They kicked 5-2 to ours 1-3.

So frustrating. And where did Fritta & Weiderman go in the final quarter?

I would be asking where the midfield went in the last myself. We had chances at the end but just bombed it high. We don’t have pack crashing forwards Goody!

Umpiring was a disgrace, two different sets of rules out there

Yeah I tend to agree. I am really patient watching the footy. Never turn it off like a lot of ppl I know so when it gets close. Tonight I did. I thought we played really well. But it’s hard to win when the free kick count is one sided. I actually feel sorry for our guys.

Dogs played better than us in the second half. Dogs also kissed on the D by the umps. Every 50/50 went against us but given to them . May brain fart kick across goal and kozzie miss cost us. Still annoys me ugle Hagen was gifted to the dogs and they changed the rules straight after . We are still second and destiny in our hands . Bulldogs played their grand final and as good as they can. Us still room to improve not slitting my wrists yet.

Please, umpires didn't decide the result.

Dogs thoroughly deserved the win. Played like their season depending on it, and did some pretty impressive stuff.

Still, f**k me May, wtf

+ kossie two misses and Fritz not being hungry. How many times does Max want to take it out of the ruck to be pinged

How many time do we spoil each other.

Easier to flop for a free kick in a pack than stand strong.

Very unlike May.

What TF was Gawn thinking grabbing the ball out of the ruck on the flank... dumb, dumb, dumb. Too many stupid errors made to have won that.

On the other hand, would have been a great game to watch for neutral fans and Jamarra's goal at the end was epic.

Almost as stupid as belting it indiscriminately when no one goes up against him.

I love Max, but God he does some stupid things.

Embarrassing performance. Tomlinson not AFL standard. May reaching Maxwell lvels of finger pointing while making schoolboy errors himself. Disappointed in Brayshaw. Gets enough of it and can win a contest but disposal for an experienced player is woeful. Petracca once again not near an actual contest. Getting beaten by Ugle Hagan is a pathetic step in a premiership defence.

They just wanted it more. Smashed us in ground balls. Always got first use. As an aside,  dump kicks into the corridor from D50 need to be banned. If you can’t dump kick boundary side, handball into space and try to affect a stoppage.

Putrid. We could easily lose the next 4 games if we can’t even beat the Dogs. We are in horrible form.
Gawn is playing hurt and it’s costing us. Apart from Oliver and Petty, we haven’t had one player this year play good consistent footy and deliver week in week out. We are missing the spark and hunger that got us the flag last year.

Seething and shaking with anger.  Get over it after a nice bath    Bloody hell!!!!!!!!!   And then you have to put up with the druggie behind interviewed.   Yep spark gone second half of year.  How far Geelong

When I saw they got 59 points to half time, alarm bells were ringing for me despite the 15 point lead.

When we are truly in control, the opposition scores roughly sixty points for the match. We were clearly playing a game on their terms and lost as a result.

Yes, the umpiring was terrible at times. But the amount of dump kicks coming out of defensive fifty were where we lost this. The amount of repeat fifty entries we had against us crippled us.

On current form, we aren't winning the flag this year. We are a top 8 team for sure. But a premiership team? Not on your life.

I was saying a couple of months ago that it was us, the Lions and daylight. Sadly, the Cats are now the team to beat (their kids like Atkins, De Koning, Close and Holmes have improved considerably). At the moment, we are just making up the numbers. Things could change, but they'll need to change soon.

Gawn and Jackson are so woefully out of form it's not funny.

The less said about May's brain explosion, the better.

Contrary to many, I reckon that was our best chance for a win from here to finals, so being so comprehensively outplayed in the second half is very disappointing. They were fierce, clean, and opened us up like a tin of old sardines from the breakdown, and made us look just predictable and under-committed. Consequently, not only will top 2 be a bridge too far now, but top 4 I suspect given our run home. Haven’t seen Maxy lower his colours like that to another ruckman in 5 years - he won’t be happy - and many players were unsighted in the second half. Umpires yes, a problem again of course, but you expect that vs Dogs, and in truth they were way better. We just keep plugging from here, but a home town flag is looking very very shaky.

Don't want to overreact because it's a very close league but pretty concerning how we are losing matches.

It's something like 40 goals to 17 in the second half in loses. That's very concerning.

I think fitness must be a major problem. Why should we be more  “tired” than any other team? Couldn’t match their spread and run all night. Made us look lazy. And the holding the ball disease! Beaten by a better drilled fitter and more desperate team. Umpiring was dreadful but not the reason we lost. Sorry not this year.

Called it out in the VFL game day thread, but some clueless posters didn’t like it.

We have no plan B and our Plan A has been well and truly figured out. We’ve gone 3-5 since our 10 & 0 start, and it’s looking likely we’ll miss top 4 with our run home. The way we’re playing atm, any team in the 8 will be praying to play us. We have no competitive desire, no hunger for the contest, and no killing instinct (we get up by a decent amount, then simply surrender).

Spargo can flounder in the 2’s for all I care, he’s a small forward that doesn’t crumb, nor kick goals. If Jackson thinks he’s worth more than $500k a year with those weak efforts, Freo are welcome to him. Trac just doesn’t have his head in the game, May should join the umpiring ranks (as clearly it’s one rule for him and another for everyone else). As for Harmes, look elsewhere, as you are the epitome of dead weight.

Poor Clarrie with his 1 busted hand is the only one who gives his all 100% of the time. As for Gawn, the big fella ain’t gonna be around much longer, his body is just about cactus (from all the years of abuse he’s copped, yet never complained about once).

Our once mighty defence is becoming very leaky, which is now uncovering the weaknesses of our midfield and forward line. Unless we make drastic changes to our KPF stocks and bring in fresh blood in the middle, 2021 will be the only success this team will see.

    GRAND NEW FLAG by Meggs

Daisy was at pains to tell everyone who asked that the grand final story was NOT the Daisy Pearce story.  She wanted people to focus on the Melbourne Football Club, our wonderful players and non-playing teammates, her legacy buddy head coach Mick Stinear, the assistant coaches, the Club volunteers, the Board, the administrators, #DeeArmy, all supporters, in fact anyone who bleeds for the red and the blue.  But it is also a bit about the pioneer, role model, mother who is Daisy Pearce

EYES ON THE PRIZE by Meggs

The Stinear/Pearce partnership has evolved over the 7 AFLW seasons and they have built a team with talented, committed footballers who play for each other and execute a highly entertaining brand of footy. On Sunday can a premiership be added to this legacy? This may well be the last time we see Daisy in the mighty red and blue as she contemplates her start date for a coaching role ‘Down at Kardinia Park’.  Last week’s sensational sealer in the Prelim showed everybody that Daisy could s

    DAISY’S DEMON DRIVE by Meggs

On a blustery Saturday afternoon when the conditions affected marking skills and the ball bounced unpredictably, the Mighty Dees stuck fat against a determined Kangaroos outfit to break away with two final quarter goals to none to win AFLW Preliminary Final 2 by 17 points — an all-time high winning margin between these two teams.  From the outset it was a fiercely fought contest with Melbourne unable to find the ball in space. North really amped up their one-percenters an

NOT A MOMENT TO MISS by Meggs

The AFLW Season 7 fixture was carefully crafted to purposely handicap the better teams and give the expansion and developing sides an easier draw.  Nonetheless, this weekend’s Preliminary Finals will showcase the Lions, Demons, Crows and Roos, teams widely accepted as the best 4 in the competition.   In Friday night’s Prelim 1 the minor premiers, Brisbane, will start warm favourites at home against Adelaide.   On Saturday afternoon at Ikon Park, Prelim 2 between Melbourne and North is

STICK TO YOUR GUNS by Meggs

The Dees convincingly overcome the fast-starting reigning-premiers Adelaide to win by 21 points in a fiery Qualifying Final match at Ikon Park on Friday evening.     In that first quarter Adelaide jumped out of the blocks kicking their first goal inside 20 seconds finishing with 3 goals to nil. All was quiet at Ikon Park.     Melbourne, having easily outplayed lesser opponents over the past six weeks took time to ratchet up their intensity.  But, by mid to late first quarter, the Dees be

    HEAVYWEIGHTS by Meggs

AFLW heavyweights Melbourne and Adelaide kick off the AFLW Season 7 Final Series with a massive Qualifying Final clash at Ikon Park this Friday night at 7:10pm.  The game promises to be a cracker.   Last season’s Grand Final combatants last met in Round 1where Melbourne came away with a strong 18-point victory at Glenelg Oval. The Dees will be hoping to replicate the result and move directly to the Preliminary Final.    While Adelaide may not have been as intimidating this season as in p

MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH by Meggs

Congratulations to Daisy’s Dees on a huge 78-point one-sided win against West Coast in challenging windy and wet conditions at Casey Fields.     The banner celebrating Sarah Lampard’s 50 games was a victim of the wind, but nonetheless Lampy received a warm round of applause from the parochial crowd in attendance.   Melbourne has the double-chance and is excited about its chances in the Season 7 AFLW finals. If this means the Grand Final is played at Metricon and the Demond make it, then

LIVE IN THE MOMENT by Meggs

The final home and away match of Season 7, sees the mighty Dees at Fortress Casey hosting the 16th placed West Coast.     A win assures the Dees of a Top-2 finish, with the ultimate placings dependent upon the previous night’s result between Brisbane and Collingwood and the relative percentages.   As our match is anticipated to be one-sided, interest may turn to monitoring the live ladder to see whether or not Melbourne has secured the minor premiership.     The Demons (Lions and Cro

    BOMBED by Whispering Jack

Melbourne has all but assured itself of a top two finish to the (second) 2022 AFLW season after crushing Essendon by 41 points on Sunday. It now holds a four point lead over third placed Adelaide along with a handy percentage advantage with one round remaining before the finals. The Demons opened kicking with the advantage of the squally wind that often prevails at Casey Fields and for the third week in a row, they kept their opponents scoreless in the opening term.
