Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We need to wear our normal jumper this week

Geez this is some pure tripe.

No it’s not. There was a time in football when the jumper was sacrosanct. It represented the club. Remember how we felt about clash jumpers? Some of us have absolutely no issue with an indigenous jumper for the Doug Nicholls Round, but feel as though this is overkill. It looks like a Footscray jumper.

Was that back when we had a single red line running down the middle of the jumper? Or when we had just a red collar? Maybe it was when we had the horizontal stripe? Oh wait, you probably mean the royal blue one?

Wish game day would hurry up.

I'd be completely shocked if were not wearing the indigenous design this week. Playing in Alice seems like a very appropriate move.

The jumper has no effect on the result. Continuing to wear the indigenous design as/when appropriate shows that our clubs commitment to reconciliation is league leading - the majority make a token gesture for 1 round only.

Seriously, a loss really brings out the worst in Demonland.

Wearing the jumper in Sir Doug Nicholls Round, NAIDOC week and a game in the NT all make sense. If you want to complain, complain about our NT game not being scheduled in Sir Doug Nicholls Round or NAIDOC week.

But remember of course that the jumper we wear has literally zero impact on our performance. Literally zero.

No issue with the jumper. Can't get over the fact we are playing a home game in Alice this late in the season with top 4 on the table. Carlton, Collingwood, Geelong, Brisbane, Freo all ending the season in normal climates and fixtures and we are travelling all over the country.

Seriously either do this [censored] early in the season or not at all. I don't give a [censored] what it generates for us financially and I really don't care for the feel good PR component anymore. Great for the community in Round 18 is just as great for the community in Round 10.

This is a more pertinent topic.

Post-bye we only play consecutive games in the same STATE, let alone venue, once (Rounds 21-22 at the G).

Geelong, meanwhile, play more games in Geelong in the last 8 games than they do in their first 14.

It feels like this happens every year. Our back half/third is loaded with travel and movement, whilst other clubs seem to get runs of games at home.

I seem to recall us previously requesting (or at least claiming to have requested) lots of home and MCG games in the first half of the year to help us build momentum on and off the field.

This year's indigenous jumper isn't my favourite of all the art works/designs we've adopted, but I do like certain aspects of the design that I hope we will retain: Mindi the devil snake in particular!

From a design perspective, the white and black Bunjil (wedge tailed eagle) is what I think throws the balance off a bit. And I think that if that image was in red and blue people would get around it much more.

Here is all of the designs we've had if anyone is interested:

http://www.footyjumpers.com/melbourneindig.htm

We've stated in our RAP that "our vision for reconciliation is to unite Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with non-Indigenous people through the game of AFL". This doesn't just mean once a year.

If wearing an indigenous art designed jumper 4 times is a method of helping bring those groups of people together, then that's a good thing.

If non-indigenous people think "it's too much" or "I just want our old jumper back" then perhaps they are the people who the club are patiently leading, by taking them on the journey they have identified with the indigenous community in development of the RAP. It's also possible they'll never be convinced, but the representation and visibility matters, and it will have a positive impact on the next generation coming along regardless of some people holding out.

So, everyone is free to dislike the particular artistic design (although as something we have commissioned and chosen and has meaning this is lightyears away from the forced clash jumpers of the past). But the concept and frequency? In a week where NSW announced it was taking it's flag off the harbour bridge, and a year where the VicGov is progressing a treaty and the federal government is making strides too, this isn't going anywhere.

I just wish the game wasn’t played in Darwin. Port will have a bigger contingent of Supporters than us.
We have to stop this selling home ground advantage for cash.
We are not battling to find sponsors anymore

I’m glad we discuss the important issues on DL

not my favourite guernsey but I think we should be wearing it given the game is in Alice. Just hope we can get the win. My confidence is starting to ebb.

Why is the the top blue and the bottom red ? Why did we completely inverse the colours? That’s my issue with this year’s design. It also is littered with white. I remember the club making a massive hoo haa about the logo and how it didn’t feature any white, because we don’t wear white. So not sure why this jumper featured so much white. Wear it, don’t wear it. I don’t care. Just win the game. It still is not the best designed junper we have had though.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

We'll definitely be wearing it again this week but it's a Bulldogs looking jumper. Just when you thought the Hawks jumper was shocking they pull out an even uglier one. I love the indigenous jumpers normally but this one ain't one of my favourites.

The AFL messed up the fixture badly.  We played Freo in Melb during the Sir Douglas Nicholls fortnight.  That game should have been in Alice.  It should have been a prime time fixture not a Sunday afternoon.

It was the best and most respectful time to wear the jumper and also at a more sensible time re the season

I wasn't sure if this was done due to it being colder in July, but you're right - should have been in the Sir Douglas Nicholls round.

Good to get back to superstition and mysticism 16 games after a flag.

It's so weird posters keep claiming people are linking performance to the jumper. By my count only one comment has done this over two pages.

Only one such comment, but implied by many others. Why else the resistance to this jumper? Surely not merely aesthetics?!

I don’t like the indigenous round jumper, far too busy! However if they wear it in Alice Springs it certainly won’t harm our relationship with the indigenous population and that can’t be bad for the club.                              And I notice that it’s been quite cold up there in recent days, getting down to -2 overnight and just a degree or two warmer than Melbourne during the day so at least they shouldn’t suffer from heat stroke!

We must wear it in Alice, it's a no brainer. Any inconveniences or personal taste issues are outweighed by the gesture itself.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
