Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

For all of the posters with comments like

“We won tonight but aren’t going deep”

”We stole that but can’t win it”.

Feel free to not watch next Friday night or for the finals.

Loving the club and having an opinion on their form/list/gameplan are not mutually exclusive.

Ben Brown's 2nd half was quite good after a very average 1st half

Triple-teamed for most of the match as the predominately lone forward target he kept at it and never gave up

Don't judge him on his first half only.  Right at the death he put his body on the line in the front of a pack and got a hand in to marking contest which led to Kossie getting the crumb ... apart from that, he had worked his way into the game and played his part.

And right now, the only alternative to Brown is Weideman.  Or someone like Smith or Tomlinson.  That is not going to happen

Brown in fact played a game tonight very similar to the game that T-Mac often plays (and T-Mac gets criticised for playing that sort of game until it's realised that value that is being underestimated)

It's a big ask playing as the lone KPF in today's footy.  Crowded forward lines, triple teamed, and battered about, often the best that can be expected is to compete and bring the ball to ground for the crumbers

And that's how we are set up to play.  We bomb to the left forward pocket or thereabouts (until the last few minutes tonight when we decided to take some risks in the corridor)

Brown won't be playing anywhere apart from the seniors ... he's a vital cog and Goodwin is probably reasonably happy with his overall output

Agree.  But why if 3 opponents are taking on Brown can't we get more out of our crumbers.

(It's a seperate and more complicated question as to why we don't kick to our 2 free players whose opponents are heading to Brown.)

Side note. Where the hell was Max tapping that ball at the final ball up!

It's not the first time he has done that. I can't recall when he last did it in a close game, but the memory was clear enough in my mind so that I said as the ball was bounced  "I hope he remembers to just put the ball at his feet so that everyone can jump on it".   I hate to criticise him, but that is a major brainfade. A quick kick forward and a mark and we lose especially with 6 6 6.

Having an opinion is fine. Coming on here to bag the team within minutes of one of our most exhilarating wins of the season is just sad.

Random thoughts,   great pressure game all night, Carlton deserve to be rated on that game,  As good as against Geelong last year, but that was on the teev, last night we had a crowd,   Our lot never gave up.   It should give us a Hell of a lot of self belief (and learnings).

Hunt played really well when he took the play on, looked calm and direct.

Melky   playing better each week,  both want a finals campaign I reckon, and know it might be their last chance.  Missed last year want it this year.

Spargo, Viney looked for him in the last but the bullet pass went too low, Spargo changed his run and took the player, and a ball up resulted, but prior to the low pass he was heading into space   hand aloft and it didn't happen    are never mind I couldn't do it in the ammos so what do I know.    But his tackles stay tackled.

We can only beat who is on the field on any one game, and we are building well over the last few weeks, Geelong have beaten no one of ability (apart from us)   Collingwood, no one (apart from us)  and with unbelievable forward kicking.

How many top 4 versus top 4   have we played in,   I think we play them all and a couple twice.

This year the race for the flag is very even, but we have every chance to go B2B.   no standout leaders in my view.

Changes,

I really think Bowey should be in, with Hunt going to the wing, this probably puts Jordan into Medi sub again.

Also think we badly need Harmes  for who ever you might swap him for.

And J Smith as an alternative tall either end,   but he is a bit like Frosty used to be.

Anyway it ended a really good night but it was very very cold at ground level

I do enjoy reading this stuff after we win, puts a smile on my face for the rest of the day.

Question does this mean my lucky under pants worked again ?    got premiers 2021 stitched into them.

I was too exhausted after that to comment last night.  I received an email saying no oppo supporters would be allowed in reserved seats, yet I was surrounded by Carlton FLOGS.  The one behind me was a limited intellect example of the worst sort of football fan.  WOOF every time Saad kicked the ball, “he’s going to Freo’ any time Dogga touched it.  Aggressive, and foul mouthed, he was scaring a group of kids who kept looking around nervously at him.  He goaded the crowd all night, and when confronted as to why he was sitting in Trident reserved seating said “I paid my money to get in”.  Sank low in his chair when the siren sounded, though…

Don’t mind oppo supporters who cheer their teams, HATE oppo supporters who need to get a rise from the crowd to validate their existence.

What a great game of footy!  Carlton are very competitive and play a finals brand.  If they don't make it this year, they'll be very dangerous next year.  Cripps is a champion.  Gawn was again outstanding.  His willingness to be in the right position behind the play contributed to his 8 score involvements.  Melksham's last goal was a direct result of Gawn's positioning (and a very good mark).  Brayshaw was a thorn in their side all night.  Most of our players were in and out of the game but as a unit they stood up when needed.  I'd be finding a spot for Harmes against Brisbane.  Hunt certainly keeps his spot based on last night.

I was saying to my family last night at the game that you can honestly tell melks and hunt haven’t got a medal. They are playing with everything they have. Urgency and hunger. Everything all the other players had last year. We need more of that to help lift the others. I must say when milkshake came in I’m thinking Jesus this sums up our year but I’m happy to admit he is proving me wrong. Add chandler into our forward line and he will bring exactly that same hunger with forward pressure kozzy and spargo gave us last year.
hopefully fires them up for a big last home and away game!!

You seem a bit thin skinned. There is nothing wrong with banter or goading the opposition supporters, regardless of where they're sitting. As long as there wasn't incessant swearing, or aggressive behaviour directed at individuals, that sounds like a normal night at the football.

Goody singled them out for praise in his presser. That's why I think we still need to make changes to the line-up.

Enormously important win. Not just for Top 4 calculations but the spirit of the side.

Carlton were on. Their pressure when the ball went to ground was better than ours. I’ve never regarded Hunt as a safe player but his coolness under pressure was the single greatest reason we were able to snatch it. Used his run to cut through and deliver repeat forward entries. I don’t think we have another player who offers what he does. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come. Both he and Melksham have played themselves into our Finals Best 22 and I’m really happy for them.

I know people are saying we can’t do it this year… and I’ve had the same feeling at times. But when I look at the Top 6… Freo, Brisbane, Sydney have all been similarly erratic. Geelong and Collingwood are by far the most consistent sides heading into finals but have they made their run a bit too early? We’re still a decent chance.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
