Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I had to look twice. It looked like Mitch Hannan for a sec

I have always thought that, too. Many times - watching the Dogs - I'd swear that it was Mitch doing those classy things with much greater frequency than in his time at the Dees. As my failing eyesight deceived me, I'd stare at Lachie for a few seconds longer just to realise that it was not Mitch but certainly, there was a considerable resemblance. I was happy with Mitch at the Dees; but this increase in skills (by Lachie) was the true indicator - onfield, things really happened as Lachie plied his trade - that was the true discriminator as to real identity. When we secured Hunter, I happily felt that our talent base had just taken a more consistent elevation, more quickly applied, and with greater accuracy and effect. I hope that he brings that quality 'lift' to the Dees.

Glad he isn't Mitch. I thank god Mitch Hannan was playing for the doggies in the grand final. With the doggies 19 points up and stifling all our moves late in the third quarter, Hannnan got a dubious free 55m out. with the elastic band about to break Macrae runs past (chased by a hapless Gawny) to take the handpass and what would be a sure shot on goal or hitting someone up. I thought we are in serious trouble here. The handpass is terrible, lands at his feet and ends up in a stoppage. We were about to go 25 points down with even less time to go. What might have been.

And then there was this:

Players will always have plenty of moments to remember and those they'd rather not.

I believe Hunter also had a moment to forget in the GF, taking a bounce on the wing and having the ball bounce out of bounds. I think the game was done and dusted by then - last quarter?

Watching that from front row, level 3 of the MCC was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.

If only I could have witnessed Chris Scott struggling to get that sip of water down his throat immediately after, first hand as well…

That too was my best live footy moment, sitting there with dad right behind Billy Brownless (who wasn’t particularly happy all game) in the ‘western wings’ a mile from the action that tracked east, it was fantastic - the crowd was deafening!!!

I just hope he recognises the opportunity that he’s been given and works to not only achieve, but excel in the role that he’s been offered. He comes with talent, but needs to earn his spot and push a little harder at the chance than he indicated in his first presser (a little too confident and no immediate eye contact with the interviewer).

Give him number 6 so his locker can be between Petracca and Viney.

Yes, elevated conversation would be unavoidable and a great way for him to 'get the message' about what is going to be done to the opposition when they get out onto the ground!

He was a miserable [censored] that night Billy, was in the vicinity of a fellow Demon asking him what the score was and who won on the night. 😂

Did not like it one bit had his goons shew him away. Absolute sook.

I really do feel this up-close-and-personal proximity just before the game is important, rubbing shoulders with -  and listening to - two great, champion footballers who never say die. It may not take effect, but I'm sure that secondary influences with rub off in due course.

I realise talking about Hannan in a Hunter thread is getting off topic but I spoke to him in the preseason after this and told him no matter what happens to him for the rest of his career we'll all never forget this moment. He was thrilled. I asked him what he was thinking as he was getting closer to goal. He said if you have a look at it you can see me glance across looking for a better option. I really didn't want to kick it myself. He said the kick didn't go well off his boot and he was crapping himself it was going to miss. So his initial emotion was relief.

Back on topic, I reckon by the end of next season we will be looking back on this trade and putting it up there with the Langdon trade as a quiet trade that turns into a massive bonus.

Not sure if you gave any real Psycho quals DN and can judge degrees of confidence or amount of eye contact.

Many players change Clubs and Lachie is no different. We have provided the opportunity to better our list and I have faith in the culture and coaching at the Club will enable Lachie to regain his best form and play a very positive role in our 2023 quest to regain our No 1 spot.

Brodie and Schachey also will be great for us.

Please report back in mid June with your patients!!

For what’s it’s worth - The Dogs knocked us out of the finals in 2020 with a final round win over Freo in Cairns by 5 goals.

Hunter was so far clear best on ground that it wasn’t funny with 35 touches (in a shortened game), 1 goal and the 3 Brownlow votes. This suggests that he can step up in the big games that count.

Looking forward to seeing what he can a) bring to the table and b) how it affects our recent wing options in JJ, Brayshaw and Spargo (who has no business being a winger).

Spargo doesnt play wing he plays defensive forward and adds nothing to our scoring power

Except Spargo has been a pretty good forward score assist over the last two years and is our best kick inside 50...

Some people are never pleased

Absolutely.  I don't understand the gripe against Spargo. He is quick in the first 5 metres, has great vision and decision-making. Plays his role defensively harassing and tackling.

He was struggling for form in 2019 and 2020, but since then has been very good!

The Dogs also torched us in 2nd half of 2020 and I vaguely recall Hunter having a very good day.

He certainly knows how to get the ball and use it and will be an upgrade on our 2nd winger choices - assuming Brayshaw not playing on the wing!

In addition to Grundy feels like we’ve really increased our centreline on baller firepower -

Rucks Gawn & Grundy

Mids Oliver, Trac, Viney, Brayshaw supported by Sparrow, Harmes, (backups Jordan & Pickett)

Wings Langdon & Hunter (backups Brayshaw & JJ)

Just an awesome midfield / wing combination!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
