Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Paul Salmon says Hi, played mainly ruck but turned into a pretty good Key Forward late in his career!

Salmon was a great kick for goal and his technique was significantly better than Max's - not saying he was a better player but no comparison when it comes to goal kicking - It is an area that Max really needs to work on if the plan is to have him spend more time in the F50

I’m not overly keen on Grundy. We have the best ruck in the league. So we’re relying on them to kick a fair amount of goals between them for this to work. 30 minimum surely. Our forward line was dysfunctional this year so how does that improve by brining in another ruckman?
If he comes in for a second rounder and with us only paying 600k it makes it easier to take. But we really don’t need him. I’m saying all this I’m 99% sure we’ll get him.

I think the bigger worry is his recent injury history. Had a knee and almost immediately a serious ankle injury this season.

Fronting up next year he'll be 29. Many players are done at 30, especially collision players like ruckmen and key forwards.

With that said, he is a smart guy and will have looked after himself.

A five year salary dump may not be in our interests.

I just don’t think Gawn is turning into Paul Salmon. However he is a 6 x AA ruck. Maybe he should just be our number one ruck.

Gawn, like all our key forwards will be able to better isolate opponents once we get a 3rd competitive tall in the forward line. Tmac if he returns, JVR if he is ready,  or Petty if he is freed to.move forward

Filth Supporters wanting a first round pick!!!

We were not the ones to draw up a Ludicrous Contract, so they should take what we give them.
it was interesting listening to Goody on 360 last night, he was adamant that they have a plan for Grundy

Me thinks the MFC will look quite a bit different next year

It’s a Salary Dump. They should be thankful for any deal at all. He hasn’t played since April

Ideally, I’d just like us to say no, then the filth will have to deal with their own problems.

I would agree with you, but i get the impression Goodwin has a plan, so i am also curious to see it

i am hoping The Filth pay more than $300,000 a year, Maybe Eddie could chip in. This disaster was all under his Presidency

One thing i think the Melbourne coaching staff are considering is the fact there is a big chance that the bench goes to 5 next year.

meaning you could play 2 rucks 3 mids and a key position/swingman on the bench.

meaning we could possibly have the two best rucks in the comp, going 50% ruck time at 100% capacity or close too.

This is my Theory.

Also Grundy is not injury prone at all has not missed many games in 10 years.  and how many ruckman in the league have had knee recons and come back, as well as key fwds.

If my theory is correct it could prolong Gawn and Grundy's careers by a few years, which good rucks go on into their 30s

No chance

They reduced interchange numbers and got blindsided by the abuse of the medi sub

its most defiantly a chance, none of the coaches wanted a Medi sub, they actually wanted an extra spot.  The AFL want to continually decrease interchange.  So it will be a compromise.  The coaches get the extra player they want and the AFL gets less rotations(same rotations but an extra player) which means the game opens up.

This is the first I've read anything about the possibility of a 5 man bench next year. Has it been reported or speculated on in the media or is this an educated guess on your part?

Educated guess, has been in the media too.

the coaches were very [censored] with the sub rule when it came in.

and the AFL have been open about wanting less rotation to open the game up.  A lot of media have talked about it as something that will happen but as to when is the unsure aspect.

Our carpet bomb the forward line gameplan still has a major chance of winning us a flag (Or 2) I think, I've come around to this more since Collingwood and Brisbane failed spectacularly on the weekend and the raw emotion of not making a prelim has died down.

So Grundy will fit in nicely if the idea to improve on 2022 is to increase the quantity of wins in stoppages, clearances and inside 50's to build bigger leads, whether the forward line is fixed or not. The quality of entries won't have as much to do with Grundy as it will our mids and forwards, when he's rucking.

If we do improve the forward line mix, Max and tracc work on their goalkicking. Grundy has an off-season of work on fitness and contested marking, then hopefully everything should culminate in us being at the pointy end next year.

The 'learnings' from this year about managing our fitness and injuries should aid in us not burning out so early too.

My small victorian team victim complex has really kicked into gear while listening to media pundits (Sam Edmund etc) just say 'it will get done for a 1st round pick' like that's objectively the right/only deal that can occur. They'll never go into bat for us getting a better deal and will try and  "will" the best deal possible for Collingwood, into existence.

Also if it is a Future 1st, I want a swap of Collingwoods future 2nd. Let's tell them to gamble on themselves and their self belief - or will they be too afraid that it will end up early pick 20's if their [censored] falls out from under them next year?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
