Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

To anyone who has watched JVR closely, is he ready to be promoted to the seniors or does he still need to further develop before marking the senior’s?

Haven't seen him play at all hence the question.

Needs a bigger body but christ he reminds me of David Schwarz in his movement.

A big THANKS to all posters who replied, it’s greatly appreciated.

Seems like we have a very good player so hopefully we see him in the seniors next yr.

Thanks again and GO DEES.

Interesting ruck conundrum today.

Bell (a recent Casey addition) against two AFL seasoned rucks including one in Stefan Martin who "was" highly rated.

Rucks had basically no impact.

No wonder players like LJ are sought after

No impact do ruckman have….well English for the bulldogs absolutely belted Gawn and Jackson….tonight….English had the most impact on the game tonight in my opinion.

I saw Blake Howes had 19 disposals for his first game in months.

Can someone give a rundown of his game. I would like to think that's pretty impressive numbers for a young kid who's missed a lot of footy.

I was very surprised when I read his numbers.  I watched the game (TV) and didn’t think he did that much. Thought he had an okay game, especially given his long lay off, but nothing like what is suggested by those stats.

Given the lack of height on the list should MFC draft Bell and Ellison for next season. Ellison impresses me as a key position player and Bell could develop especially if LJ goes.

My thoughts (from TV) on those who seemed to be around the mark for senior selection:

Bowey an excellent game where his class shone through.  On that performance, would be pushing hard for a senior return.
Chandler was good.  I haven’t been a fan, but 4 goals to back up his recent returns, must put him very close to earning another opportunity.
JVR was solid in conditions that didn’t suit. His competitiveness, willingness to put his body on the line, and bring others into the play, are all attributes we currently don’t have forward of centre in the ‘ones’. Low possessions, but didn’t do his chances any harm.
Lawrie just okay in conditions that I thought should have suited him.  Was hoping for more based on recent form.
Dunstan is the obvious replacement if we need a big bodied mid in the ‘ones’, but ball use will always be his problem.
Hunt was solid and showed good run / carry on a few occasions.  Probably enjoyed the freedom of not having a ‘lock down’ role.
Turner did his job capably after a month on the sidelines.  A very slim possibility to travel to Perth if Lever doesn’t get up, but probably needs another run.

You cannot be serious ?  Ellison started really well but has struggled the last month and Bell is barely at VFL reserves standard.

He can't kick, mark or handball so yes lets draft him.

DOG-TIED by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons were extended early against rivals Footscray VFL in their matchup played in wet and greasy conditions at VU Whitten Oval on Saturday but, after establishing their authority in the second quarter, they were able to tie up their opponents at the end to maintain their undefeated run which now stands at 15.

The game began under grey threatening skies and the wet conditions turned the game into a tight slog with scoring kept down to a minimum. The Demons were held goalless against the breeze in the opening term but thanks to a Kade Chandler masterclass in attack with three clever second quarter goals out of a total of five, they held sway by half time.

There were a few threatening moments  in the third quarter but the Demons’ resilience was outstanding. They withstood the challenge and steadied by the final break and then held the home side goalless and held on to the lead for the remainder of the game to win by a comfortable 23 point margin.

The Demons’ predominance stemmed mainly from their defence which held firm from the very beginning despite the loss of Adam Tomlinson who was called upon to replace the injured Jake Lever in the Melbourne team.

Oskar Baker and Jayden Hunt dominated with the pace and strong ball handling. Jake Bowey was also in fine form and his disposal in the wet was excellent. Corey Ellison and Daniel Turner added a solid edge to the team. In the middle, Luke Dunstan and Matt Buntine were strong and Jimmy Munro’s tackling in the conditions often unsettled the Bulldogs and forced them into error.

The club’s much vaunted younger forward brigade had a more subdued outing which was understandable in the circumstances. One wonders whether last week’s bye might have affected some of the younger brigade, particularly as it appears their chances of gaining senior selection seem to dwindle with each passing week. A fortnight ago against the Cats Jacob Van Rooyen and Bailey Laurie were stars in the wet at GMHBA Stadium but the club seems determined to play established players at AFL level.

Van Rooyen kicked only one goal at Footscray but he managed to be in the play often and also helped Jack Bell out in the ruck duels. Laurie also kicked a solitary goal but had his moments as did Taj Woewodin. Blake Howes would also be satisfied with his first up effort of 20 touches after such a long lay off with injury.

With three games left before the finals, Casey is three games clear of second placed Southport. The team returns home for next week’s match up against the bottom-of-the-ladder Northern Bullants before their last bye of the season.

Notice that Baker ended up with 121 deam points ( sounds like B.S ) , so why do some Demonlanders want him delisted ?

Perhaps he needs to play in a different position to enhance his chance for senior selection .

I wouldn't be too critical of bell.

Yes, he can be clumsy but not uncommon with his height. I think continual improvement is happening and I don't think you can fault his application.

He is not AFL standard yet, but may be in future imo.

Baker accumulates possessions in positions on the ground that don't hurt the opposition. At AFL level he'd be ignored by his teammates. He also took some kick-ins after a point, where he moved outside of the goal square and is credited with a possession. His decision making with the ball is poor.

This year he's been moved from the wing to half back. We have heaps of depth in that position, and Baker sits on the bottom of the depth chart.

By all means keep him at Casey once he's been delisted. His big body helps the youngsters.

Diasgree 100% Martin was outstanding and the main reason that the Dogs were in the game for so long was their ruck dominance.  The Adelaide game the Dees played also was an example of no ruck creating a huge headache for us - even though we sharked well.

Thats nonsense.  For some reason the BT have put a line through Baker & have ignored him despite excellent form at Casey & being a player with genuine speed.

He was given one game last year & despite 15 touches was then dropped.

Baker, Dunstan & Chandler should have all been given more opportunities this year when Spargo, Jordon& ANB have played poorly.

I predict he will go to another club & play senior football.

Like a lot of these young Vic players coming out of TAC - he gets a lot of it, but doesn't do much with it/hurt you.  Of the youngsters McVee looked more accomplished with less of it.

Baker was great in providing an outlet from defenders in d50 "the Langdon/Jordon" role. He played this very well and was running all day hunting ball.  He is criminally underrated here on DL.

He's very much ready - i've been thinking about pulling together a highlights package for people here on DL so they can see what is getting a lot of us regular Casey watchers very excited about him.  He's a brief summary of some of things that he did on the weekend which were really exciting:

1. Strong physical tackling, repeat efforts - was unlucky not to have HTB paid on one occasion, narrowly missed another.  He's a great tackler.

2. Ground ball gets, he's better below his feet than Weideman

3. He's competitive, angry and hungry - he slapped the ground really hard when he missed what would have been a 1% tackle.

4. He's physically strong under the ball - he took a match sealing mark where he basically threw the player off and stood his ground.

5. He's splitting contests to advantage, he crashed a pack and hit the ball to advantahge of chandler to a goal.  He rarely is getting outmarked.

6. His engine, he's rucking and roving all around the ground showing a good engine.

He's ready for debut - but because of our team - he won't play AFL this year.

I thought he was just shaded by Chandler as BOG.

Killed us in the ruck and was super around the grounds in conditions that didn't suit.

Nice mark and goal too.

Looked in good nick.

There is no way Baker gets picked up by another club. And to say that Jordon has played poorly is garbage. Spargo and ANB are forwards that apply pressure. Baker doesn't provide that at VFL level.

The reason Baker got shuffled to the back line is because our Football Dept have high hopes on Blakes Howes as a wingman.

Baker is certain to be delisted.

Baker played well against the Dogs, and was clearly in the best. But his stat line was inflated by junk time disposals in the last qtr.

My assessment of Baker is based on both this season and last. I thought he was a prospect when he first arrived. But now I can understand why he's not in contention for senior selection. Yes he provides an outlet, but his decision making is poor.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
