Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I alway remember last year after the Tigers win TMac was in the rooms talking to Channel 7 about the demands of the modern game, and changing his running regime, diet and weights work to better reflect his role.

The commentary team went to enormous lengths to move the topic away from what he was actually discussing back to dumb, football cliches. It was painfully obvious they don’t want to talk about analysis and insight, they want to talk about ‘going harder’ and ‘taking speccys’ and ‘copping one for your troubles’.

King’s bosses would love him. He talks in ‘hardness’ and uses dumb stats to make points about effort (the amount of time he says a side is the number 1 team in something over the last 4 rounds is laughable. He never tells you who they played, or where). It’s all about keeping those looking for blood coming back for it. Look at Demonland after a loss. I’d bet the engagement is up. Negativity is a cycling emotion. It wants to be fed. That’s what all media does well - the AFL is no exception.

Well we definitely learnt not to listen to what Gus says in the media.

“I won’t be making a decision any time soon”

2 days later, bang, 6 year deal.

Yep, appealing to emotions that the every day punter can relate to :-  “having a go”, “hunger”, “team first”, “bleeding for his mates”  etc.

Not many of us can relate to the sports science requirements of an elite athlete

Except that is not what he said.

He said:

'There is no investment there in your teammate. It's every man for himself '.

And specifically singled out the "leaders' and  Max, trac and oliver as examples of this lack of investment.

Nev, I simply can't believe you find such an insult ok.

Demonstone made the reasonable point sometime back that if i get so wound up by David King, then i should just stop watching or listening to him. And i have largely taken that advice.

I normally love listening and watching anything football at this time of the year.

...but I just (and it's not just because it's great) put on music now...King has ruined my enjoyment so I find it elsewhere.

If we do happen to win the flag this year I will make a point of ringing and in the words of Teddy Whitten "stick it right up him"...

We've been rubbish and all the recurring words from club insiders this week have spoken to attitude so I reckon we have to cop the criticisms until we prove them wrong. Richo said tonight we've been complacent and there's been more conversations this week than normal so just seems hard to argue something isn't going on with team attitude.

If the football boss and usually straight bat is using a word like 'complacent' then there's been a bit happening IMO.

C'mon nev, I also know you are not naive enough to take the public comments from the club on face value and know that they speak in code.

You have said maxy has been carrying an injury for some time. I'll take that on face value.

Given that, I assume you scoffed when goody in his presser before the cats game said maxy (and jacko) was '100% fit' and we wouldn't play him otherwise'.

It was clear as day, as soon as the game started, that was a complete load of bollocks.

I knew that may was carrying a hammy into the gf (didn't post it on dl, because i asked not to).

But was not surprised in the least when mutiple people from the club assured fans he was 100% fine.

There are a million other examples.

@binman I think you've gone a bit too hard on this one.

I think the messaging from the club this week indicates that we've focused on our effort levels. This happens a lot, there is a key theme at the club and key words permeate through press conferences and quotes from players. This week "ruthless" and "buy in" seem to be a theme.

I reckon we've had a chat this week about the selflessness and effort that got us to the flag last year and how, perhaps, now is the time for us to lift that effort. I personally reckon too many of our best 22 have had a gear they've not been going to that they showed last year, and unlike you I do not pin that all down to loading.

Mate, you don't have the exact same words coming up from the coach, the footy boss and 2 senior players as purely a coincidence.

That's a very different thing compared to making information about injuries public.

I still believe a lot of it is to do with injuries, which has robbed us of player consistency and copping shorter breaks, especially after travel interstate the week before. This shorter break, in my opinion, is a reason for our fade outs, late into the last quarter.

Reduced team pressure is obviously another big factor.

@binman I watched the segment you referenced and I had a obnoxious grin on my face while watching it, such was my confidence. All the talk of teams switching it so much against us just made me think of a rat in a maze. I don’t think Freo will know what hit them when they try to switch it against us tonight!

I didn’t mention it because King contradicts himself day to day, so any take on it would be outdated pretty quickly 😂

Yes, King just tries to grab headlines, very one point sensitive and never gets called on it.

Would love to see him on Demonland podcast, he would get obliterated!

As mentioned at some point in last 24 hours on one of the Demonland threads - Ross Lyon bags May game against Freo and no idea he played half a quarter and went off!

Demonlanders on the podcast much better listening and pretty close too the money for mine!

Could the talk of ‘ruthlessness’ be a little bit of code for being fresh.

If we come out firing tonight, it looks to most like an attitude issue that we adjusted, when in reality it was just getting to the end of the loading period and we can actually cover the ground required to be ruthless.

Exactly.

The club knew we would be significantly better this week. And also know how dumb the media are, so they have planted the narrative pre game “pow wow”, “ruthlessness”, “hunger” etc

whatever.

Hook, line and sinker. Watch every stupid media commentator say for the next week, how we have magically re-discovered our “ruthlessness”, “fitness”, and “defensive game”.

And most painful of all will be Kingy claiming he was correct in identifying the “pow wow” as a turning point.

We have played 9 games with Lever, May and Petty in and won 7 of them and one of the two losses, was when May went off concussed, early in the 2nd quarter.

Consistency of playing together as a defensive unit is extremely important.

Those three played tonight and we added the pressure back and hey presto.

You appear to have good contacts within the club and, understandably, wish to protect them by revealing information in the form of an opinion piece. If that is the case, please accept my gratitude. Your "theories" about loading have been insightful, whether they are your own ideas or information obtained from other sources.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
