Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This kid is still learning . Let us celebrate that he is actually playing at the level he is.

Our hassle is that TMac (who some people bagged when he is there) is a pretty important cog in our fwd line in that :

  • He is quick
  • He runs in straight lines with momentum
  • Is a good Pack Mark
  • and importantly is an accurate kick for goal

Applicants should apply !!!

Is there anyone on the list who can supply this.?  Somebody, but somebody must move & present inside the 45 degree angle, then our goal kicking will improve. Deep fwd pocket shots do not have a high success rate.

Yeh, but we miss him (or a similar player !!)

The forward line laid 8 tackles from 65 inside 50s (compared to their 18 from 41).

Too many inside 50s rebounded.

The forward line has problems, but perhaps not the ones being discussed here.

But yes, as a general concept I agree with you that things are wrong if we're conceding 96 points (albeit this week that was contributed to in part by their good accuracy of 15.6).

This is exactly the problem. By locking it in there, it sets up up the defence upfield, thats our gameplan. Forwards need a rocket.

Oh and I never want to see Ben Brown in the last line of defence ever again.

Really frustrated that Weideman didn’t lift last week. He was playing for a spot in our finals 22 and if that’s not enough motivation, I’m not sure what else would do it. But boy we really need another tall up forward. I think we need to blood JVR or give Weideman one last chance, replacing Melksham.

Freo game might have been the final hoorah (bar injury to BB) for the Weid this season.

The game for blooding JVR was against Port and then the following match against Freo.  He may not have been ready to hold down a spot but we'll never know now.  Opportunity lost.  Dissapointing we keep going back to the same inconsistent well to players that aren't quite up to it so often.

Chandler should have also been given a chance in the Port game off the bench.

100% ... solid footballer behind the ball but allows the opp to get back and set up far too often.  Usually always stops and props.  Old school footy.

One of the keys to our success last season was Gus playing wing/HF.  Dont mind him in the middle but would let Harmes and Gus work that through between them.

Would also bring Dunstan in for a look in these last few matches for Sparrow.

Our lack of speed on transistion off HB is playing right into the opp's hands and killing our chances of converting up forward.

We aint winning a PF let alone a GF with Saturday's line up.

Without looking at stats, it felt like our repeat I50 stoppages count wasn't too bad. The question is, how can we lock the ball in the 50 for longer without oppositions working it out of there too easily? Is it a lack of forward pressure? Lack of height? If we kicked a bit straighter are we even talking about these problems? I dunno, it's Mon morning and I don't feel well.

Agree...too early for JVR.  I cant believe im saying this but Weid in but let him play at 2nd tall in fwd line - it wont happen - Melk will stay

Out -  Sparrow, Hunt, Melksham

In - Harmes, Bowey, Weid

Hunt can play some real handy games but gee there's some games where all you see him do is run around in circles. I know it's not the most popular idea but maybe a stint up forward just to change things up? Ran an opponent ragged and create some space up there for the other forward to work in? Just spitballing.

Cripps will not get off. Will be 2 weeks minimum - there is plenty of precedent here, he left the ground and made head high contact.

Be weary of the wounded animal in Carlton. They are a little underseige atm with injures and form.

I'd look at Hunt to neutralize Saad off HB to limit their ball movement. May to McKay and Petty to Curnow. I'd expect Silvangi to play a defensive job on Lever, but otherwise those matchups are pretty even-steven.

Oliver will probably go head-to-head with Kennedy and get Harmes to do a run-with on Walsh.

Hope you're right ... he certainly shouldn't.

But not so sure about that.

My 2 cents..

Hibbo, Hunt, May, Lever, et al.. were let down again by our inability to defend the ball coming out of our F50 because of out putrid and dumb entries. So they all deserve less critical analysis than others..

It does my head in that we are still talking about f50 entries.. the coaches and players are culpable for this.. they are not learning and its repeat behaviour that makes me think they dont put as much capital on it as we do as fans. Its disgraceful that this mechanics of our game has not been rectified or that it keeps creeping back.. lazy, dumb stubborn? not sure, maybe all 3.

Anyway, changes.

Did anyone else see the stat on the screen the other night that in 2022, we are 17th for pressure? Whether it meant pressure acts, around the ball or in the forward line I'm not sure. But is damn right lazy and we wont win a thing unless that improves, especially in the F50.

Selection will be very interesting this week.  Will we stick with the same structure - one tall forward plus Melky as a defensive mid size, Angus in the middle rather than back; and if we do, will we stick with the same personnel to execute it?

I think we've been exposed by 3rd talls forwards against the Dogs' JUH 5.0 and the Pies' Ash Johnson 4.0.  We've held their key forwards well but the 3rd tall has gotten away and kicked very accurately.  This is somehow related to Jake Lever's role.

We're lacking composure when the ball hits the ground inside forward 50 and Jamie Elliott took full advantage.  We did defend the small playmakers well - Elliott's goals were not the result of making the play and Ginnivan was not a factor.  The balance is not quite right though.

We do need to change things up from last year and we now have a strategy to handball through traffic, if we want to play that way then inevitably, because of his role, ANB is going to get involved in a lot of chains.  He's the anti-Clarrie in that sense, he will always be tackled without getting a clean disposal.  That does usually results in a stoppage which is not a disaster, but I'm sure that's not the intent.  In high pressure games Alex is an asset with his pressure and a liability with the ball - we need to address this.

I think Goodwin is generally conservative, but he was definitely unhappy on Friday night.

Does my head the amount of times we're streaming towards goal, I'm thinking we're bound to score here and the next minute the ball is coming back the other way.

We need to improve, but I'm sick of seeing this stat and not the full list of 18 clubs ranked by pressure. it's just a cherry picked champion data headline for fox footy from 1-2 months ago at this point that get bandied about by all talking heads. I want to CD to show us the context of it v our rivals: Where do Geel, Syd, Coll, Freo, Bris all rank in pressure?

How does our pressure rank in the past two weeks? Month? etc

ANB stays in?  One good goal in the last. New name is “Captain fumbles “ and he often turns back into trouble. He definitely should be on the block as should Sparrow.  Spargo earned a reprieve by his Freo outing.

In:  JVR, Harmes, Chandler

Spargo does not get the ball enough orhit the scoreboard enough. Out he goes for Chandler. Melksham is not the now nor the future, he goes out for Smith. Any one of Jordan, ANB , or Rivers or Hibbo for Harmes

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
