Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dream job?

Reece Conca’s job

just run out to players and say well done and give them a hug.

Job? JOB???? Holy crap I’d do this for nothing! In fact, I’d pay to do this. Don’t know how long I’d last before getting fired, though. 😅

The good thing about having Gus in the middle, Harmes forward and Hunt back is they can all legitimately play in different positions. So if the backline needs Gus at any point, we can move Gus back, Harmes to the middle and Hunt can play forward.

Melk finding some form & Gus into the middle might make it difficult for Harmes to get back in.  Not saying he won't but yeh

This season he has gone from the Dees being guaranteed to go undefeated to missing the Top 4 to still a chance to missing the Top 4 again to keeping the faith. If we lose next week his head might explode.

He went further than that. He actually floated the possibility of us missing the 8 altogether.

He then dropped the idea when we won the following week.

To his credit he jumped on pretty early last year as I recall and never really jumped off. This year however he’s all over the shop.

Just this week he suggested Port could run the table in the last 4 weeks and play finals. Seemingly entirely based off a commendable performance against Geelong.

Still watching the replay

BT just talking about grippo for 2 minutes during play. He found it hilarious

CALL THE PLAY FFS!!

The call felt like a bottom 4 clash rather than a top 4 clash. So much random conversation and talk about Jackson during the most pivotal part of the game.

The whole game had a weird feeling about it I think because the Freo crowd was so subdued (when they weren't booing).

I wondered why JJ was puffing so hard after his goal about 3 minutes into the second quarter and just had another look on replay.

It started when Rivers left his man and intercepted the ball inside defensive 50.

He handballed to Petracca

He gave a short kick to Viney.  The raging bull charged downfield while doing a blind turn and breaking a tackle.

He handballed to Sparrow.

He handballed to Langdon.

He ran to about 60 and kicked it over the head of Fritsch and his opponent into the arms of JJ who kicked a goal from the top of the goal square.

When I looked back at the start of the passage of play, JJ was comfortably inside defensive 50 when Rivers intercepted in what looked the ideal position to fill up space on the other side of the ground.

He just sprinted for the other end and left his opponent for dead.  It was a massive run that was rewarded.  I presume many similar runs are made every game without getting near the ball but it did show how Melbourne are able to use Brayshaw at halfback or now in the midfield without losing much on the opposite wing to Langdon.

And it was a terrific end to a great passage of play that might have rather pleased the coaches.

I reckon Harmes, ANB, Melksham and Sparrow are currently in competition for 3 spots. Melksham coming in and making a great contribution has thrown a spanner in the works IMO.

Yep, agreed, although Melksham as the defensive forward will be an interesting watch come finals. My feeling is we want to play two recognised talls forward of centre and are making do with Max and LJ forward to partner Weideman, but that we might prefer Brown and TMac/JVR ultimately, over Brown and Melksham.

It may well be a horses for courses thing though. If we think Melksham is a good defensive match up on a key interceptor or 1v1 defender, we might play him, but I can't see Melksham playing in big finals. I could be wrong, but it may well depend on the fitness of TMac or the courage of playing JVR.

It does seem though that playing Melksham enables more space in forward 50 for us, because Melksham gets up the ground, or plays forward anchor, and this gives room for the likes of Kozzy, Fritsch and even a trailing JJ or Langdon to work in.

It'll be interesting to see how it works with Brown in the team, I expect at the expense of Weideman.

Besides missing a few gettable shots, I thought Melkshams game and his job on Brennan was top shelf.

Took a massive step forward in this one. Caught in two minds at times but don't want to sleep on him and what he can bring.

No shame in that Nasher.  Along with the siren going & the post siren goal from Macca i would say this is one of the happiest moments in my life.

The most importent  thing missing from Melkshams games now is his bullet passes into the forward 50 and that's exactly what we need now coz none of the mids do it .

I don't recall him hitting up with a bullet pass but one kick i do recall was a bullet directed into a dangerous part of the forward 30 that sent the Freo defenders into a bit of chaos as they had no way of preparing to defend it.  Just came in so quick.  I think this is the sort of stuff that's really beneficial for us given we don't have a dominant contested marking KF at present.

Possibly not far off IRW.  I get the feeling it would take a good 3 to 5 matches at AFL level (without a break) to get to a level of AFL match fitness that sees a player executing some of the top shelf stuff.  At least on a semi-regular basis anyway.  Even if he doesn't i'd be wrapped if he brings the level we saw against Freo most weeks from here!

Sorry I’m ridiculously late. Just got home from an extended weekend in Perth. Went to the game (I now have someone to stay with there 😁) What a great game. Never once did I think it was in doubt. Led all game and never looked like giving it up once. Our boys were superb. Getting back in form at the right time.

Only thing was the crowd was absolutely feral. They make Essendon fans look timid. Booed anytime they gave up the ball. Loud and abusive. Was called a few name by a few uncouth people (luckily I was defended by my man.)
Other than that it was absolutely freezing. Got absolutely soaked. We had to go to the apartment afterwards and change. And what they said about the noise was correct. You can’t believe how loud it is there.

But all in all, had a lovely long weekend. Hoping to go to more game here next year ❤️

BT's gardening tips and turf analysis over the last couple of weeks have been nauseating too.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
