Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think 43 is what we will get without other picks and stuff involved.

I've got a feeling GWS are waiting till they have sorted out all there other trades before they look at that one.

We’re also seen to be doing the same thing, so that we can hand over only 27 for Grundy, but Freo is holding it all up.

I’d like to see us then move picks to GC for next year so that we can get back in earlier for this draft.

I should add, while we may be perceived as doing the same thing as Freo (particularly in the eyes of Collingwood), I think the distinction (as far as we’re concerned) is that we would happily keep Jackson despite Freo doing their best to pry him out of our hands, whereas Collingwood are actively pushing Grundy out the door and we are happy to be on the receiving end, at the right price.

The catalyst and agitator in both circumstances is the other club, not us.

So his trade to GWS pick 44 has been dealt to Freo as part of the Jackson trade.

Did we get anything else from GWS?  Disappointing if we didn't as Lamb was fairly strong when he rejected 44 last week.

Noithing, everything we got from Freo is effectively for Jackson and Bedford.

bedford was always one of my favourties due to taking the no12 which has always been my number thanks to col sylvia growing up as well as the romance of being a late pick from the NGA, sad to see him go but from a selfish pov can totally understand why he's done it, i hope he makes us regret underutilising him and has a lengthy career as a (slightly less than average sized) giant

So in essence we could have traded Bedford for a tenth round pick in the first minute of the trade period and been no worse off? Laughable waste of time and effort.

No it enabled us to get Freo's F2nd in the Jackson trade.

Yes 44 from GWS to us and our 67 both passed on to Freo in Jacko  trade. We got Freo 2ND Future Rounder. As a result .

I agree with the bold. I guess what we disagree on is what is 'much'.

Pick 58 isn't anything of value at all. It's possible that pick 58 wouldn't be used at all. We used pick 65 last year on Woewodin as the last pick in the draft.

A pick in the 40s isn't much. I guess we will

This part of the trade was very disappointing IMO.  Jackson was worth 2 firsts and a second alone.  So to get that for him and Toby makes me feel a bit ripped off!

Yeah that does cheese me off a bit too. I guess there is some comfort in getting a Future second from Freo instead of GWS's pick 44 though.

GREATER Western Sydney recruit Toby Bedford says the opportunity to play more senior footy was ultimately the reason why he opted to request a trade from Melbourne.  Bedford played 18 games in four seasons for the Demons, including 16 appearances this year, but the majority of those came as the medical sub.  The small forward was ultimately part of a three-way trade which also saw Melbourne part ways with Fremantle-bound Luke Jackson on Monday.

Bedford shed some light on why he decided to leave Melbourne with the opportunity for more game time ultimately being the sticking point.

"It was quite a big decision for me and it was pretty tough to leave the Demons," Bedford said. "I had been there for four seasons and I have got great mates and made great relationships with the entire coaching staff as well. "It was a pretty tough decision but ultimately I think the move to GWS will be good for me and hopefully kick-start my career a bit more. "We had some big chats throughout the year (to stay at Melbourne) and I think they were pretty keen (for Bedford to stay). "But I think the decision to go to GWS was just more about kick-starting my career and getting the most out of myself in the AFL."

  • Demonland changed the title to Farewell Toby Bedford

While I'm rolling ...

I was standing on a corner in Sydney Olympic Park
Such a fine sight to see
It's a Dee my lord, name of Toby Bedford
Slowing down to take a look at me
Come on Toby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet speed is gonna save me
The Dees will lose and we will win
We'll never do such a deal again
The first player we've ever traded in
Take it easy

You have the example of Freo desperately denying that Lobb will be traded; they just want to get the Jackson deal done first so they can keep whatever they get for Lobb for themselves instead of being forced to include it for us.

Bastards. I didn’t think they’d get quite so much for Lobb.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
