Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would switching Hibbo onto a flank and Salem into the back pocket be sensible? We're not getting much drive from Salem at present.

I wouldnt want Salem close to the oppo goals. He is the elephant in the room for me at the moment.

I don’t know what Mark Williams does.

He seems to sit back in the bleachers, chewing gum, not talking to anybody.

One man too many enjoying the view when he could be in the box.

Seems to be heading down the same path as Macca.

We will have a mini shake up in the Coaches box next year.. im pretty confident Ooze will be down to the last couple for the GWS job, and Chocco might get poached by North to perform a developing role.

I am pretty confident we will put in a strong showing against Freo on our favourite away ground, but I am still mega worried that our conservative set-up out of defence will continue, enabling Freo to chop us off.

The Dockers have plenty of strong marks, as we saw at the MCG in May, and we can't just continue to go left, left and left again. The issue is huge because the Cats and Doggies exploited our tactic and what's worse, it generally is Langdon's side and his value is his run, not his marking ability. Ideally what we need to do is to be switching to his wing because that's his strength, not going out to his side from kick-ins.

Clearly we have a problem of confidence in our right-side and as good as James Jordon has been in terms of work rate, he is not providing line-breaking runs or marking safety marking intercepts.

Given he also has an injury and is 50-50, it is time to trial a new player on the wing. To me their is only one strong-marking tall that has the speed and tackling ability to shock the Dockers - Luke Jackson. Yes it means Gawn has to ruck for longer, but his tapping ability in the last term against the Dogs was phenomenal and we need his presence against Darcy and Lobb. Our other options is to bring in pace on the near-side wing, but to me, getting Jackson more involved and using his height-advantage will present problems for the Dockers and give us a viable right-side aerial outlet.

The counter-argument is that it's too late in the season to make changes, but that's been our policy all season - our only fundamental difference to last season has been changing Angus to defence which was brought on by injuries pre-season.

Playing Jackson on the wing allows us to include Ben Brown without having to drop the Weid. Lever's returns most likely means Tomlinson misses.

The other issue is that Rivers has had two games back and is yet to provide heaps of run. I am sure he can play, but unfortunatelt this is his growth year via the VFL. He has to either learn to be the third tall defender or be given clear instructions to take the game on and become a weapon like a Bailey Dale. Neither seems to have happened as yet.

One of Bowey or Hunt has to come back in for Rivers and I think Bowey's game in the VFL was exceptional, so i'd err towards him and make Hunt the sub, so that he can provide value down back or up front if called into that role.

The final change is tricky - Chandler has to play. He's been close so many times but he deserves his shot in the big league more than any other player and it can't be as sub - he has to play. As a result a hard call has to be made on Spargo, ANB, Harmes or Melky - all of whom had their moments against the Dogs. If it's wet I'd leave out Melky, but I'd pencil him back in for the game against the Pies.

I also think we have to better utilise Harmes, who had a shocker against the Dogs, highlighted by his appalling kick to Melky in the second term. To me Harmes provides run in the middle and we have to use him more in there and a hard-tag on Brayshaw will suit him. That means Trac has to spend more time forward. but that's what happens when you aren't quite doing the superstar stuff in the middle of the park.

So for me, it's time to get bigger and less predictable.

In: Lever, B.Brown, Bowey, Chandler and Hunt as sub

Out: Jordon (inj), Tomlinson, Rivers, Melky

"Pickett kicked 6 last week and 2 last night. He is inconsistent but he has absolute star quality and is so dangerous, he threatens to take every game apart. I can't see him being dropped".

If you miss easy goals from 35 out something is massively wrong with his set shot routine. That miss swung momentum and became a 2 goal turnaround. Unforgivable really!

Lever, BBB, Hunt and for

Tomlinson, Jordan, Spargo

In all seriousness if we can't win this week by 4-5 goals then it's time to be genuinely concerned and write off the season.

Nothing at all against Freo but they are starting to show their inexperience and the season is falling away from them -- we are miles ahead of them and should win comfortably. Win this week and only one more win should net us top 4.

Well argued especially the piece about LJ on the wing. Certainly left field but I appreciate fresh ideas

Lots of rain in Perth this week.

Freo don't like playing in the wet.  Totally smashed by GCS and Coll in the wet.

They have been practicing wet weather football.

Not a week to go too tall.

Second hand info, but we'll lose a player to concussion protocols this week. Apologies, but can't say who at this stage (and won't be answering guesses), just know it's not a tall and not Trac or Clarry.

Injuries really hitting us atm, big few weeks for Selwyn, the medical team etc.

out Tomlinson, Jordan , Spargo and  Melk .   in Laurie , BB if fit , Van R and Lever . Would like to see Brayshaw play forward, Jackson to play on wing . Weid to ruck 30 %  with  70 % in forward pocket OR Jackson to be dropped , sorry MANAGED then we bring in Howes. Sh.t this would not be in Goody's vanilla play book. Harmes to mind Freo's  Brayshaw

we've had a pretty bad spate of copping injuries early in the games this season

it would seem that burgess isn't just good at managing injury and fitness but also brings a fair dose of luck with him

I would think any sort of win, sure 4-5 goals would be great, will give hope (and expectations) for the rest of the season.
Another loss and I would agree with you.

Oh come on now, it's not good enough to beat a top 4 contender at their home ground, we now have to do it by 4-5 goals or else you'll write off our season?

Far out.

haha I worded it poorly. A win is a win, you're right, it sounds ridiculous. I meant we should win, and if we do I reckon it'll be by 4-5 goals.

If we suspected he had a concussion why didn’t we activate the sub? I can’t see how a player copped a concussion during the game and played on. Didn’t think that was allowed. Unless it happened within the last 20 minutes of the game?

Delayed concussion symptoms the most likely answer to that one.

You can pass the test Jaded but have symptoms kick in later on. So maybe that.

Or maybe someone copped one at training

Wouldn’t they do a concussion test during the game tho? They seem to review every incident and pull players off as deemed necessary.

I didn’t see anyone do the 20 minute protocol. So even if they passed initially a test would still have needed to be done.
Could the concussion have happened at training?

Didn't Jordon cop quite a head knock against the Dogs?  Or was it someone else?  Unless a training mishap I suppose...?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
