Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So you think we will never play a debutante against the Pies ever? Hope we’re not as mentally soft as that.

Yeah, because I definitely said that.

A quick re-read is all it takes to succeed kids!

Absolutely No-way.  Neal-Bullen is a damm good player, tough as nails and needs to STAY.

ANB is so important to his team with his many pressure acts. Dropping him would border on lunacy. He always does what is required and is a wonderful leader in our forward zones. Couldn't agree more with David-Demon on this one.

As mentioned in another thread, Watts debuted in a pressure game in an underperforming team in a dysfunctional club as was seen as a saviour.  Only few mature on field leaders at the time.  JVR seems to thrive on contests and challenges.

The so-called senior players left Watts to be roughed up by the Pies.  I presume to show him that they were fabulous and even a number one pick like him was rubbish in comparison.  At long last another player came in possibly Junior.

I expect that if Watts had gone to a well-run club such as Hawthorn or Melbourne c. 2021, he would have had a successful career.

I'm up for JvR making his debut, it's not the same situation as Watts. We threw him to the wolves with him covered in sauce to be eaten up by the Pies, they try the same **** with JvR they will have Gawn, Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, May, Pickett, and more to deal with and you can guarantee whatever they dish up with be met tenfold at the next contest. I dare them to try it.

But I also agree with an earlier poster that we don't make him the only key forward, at least one of Brown or Wied must play beside him so he is at least getting the second defender.

If Jackson isn't 100% don't risk him, play Weid as a back up ruckman and make sure Jackson is cherry ripe for the finals.

A lot of the changes I suspect will depend on how certain injuries are tracking.

Weideman is a star in the VFL which makes JVR's form at that level irrelevant.

Likewise Raggedy Anne Browne for that matter

I can’t imagine Brown won’t come in.

I have to agree on ANB… he is a leader so the crunch through there has to be very rough if he is pushed out.

Handy to have Brayshaw to just run through the middle.

Fritsch said on a post game radio interview that Clayton just slotted into Freo’s drop zones and made a nuisance of himself with Aish close checking him. That tells me that our team ethos is still burning strong.

Really sets up a big 3 weeks - win two and we will have a home QF most likely.

WHAT IS THIS 2 WINS CRAP? WE ARE BACK BABY!!!

Keays on Saad last night was an interesting role. Shut down the Blue’s easy transition out of HB, and when they struggled Keays himself was able to score a few goals.

Wouldn’t mind seeing something similar with Harmes forward against N. Daicos. I don’t know if Spargo is up for it and Kozzi should be left free.

I'm quite confident JVR will be our number 1 or 2 tall forward in 2023, but also believe he is a preseason away from being ready to regularly do the 2 things the MFC demand from our tall forwards at AFL level.  The MFC require them to have the aerobic fitness to get up to the wings and even half back to contest before rushing forward post turnover, and that they have the talent/technique/strength/competiveness to not be outmarked.  I don't think JVR yet has the fitness required to do the first, and although he has talent and competiveness in spades, he still doen't have the strength or technique for the second.  At least twice yesterday at VFL level, he gave away free kicks in marking contests and he was also outmarked a few times.

I think for those reasons, although he isn't pleasing anyone outside the four walls of the club, Weids is ahead of him and also why I think Joel Smith played forward for Casey yesterday.  Ideally we have a fit and in form BBB and TMac for the finals, but I think Weids and J Smith are the coaches preference ahead of JVR while those two are absent.

JVR will be a star for us, but I think we're going to have to be patient to see it in the seniors.

Interesting that you note that Joel Smith played as a forward rather than the usual back. Were you at the game @Vipercrunch? Overall how was Joel's impact?

I only watched the stream on the AFL site.  As far as I could tell he played forward all day.  A little rusty early but got involved well as it went on.  Flew for a few marks but I don't think he dragged any down.  He would be behind Tomlinson and Turner for a gig in the seniors down back, so playing him forward to see how he goes makes sense.  No VFL this week and I think needs another game there before being considered, but maybe he finds enough form at in the scratch matches.  Just an option right now.

Why bring in JVR in this week when I can just re-watch QB 2009 again to see what happens?

We’re the 2021 premiership team, with a lot of bloody tough nuts

2009 we were a poor VFL team in comparison languishing on the bottom of the ladder without hope

I give JVR a crack but as a previous poster said as long as it’s a 2nd key position

BBB if fit.  Weid out.

But who makes way for Harmes??

Did Jackson pass or fail the concussion test??

Is harmes an automatic selection? I think brayshaw returning to the midfield keeps him out or in the sub role.

Jackson passed the concussion test

Harmes goes to sub unless they drop Sparrow or ANB which I doubt

You're right there is a difference, this is the biggest Melb v Collingwood game in at least 15 years and will make that 09 one look like Kindergarten for JVR compared to JW.

They are one of the best defences going round and people seemto think the jump from VFL to this will be a walk in the park.

I would consider giving him a crack as a 2nd tall with one issue though, who plays the 1st tall? Yes Brown could come back in but changing a forward line that succeeded the week before by bringing in two talls that weren't in it is a pretty bold move.

Don't hate it but Carlton is the preferred game to unleash JVR for me.

Harmes is more limited in that he can’t play a wifey different role like Gus can.

At this point, it doesn’t matter. Gus should stay in the midfield and Harmes can compete with Sparrow for the last rotation spot or maybe ANB’s role.

It’s tough but that is footy.

Edit - he can do what Melksham does defensively but Melksham has better forward craft. Big decisions…

I think Melksham should take Saad when we play Carlton and Moore next week.
ANB could play on Daicos. He has the endurance to go with him.

Don’t want to be too negative, Jaded. ANB has things to do to release Petracca. I would put Melksham on Daicos and as for Moore, can we just not kick it down his throat?

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
