Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The industry is pretty much . . . last thought that went through my brain is the truth. It's pretty much Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

You can just hear King on Monday, Demons defensive intensity was back, but they did it against Brisbane then dropped off, what will they do the next three weeks. Listen to Binman on the Demonland podcast and you will know!!

Well, we’re back baby, as in back to back, and with some luck with injuries and we’re a big show to win the next six in a row!

Meh. You can pretend you're above it all if you like, but I consume and enjoy all footy culture, be it demonland, deebrief, fox footy and free tv shows, websites (Bigfooty, mongrel punt etc) radio and podcasts. We're in the premiership window and I intend to consume as much as possible, and call out the ones who go down the route of hot-takes. So what? It's not like this is going to last forever.

Of course I consume it but a friend of mine used to work for Croc Media and knows Hutchison well - they literally design their views around reaction. Hutchison admitted to my mate that he will say something (or advise/cajole someone else to say something) that he doesn’t believe just so it hits your cerebral cortex and gets you annoyed or fired up.

I am not above getting riled up over what Twitters algorithm sends me but I am trying to not get inflamed as that is it’s intention…

Great point. The podcast really provide great strategic insight. George and Binman countered by Mr MFCSS it classic entertainment with spot on analysis. If you just watch footy at surface level you miss nuances like loading; system; follow the money. After assessing the podcast I had no doubt Dees would win. Keep up the good work boys.

A thumbs down to the Shockers retro guernsey too. The ‘MacPaint anchor’ strip is up there as one of the worst alternative strips in AFL history (along with Hawthorn’s jockey strip royal blue with brown and gold diamonds from ‘93 preseason, their Power Ranger jumper, North’s horrible orange jumper and our Bali knockoff strip from 2017).

I also have bad memories of it because the last time we played a Fremantle team wearing that jumper, Tony Modra kicked 10 and we lost by 9 goals.

How good has Hibberd been since he’s come back into the side!!

Give the pig another year

When you're in a position to compete like we are at the moment, players like Hibberd must be retained. So good at halving genuine contests, which really stands out the way football is now played.

The change to player empowerment has been terrible for players like Hibberb...unless they are at a club that is trying to win a flag the next season, foot soldiers up and around the age of 30 are now being let go in favour of bringing in youth. With high profile players abandoning clubs as soon as they think the flag window is shut, clubs are now also abandoning the peripheral contributors as soon as they believe they'll be too old for the next flag tilt. Free agency and players dictating destinations between contracts does not work well in this sport.

Most of us knew Spargo would kick the goal on his left foot near the point post in the third yeah? He’s very skilful our Charlie.

Spargs is that player who earns you sideways looks when you enthusiastically defend his value to the side and wax lyrical about his skillful ball use. Opposition supporters seem to genuinely think he’s no good. His role, onfield demeanour and physical size may have a part to play in that. I feel like many would get a real shock if they paid closer attention to him.

In his interview yesterday Richardson said if we make the GF the team will be different to last year.  I guess that means changes before then to settle the team and to gain cohesion.

I listened to some of the post game interviews:

  • Petracca said they were prepared for the Oliver tag and Oliver sacrificed his game by positioning himself in a way that gave Viney more space.  We saw the result!.  Viney made the most of his attacking role while Oliver was effectively the defensive mid.  Usually, if Oliver is tagged we unleash Petracca.  A clever change of roles to unleash Viney instead.  Unlikely teams would have prepare for that.
  • Gus said they had planned for him to go into the midfield a while back but needed to wait until a spot was available (paraphrasing).  He added it was coincidence it was this week post contract, against his brother.   While I don't believe everything that is said by players and other club staff I have no reason to doubt Gus.  I guess Harmes being out and expecting Oliver to be tagged, opened up the space for Gus in the midfield.

Freo looked lost in the midfield.  Aish's tagging role worked well but he didn't have much impact.  The others looked confused with our ability (Viney and Gus) to find so much space to attack.  We 'surprised' them with Oliver going defensive and they didn't know what to do.

At this time of year the teams that have been top 4-5 all year will be level pegging on fitness and readied to finish the season strongly so not a lot to differentiate them.  It is contest and ruthlessness that set us apart last night and will continue to do so.

And it is the 'surprises' and tactics that coaches bring to the game that will help make a difference.  I reckon we have a few more surprises up our sleeve.

It’s not just opposition supporters, who think Spargo is no good. @picket fence has been on his case for years. Had a few slices of humble pie last season during the finals series.

However when we went through a downward trend this season he was on him again

The kid can really play, he has great footy IQ and awareness of what is happening around him. He makes good decisions with ball in hand. At one point last night Freo had set up to force us down the line on the southern wing of the ground. Spargo hits a dart pass off the outside of his right boot on the 45 and picks a Dee (possibly Melk) lace out , which opens up the ground and leaves Freo defenders all exposed on the wrong side of their opponent

He is clearly our best user of the ball in the forward half.

Often low possies, but creative with them and can score, often from nothing, like that goal last night.

As much as I am a huge fan of Sparrow, I have been one of his critics this year. A lot of clumsy football and poor disposal. But he was much better last night. He maintained his physical edge but made better decisions once he was in a place to deliver. Kudos to him - onward and upward for him now I hope.

Even though I was disappointed when Hunt was dropped, I understood why. But it was great to see him doing his thing last night. In patches I thought he was super. He will always have a few "Frosty" mind fades or mistakes but his line breaking is invaluable.

You gotta love Hibbo - he reminds me of a 1980's footballer. Socks down, unkempt, untidy but simply a natural footballer with a great brain and a great kick. I will never forget his run with the Premiership cup in hand.

Absolute shockers from Weid, ANB and Jackson (he had a few patches of good footy).

I used to quote the phrase "OK boys, spread out" whenever Fritsch was kicking for goal. His reliability was atrocious. Not now. One of the classiest players we have produced in along long time. A very good mark, a wonderful kick, a better tackler than you would think with his slight build, and cat like reflexes at ground level. Nowhere in the same stratosphere, but he is classy in the way Robbie Flower was.

I love Demonland after a win!!

That one he slotted from the boundary was a thing of beauty. Could not have kicked it any better.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
