Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think he knew exactly what he was saying. The club would sanction every media contact the players had, so they would have known about this interview. And possibly what he was about to say. Mind games. Just watch Collingwood lose their focus a little tomorrow.

Ok but still don’t like it.

WHY LINGERS ? YOUR SUPPOSED TO BE POSITVE. I hate losing to Collingwood and he hasn't made it any easier on us. Drop him bring in Harmes. I may not survive another Collingwood win.

I disagree to a point, yes the club approves the interviews and they are media trained ie Told how to play the straight bat etc but the club wouldn’t tell him what he can and can’t say cos they wouldn’t know the questions.
I reckon Goodwin who preaches respect wouldn’t have liked this that much, prob not overly worried but why give ammo if you just don’t need too.

Don’t judge me, but I follow the /AFL sub on Reddit pretty regularly.

I’ve found it’s a great way to gauge the general mood of other clubs, and it seems to be a lot less Boofhead-oriented than Big Footy and the like.

Ed’s story is blowing up right now over there, and it’s interesting to note that a lot of people - including many Collingwood supporters - are saying how much they love the banter.

I can understand why anyone being interviewed on SEN might say something like this and it’s actually quite a smart way of making it worth in this case Ed’s time. I mean there’s at best about ten people actually listening to SEN, so say something that’s a bit different maybe a tad controversial and hope one of those ten send it out into social media landscape so your interview is actually listened too. Ed nailed it.

If Ed and Melbourne bring their A game tonight it won’t matter the slightest how many ponies the Pies have we win. Don’t bring our A game and sadly a slick and skilful Pies outfit will beat us again but what Ed said will have nothing to do with it.

For those of us who aren't twits please explain.

I'm a proud twit, but all duck and no dinner is an old school saying. My grandpa used to say it.

Back then duck was an exotic meal and saved for the rich folk (save the hunters of course) and probably for special occasions too. And duck doesn’t have a huge amount of meat on it

He used to say it when talking about someone he thought lacked substance. All show, no real depth.

But I think it means more something like the duck is all well and good, looks great and is tasty. But won't sustain you - not like a proper dinner.

In the context langers used it, he is is suggesting their run and and gun style looks great. And works when it works. But by itself it is not enough.

He talked about our defensive strength, and from that I take he is implying our game is more dinner than duck. Defence first football us sustainable.

I love it, as much as anything that langers chose to use the expression.

Less enamoured by the one trick pony jibe, which is closer to a direct criticism, and I'm not a fan of bagging opponents.

But either way, his comments won't have any bearing on the result.

So, all good theatre.

Would of preferred Ed Langdon to be a bit more humble. Let our actions do the talking.

Anyway, it will definitely be a very tough and exciting game tomorrow night.

I genuinely despise Collingwood and their feral supporters.

I encourage as many Melbourne supporters as possible to show up!

GO DEMONS!!!

He was very humble, he actually said it was a great strength of theirs

Saying anything to fire up the opposition is a dumb move!
We need to win as many of these last 3 games as easily as possible to assure top 2, minimize injuries/niggles/exhaustion, and improve our finals campaign.

We need our oppositions to be as asleep as possible, not fired up thanks Lingers.

Collingwood do what Clarko did to us last year in the draw - push up each line to pressure the Melbourne ball carriers. And since we are prone to fumble and miss targets under pressure, I hope we are across our tactics and can deal with the heat, as well as maintain intensity for the whole game. We couldn't on the QB. But at least May is playing this time.

Yep exactly so no easy avenues to goal streaming forward of the stoppage/centre clearance.

You never give a sucker an even break.  Team needs to walk the talk now which can be looked at as a positive.  Inadvertantly, Langdon has in some ways, motivated his teammates

Pies will see the comments as coming from further afield than Langdon.  Imagine if it was one their better players making pointed comments about how we play?

Collingwood attack with pace using the corridor and against us they haven't turned the ball over (that's in the last 2 encounters at least)

So if we lose, we're never going to hear the end of it!

What's wrong with a Premiership Team member saying something/ anything about any other team. Why aren't the Media Maggots treating them after ten wins the way they treated us after doing the same earlier. Well are they?

Heaving listen to Ed in other interviews, he’s just overstepped the mark here and brought a little too much into the interview (has done it before). I don’t think there’s any tactics exposed here. Both clubs know exactly how each other play, and as Goody often says, whoever can play their game for longer will come up on top.

Langdon really f'd up If you ask me.

Knowing filth supports they're going to relish in this opportunity to hate on our boys by booing the hell out of May and now unfortunately Langers. Since they'll probably be in greater numbers this will drown us out.

I hope this media overreaction has angered us to finally hand the filth the loss they deserve, otherwise we look like clowns. We are actually such a good team and it's time we show the opposition and competition our true premiership credentials. No more time for stuffing around, this is it. [censored] smash them!!!!!!

I remember Tony Shaw (I think) over a beer with Iron Mike Sheehan did something similar to what Lingers did in 1988 or 1989.

Not realising he was on the record, Shawry came straight out and told Mick that he thought we were soft and that Collingwood had nothing to fear from us. There were probably a lot of shif private school jokes in there too.

With a coach in Swooper Northey who thrived on that stuff, he plastered those headlines all over our rooms. Our boys had smoke coming out of their ears when we went to play them in the finals (and we subsequently knocked them off both times we played them).

Let's just hope this type of stuff doesn't have a similar effect on Collingwood.

Wow, I really struggle to understand why people want us to be boring and generic. Let's just roll out another vanilla cliche about taking one game at a time. Langdon did nothing more than put a little bit of chilli sauce on an otherwise pretty much generic interview out of the MelbournFC marketing handbook.

Personally, I loved it. Let's put a bit more personality in this playing group's public persona. We don't need to try and hide in plain sight anymore, we are the reigning premiers. We are allowed to have a few opinions and yes, we need to back them up with actions. Let's just go ahead and do that! If Collingwood getting a bit agro intimidates us we are hardly going to be flag contenders. We are ready for finals football and all that means, bring the heat, we welcome it!

Do we really want to try and fly under the radar for fear that we might rile up our opponent? And just to be clear, there was nothing arrogant or offensive in what Langers said, there was plenty of respect for what they can do, just a recognition that they have limits and we are ready to exploit them.

I’m also surprised by the reaction of a substantial number of people on here. Using words like “stupid” and “dumb” and “silly” among other derogatory terms is unnecessary.
I personally find Ed’s candour refreshing. Besides, his comments weren’t overly inflammatory.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
