Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POSTMATCH: Rd 22 vs Carlton

I think May won a single contest for the night. We look vulnerable in the air and on the ground defensively.

I wonder if the way we're asking the likes of Max and BB to play is finally taking its toll on their bodies. To sit under balls in big contests 5-10 times a quarter.

Our mids gambled too often and were done out the back.

Our forwards and mids didn't put enough pressure on to rush Carlton and bring interceptors into play. The first half was better, but then we weren't clean when we went forward.

We got out of jail which is wonderful, but we look cooked to me.

We can still win the thing but it will require changes because the current formula isn’t good enough.

Unfortunately not sure we're going to be changing much, if any, the formula we've had all year, especially with 1 game left before finals.

I mean one example was Carlton were missing half of their midfield brigade and yet we still lose the general and centre clearance.  We should have smashed them in this area of the game.

On reflection, we got out of jail, but lets not kid ourselves there is still some pressing concerns moving forward with our overall structure and system.

Great call about Carlton missing their midfield.

We should have the best contested midfield and ruck combination and yet we often get beaten in that area.

Just on May, and a bit off topic, but how good is McKay? His overhead work is elite and work rate off the ball as well as his defensive pressure for such a big guy.

What we'd kill for a key forward like Harry McKay..

Kudos to them. They battled really well and certainly had the upper hand especially in the 2nd half.

They had a pretty banged up Pittonet and Silvagni as their rucks who competed well.

It felt to me that we had so much more of the ball last night and it should never have been as close as it was. If Carlton play finals it'll be because the Dogs lose against Hawthorn next week. Gus was really good again and Melky is having an indian summer.

We probably need to bring the same four quarter intensity that got us the W against Brisbane and Fremantle recently in all of our remaining four games but I just don't know if we're capable of that consistency right now.

I can't even deal with this. 😂

Melks played the best game I've seen him play in the red and blue. A fantastic performance.

Yea sad to say I've been his biggest critic.

He was in his 2019 form and won that fame with the help of Gus and Oliver.

Carlton must have a team made of Mids if they have all of these blokes out injured and to return to their team. Or are some on here saying with a full compliment they have players around the ball who are so much better than ours. I guess you can only have so many in their case playing at the same time.

While that win wasn't as good as the Kardinia Park last round game last year, it was just as satisfying.

Those angry blues fans booing everything probably went home and booed themselves to sleep.

We can win next week if our forward line works better.

Still unsure about the Weid...bbb conundrum.

When Fritsch was having his shot on goal at the end of the 2nd qtr I think, did anyone see who started the scuffle? It was like Carlton were wanting a free for, taking away Fritsch’s shot.

Then when Melksham marked with two minutes to go he put his arm up to the Carlton defender to mark his spot then the Carlton player dropped to the ground like he’d been cleaned up by Cripps.

Silvagni with 90 seconds left takes two steps, is tackled by Melksham and drops the ball cold. Play on…..Flashbacks to when Elliot scores himself 2 frees last week.

Need to be recognised that the Dees are playing team every week who are treating it as a grand final. The intensity of both Blues and Pies was immense. Remain to be seen but appear to be great preparation. The boys just need to mix it up a bit we played our best when we had no choice but to throw caution to the wind. Season are defined by wins like that.

I thought our midfield would crush theirs but it was definitely not the case.

They had more clearances and I'm pretty sure more centre ones.

Trac didn't seem to spend much time in the middle.

Oliver was sublime. Viney started well but faded then came back late into some form.

As hard and frustrating that game was to watch, I really believe Carlton are a good side and they certainly bought the right attitude and applied great pressure all night.

Yea we fumbled too much and we're a little too fancy at times but the blues through everything at us including Said's ribs.

That win was reminiscent of last year's team.

We never gave up.

Does Jumping ahead a couple of minutes on the delayed stream from the Curnow Mark to the Melksham mark count? I couldn't watch Curnow go back and kick it, and just wanted to see if it was over or not. Had to rewind and watch the lead up to the Melksham mark after that.

I guess it's the equivalent of walking up the race, down the stairs and hearing an Almighty cheer as you're heading towards the turnstiles, but then rushing to standing room to watch the ending.

Feel free to not watch next Friday night or for the finals.

Silly comment. Based on our form over the past 11 weeks, we've won 5 and lost 6. Is that the form line you want from a team contending for a flag?

Every week we hear Goody say that we need to get better with our connection up front. The only thing we've changed, whether it be game style of personnel, is bringing Melksham in and playing him as a defensive full forward. That's helped, but will still have massive issues with our forward synergy.

In all seriousness though, why are we losing clearances against a team missing 3 of their inside mids with the likes of Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney and Bradshaw, it's embarrassing. This should not be an area in need of improvement, we have enough of those.

Again the backline being exposed very often once ball hits the deck and easy goals out the back. That Silvagni goal should never be so easy, 4 defenders ball watching.

Just got back. What a game! Melk is a lock for the finals. Gawn was immense.  Petty is already a superstar. I  haven't witnessed the scenes of joy around me, after Kozzie kicked the goal, since beating Geelong in the EF in 2018.

Try Maxie’s goal after the siren to put us top of the list at Geelong last year in the final round. That was pretty wild - and arguably most influential. Still l’ll take the great win. Go Dees - we are re-emerging at the right time…..

Got up to leave after the Carlton goal

Luckily walked around inside of the ground towards Richmond station and rejoined standing room to watch the goals

I booked tixs to go but got sick. Gave them to a mate and relatives who left with 2 mins to go.

I also started to post...well there goes the season but before I hit submit reply.... enter milk.

Who would have thought he had so much shake left.

After that I asked my wife to google cpr.

When the ball came into our fwd line at the 25 second mark my mfcss was just hoping for a point.

Kozzie just can't kick those.

Please pay him extra and get him to show Max, Trac, Oliver and dogga how to kick for goal.

Just on your last point, the ball was knocked from Silvagni by the Melksham tackle without prior opportunity. It's play on every time. That's the rules. The Elliot free kicks were different. The Melbourne players slightly hesitated.

With your first 2 points, it's utterly stupid for any player to get involved in a scuffle when we are having a shot for goal. There's nothing to gain and everything to lose. It's false bravado. There was nothing in the Melksham one, and the Carlton player should cop a fine for play acting.

Thought we looked totally out of sorts in and around the contests

We won the hitouts well, no surprise. We lost clearances, and even many of our clearances were scrappy, while Carlton seemed much cleaner

Something has changed. One obvious thing is Brayshaw in there... ? Has that messed up the rhythm and ball movement?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
