Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Eddie Betts opens up on the weird camp

What a [censored] show of a camp. Sad thing is I think alot of clubs may have done or considered similar sorts of initiatives over the journey all in the name of getting a competitive edge. No doubt the Crows camp seems to be worse than others in this space though. I'm just glad the contributors on this site are largely mature enough to be disgusted and aren't potting Betts for being honest about his experience.

The difference in this one is the indigenous aspect. I doubt it would be getting any publicity otherwise.

Think u are the only poster that's mentioned Eddie has a book to sell & him or the publishers might be milking things.

The Crows camp was a [censored] show & has already been well documented.

Seems any opportunity to mention Melbourne tanking she grabs with both hands (and both feet). Worse yet, even if it’s not an opportunity, she’ll somehow turn it into one.

Correct.

Everyone did it, but she only goes after us and thereby says by inference, we were the only ones.

The compere of the show, Eddie, even admitted his club had tanked and that everyone had done it.  I heard him say it some years ago on a show.

Libba, a Blues assistant coach at the time, dobbed in the Blues for tanking on TV.  It was allegedly investigated by the AFL, then suddenly Libba sheepishly modified his story, obviously after being PERSUADED to.

Terry Wallace also admitted that he did it at Caro's club the Tigers, which she will never , ever mention.

I think there were a couple of others who admitted it was a practice in the game due, to the Priority Picks being available.

I would give Caro more credit if she at least told the truth or was not selective with it and said Melbourne were the only team dealt with by the AFL for Tanking, but that it was in fact widely practiced in the competition.

The media at the time would joke that Boards should be sacked if they didn't do it and take advantage of the PP's.

We don’t even know who these Cowboys are. The Players were told to remain silent. Just shows how Pathetic the AFLPA really are.
These Bullsh companies need to be fully exposed and dealt with accordingly.

Just as an aside...

Has anyone actually ever spotted his Crankiness in a thread on here that doesn't involve an indigenous player, a woman or some type of culture war beat up? I struggle to remember him even posting once in a thread solely and wholly related to football.

I'll happily admit that I do post about threads discussing racism, gender equality, homophobia and more and as I am involved in human rights advocacy IRL

There are others in these threads whose opinions on racial, gender and a wide range of matters I find genuinely unsettling or incorrect. But I will also admit that they also post in other threads expressing their opinion on the actual game. I'd never doubt their sincerity about signing up to this board.

He just seems to bob up in threads involving culture war threads to start flame wars with people trying to have a serious conversation about these matters.

I seriously wonder if he even barracks for Melbourne. In other words, I firmly believe that he is a troll infiltrator.

I might be totally wrong on this but Betts' comments about the individual culture and heritage targeting extended to more backgrounds than just indigenous. At one point he even says "there was all sorts of weird stuff that was disrespectful to many cultures"

The issue I have is that all he posts about are said prehistoric ideas. There are plenty of others on here that have what I'd consider prehistoric ideas, but at least they talk about the matches and the club every once in a while.

If he turned up in a postgame thread, a player trade thread or discussions about strategy or club politics to give us his 10 cents, this wouldn't smell as funny.

When the issue first arose there was some talk that some non indigenous Adelaide players also took offence but that line was never fleshed out in the media. Perhaps players were reluctant to speak up.

Betts made it clear on 360 last night, that this was not just an indigenous issue. Many white boys were very distressed as well

Vlad mocked him publicly and Liberatore saw the writing on the wall. It said: "farewell, post-playing career in the AFL".

Vlad had already whitewashed the investigations into our tanking. The last thing he wanted was an investigation into any club's tanking. Then he made the mistake of leaving the country and his sidekick Anderson heard Brock McLean spill his guts and it was game on. Ironically, for displaying this streak of integrity, Anderson was soon afterwards forced out of the AFL world.

The AFL won't do anything about the Adelaide camp except whitewash it, again. Their anger and frustration will not be that players were exposed to unsavoury practices, but that people are expecting the AFL to do something about it. They only stick their heads above the parapet when there are congratulations to go around.

Finally ... Caro is not a reporter. She is a gossip columnist. It just happens that her special subject is not Hollywood, Sydney high society, or reality TV stars. It's AFL football.

Suddenly Goody having a beer and punt with the players doesn't seem so bad hey?  lol  what a beat up that was.

I have never heard of anything so cruel and mentally wrecking than this camp. Young men's deepest, darkest secrets being used against them. And then the crows want their players to go out and play for the club and give everything?  there is zero trust now.  How could anyone think this would help?

On the flip side, I am fairly certain that the ‘leaders’ at the crows dismissed the complaints from Eddie as those of a specific minority and not anything ‘to worry about.’

’The rest’ of the group hasn’t complained.

Eddie and the boys are ‘just being sensitive.’

Eddie should have towed the line, he’s not a leader - let’s remove him from the LG.

One of the bigger carpet sweeper underers in recent memory.

As mentioned I do like Caro the journalist but her tanking agenda where we are concerned is something I'm never going to be able to get behind and have to respectfully disagree with. This would be the same view whether it was us or anyone.

AFLPA may finally get what’s been coming to them for far too long. They too often stay in bed with the AFL on issues, Instead of representing the interests of the actual players.

I’d love for some players to unionise away from the AFLPA. It’s worthless in its current configuration.

I remember this because he was so flippant at the time saying that after meetings the coaches etc. would shake hands and say, “TANKS for that” and the like. He thought it was funny until as you said he was persuaded to change his tune.

I can live with Caro repeatedly bringing it up, as long as she was doing it honestly. She could say something like, "in a widely practiced tactic in the AFL, known as tanking, which even my TIgers admitted to doing, the MFC was the only club punished by the AFL, for doing it".

At least that would be truthful.

I don't think she even needs to go that far.

Just 'the AFL were blind to clubs tanking for years. This started somewhere around 2005 and finally ended in 2013.'

No fuss. No muss.

And even then we were found not guilty of tanking but guilty of acting in bad spirit of the game. She should probably get those facts right.

Got to say DD, I have always thought these camps challenging masculinity and targeting physical and mental capacity/resilience, together with the so called team bonding aspect, complete and utter nonsense. I have been on a few and I can’t say that they benefited me in any way, shape or form. For many it’s no big deal and no damage is done but for others it can be very damaging. Part of the problem is that the people running these things are often not qualified or do not have sufficient expertise or experience to be dealing with the so called psychological issues that can come from confronting your fears and weaknesses. For god sake these are professional footballers with the same weaknesses and frailties that we all have.  They are paid to play football and not be the subject of these “experiments” run by trainers who are here one day and gone the next.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
