towards the end of 2102 over 97% of people here wanted Neeld to continue on and see out his contract)

But we were a terrible side and the poor results kept coming whilst we were just yapping away almost pointlessly

The optimists can often see no wrong and they need to be optimistic to satisfy their needs whilst many others are only happy when they've got something to complain about (the pessimists)

Sport is a departure from real life for many.  We are tribal and our instincts connected to that tribalism has the same goal - winning.  We just go about searching for that success in different ways

We’ve dealt with two games in a row of extreme tackling pressure , which will hold us in good stead for the following weeks.

Its been almost freaky how Collingwood and Carlton managed to sustain that intense pressure for 4 quarters.

Good prep for next week and beyond

Unsure about the strategy Carlton's number 43 used against Oliver, at the centre bounces.

Oliver had to spend his time retaliating to the hits to his torso. 

He appeared to not be focused on the ball and distracted  from the game. If he turned his back to him the oppo would hit his back.

Oliver used a good strategy to get his opponent away from the contest, so he could run towards the ruck, under less pressure. 

Just don't get how that 43 got away with it, I think it was within the rules but should it be?

The taggers cannot just play the man and  cause one of the best in the game have to wear themselves out fighting and not playing.

Just watched the last two minutes again. Hunt, Melksham and Kozzie!!!!

But can’t understand why, at the last ruck contest with 11 seconds to go, Gawn didn’t bring the ball to his feet to force another stoppage. Instead it goes out the front to a Carlton player, risking a forward thrust, mark, goal and loss.

I thought the same. Surprised it wasn't mentioned before.

Twas a moment of madness, and was eerily (frighteningly) reminiscent of the match we lost against the Saints at Doglands in 2015. Montagna kicking the winning goal after a similar tap out by Max. (Howe had put the Demons ahead with 41 seconds left.)

Learnings!! Max should have either grabbed the ball, or tapped it at his feet to create a secondary ballup. It would have been game over. Still, no harm done .. except to my nerves !!

I've been reading the Blues bigfooty page ... and suprisingly, the comments are incredibly reasonable. 

Kozzy showed why he can never be dropped. He has the x factor, and can win games off his own boot, even when having a quiet one.
