Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Can anyone explain to me why Weid was called back to take his kick. Appeared he marked it, continued holding the footy (ie did not drop it) and then spun to kick the goal and all before umpire called time off. Maybe I missed something but I thought that is play on every day if the week?

It’s not just opposition supporters, who think Spargo is no good. @picket fence has been on his case for years. Had a few slices of humble pie last season during the finals series.

However when we went through a downward trend this season he was on him again

The kid can really play, he has great footy IQ and awareness of what is happening around him. He makes good decisions with ball in hand. At one point last night Freo had set up to force us down the line on the southern wing of the ground. Spargo hits a dart pass off the outside of his right boot on the 45 and picks a Dee (possibly Melk) lace out , which opens up the ground and leaves Freo defenders all exposed on the wrong side of their opponent

When Bedford has been in the team Spargo has played further up the ground. Spargo is far more valuable forward of centre.

God what a great game. Huge result. Loved seeing Gus back in the midfield.

Indeed, having a genuine dual-sided player is such a weapon in the centre. He must be a nightmare to defend. It was a tie for BOG between Gus and Viney for mine. I cant remember Gus making a bad decision all night, and his tackling and pressure was off the charts. Great game.

Salem on the other hand...is not the same player as 2021. Too often beaten in 1v1s and his kicking lacks penetration and precision.

So proud of this effort last night. Down Fitzroy St in St Kilda with the scarf on and just revelling in the glory of that win.

The boys were switched on right from the start with the pressure and even though the scoring didn't come immediately, we didn't stop bringing it until we got some scores on the board.

However not only did we bring the pressure on the ball carrier, our defensive structure was suffocating. We were back to the spreading quickly and marking space, there was no-where for these Freo jokers to go at all. All this talk of picking and choosing when to go really got to these guys and they responded like a reigning premier does.

Jack Viney played off his chops, I said it against Brisbane but this guy could play in a pinball machine right now and still come up with the ball. Love the way he's accelerating out of contests at the moment. Oliver had the hard tag by Aish. You need to be careful as a coach when you do these things, last year Harmes on Libba worked the first time but not so much the next time but he did do a very good job again. He didn't count on Petracca the bull tearing them a new A. I underestimated Petracca's game and thought he butchered it a lot but he ran at 86% efficiency. Would have loved him to dob that set shot though. Gus played like he was stoked to have the contract stuff done, I loved his game and it also didn't get enough credit. Langdon provided great width and I loved the way he took his set shot. Loved Sparrow's efforts, he knows exactly when to hit with a line breaking run.

Our backline was great, Petty absolutely the pick of the bunch. This guy is a defensive stud and don't underestimate his toughness. Speaking of toughness, two ankle bungers for Lever and he still made it back out there. Hope that ankle is OK because it did seem like he couldn't jump much on the Logue goal. Positive step forward for Salo

Sam Weideman, I loved the one time you got off the chain from Pearce but this kind of game will not cut it. Caught under the ball at least 5 times from my count. I'll back him in every time he's selected but I simply need to see more physical presence. He is a massive liability right now. Thought it was one of Fritsch's better games for the year, he always chose the best option whether that was a shot or pass. Small forwards amazing Kozzie, Spargo, ANB was a little down but they don't all need to be brilliant at the same time.

I'm clearly rushing this because I'm getting an evil eye but I'm so stoked with this win. If there were nerves this week then next week will be bedlam. Enjoy the say my folks, it's been a week that has ended well 😀

Maybe recency bias but considering our form and with finals nearby but this was just about our best win of the year. Our full ground defence looked every bit as good as last years finals run and from the opening bounce there was zero doubt from me that we would be winning this game. Can't wait to smash Collingwood next week.

Fremantle didn't try to move the ball quickly which suits our game style.   I hope that's not the reason we won the because other teams like Collingwood next week will move the ball quickly.

Many times the reason was that our defensive set up was so tight and well structured they had no good option to kick to.

I had the same thought, that our zone was too good but I think Fremantle were really flat and couldn't move the ball quickly.  So I'm not convinced that we've found a way to counter the fast ball movement.

As much as I am a huge fan of Sparrow, I have been one of his critics this year. A lot of clumsy football and poor disposal. But he was much better last night. He maintained his physical edge but made better decisions once he was in a place to deliver. Kudos to him - onward and upward for him now I hope.

Even though I was disappointed when Hunt was dropped, I understood why. But it was great to see him doing his thing last night. In patches I thought he was super. He will always have a few "Frosty" mind fades or mistakes but his line breaking is invaluable.

You gotta love Hibbo - he reminds me of a 1980's footballer. Socks down, unkempt, untidy but simply a natural footballer with a great brain and a great kick. I will never forget his run with the Premiership cup in hand.

Absolute shockers from Weid, ANB and Jackson (he had a few patches of good footy).

I used to quote the phrase "OK boys, spread out" whenever Fritsch was kicking for goal. His reliability was atrocious. Not now. One of the classiest players we have produced in along long time. A very good mark, a wonderful kick, a better tackler than you would think with his slight build, and cat like reflexes at ground level. Nowhere in the same stratosphere, but he is classy in the way Robbie Flower was.

I love Demonland after a win!!

Have always thought Sparrow was fantastic

my favourite little moment last night was in maybe the third quarter he got into a bit of a scrap and was holding two blokes by the jumper at arms length, one in each hand.

He’s only a little fella and when you meet him and chat to him he seems like he’s about 12, but gee he’s a tough kid and really cracks in.

As for BT grouping him as a player ‘pressing for his spot’, how laughable.

Agree. That remains the question.
Freo played into our hands.

Pies will be a good test for our game style.

You can understand why Luke Jackson wasn't in the circle belting out the song after the game.

Given he was being assessed for possible concussion, they didn't want him doing any headbanging.

They were worried that in his concussed state he might start singing "Freo, way to go".

Spargs is that player who earns you sideways looks when you enthusiastically defend his value to the side and wax lyrical about his skillful ball use. Opposition supporters seem to genuinely think he’s no good. His role, onfield demeanour and physical size may have a part to play in that. I feel like many would get a real shock if they paid closer attention to him.

It's not just opposition supporters but I agree players like Spargo, ANB and Sparrow although maligned are every bit a part of the first 22.

The dribble from the commentary box tonight was atrocious. 5 minutes on LJ and 3 minutes on stucko. Call the game!

Pearls of wisdom such as…

Taylor: “wow the ball spun and bounced backwards. If that bounced over the line if would have been deliberate. What do you make of that?

Brayshaw: “I guess it’s the oval shape of the ball…”

Enoughs enough. Get rid of these idiots.

My favourite was who ever wins the most games in the last 4 weeks of the year normally wins the flag :/

So we have a great win and this is all some have to focus on…

Incidentally, one of our cheer squad members picked the guernsey up and handed it back to the fan. She said he was a stupid teenager and he looked “sheepish” when she returned it to him.  Which suggests he knew what he’d done was idiotic. Thing is, he did the same thing after the match too. Seems he is more stupid than sheepish.  😑

edit: after Melksy dropped it on the ground, when Tracc walked past it he kicked it further under the fence. Funny, no one’s mentioning that.

Agree WE GOT INTO FREO’S HEAD

Teams have beaten us if they play with dare and run. It seems easy to say but it’s often harder to do.  The Pies will bring the run.  Daicos and Crisp and Pendlebury won’t be scared.

Another point to note still. But we need to do more than defend.  60 inside “50s” and 12 goals. We need to get better ourselves in attack. Yes we have a gun defence.  A lack of a key forward will be a worry. No Franklin. No Hawkins/Cameron.  Not a Mihocek. FFS not even a Daniher.  We need a fit BBB at least.

Watching Oliver it is clear he is still hampered by his broken thumb. His normally instantaneous clean ball takes were still absent and his handball skills were suppressed. May need another couple of weeks to fully recover. Costing him at least ten possessions a game.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
