Welcome to Demonland Brodie Grundy

Alright .... now hear me out.

If we were to hypothetically lose Luke Jackson, and the MFC could convince Collingwood to pay part of the salary. Does this sound as stupid as it sounds to enquire about Grundy to play alongside Gawn?

yeah... you are right it's stupid. 🤔

For me doesn't do enough to warrant such a salary,  They would want a club to pay at least $700k of a $1.2 million a year contract, Collingwood have just worked out they have been dudded once again.😂

Had one good season in a contract year and Collingwood as they tend to do are paying overs for players who don't deserve it.

Collingwood have no payment structure whatsoever. That's why continually find themselves under salary cap pressure.

He's 28 years old, will be 29 early next season. He does not have a marking presence and has not been effective up forward. He can only play number 1 ruck and he's on over a million bucks a year for another 5 years.

He doesn't fit our age demographic and would retire not long after Gawn. We need Gawn's replacement to be younger than Grundy, otherwise he is a very expensive stop-gap. If he had a presence up forward like Lobb or Marshall type, then I'd consider it. As he doesn't, I'd avoid and look for younger, cheaper, more suitable options.

it’s a No from me

too many $$$ and wouldn’t fit in as our 2nd ruckman to Gawn

No forward craft

aim for Haydn McLean from the Swans.  Affordable cheaper dollars and can play as 2nd ruck or key size strong forward … and is gettable

Haydn McLean is the one for me as well Spirit, he has great hands, is a big bugger and would be cheap.

The only time Gawn and Grundy on the same list would be a good idea is in Supercoach, and even then it wouldn't work if they were at the same club.

Most Urgent: Big bodied forward-ruck to support Gawn and any successor. (Like others, I lean to McLean)

Most important: True long-term successor for Gawn.

Would be a real tragedy to lose Jackson given how well he fits our needs, but the trade value and salary cap space would likely get us through the distress.

Grundy is the Best Ruck in the league after Max.  but it is way to much to pay for a 28yo second ruck.

Geelong and Essendon should be throwing the kitchen sink at him if they have any brains.

Grundy lobb or tex

I think we end up with one of them if Jackson departs

We will have 700 in the kitty and that's probably where it ends up. Grundy would need the Pies to pay 300 of his salary to get him off their books - or take a smaller cheque to come here with promise of being in contention

Why would the Pies need to pay Sideshow...to pay out his existing contract?

Yep - he's on $1m a year. Noone is going to pay that - if they want 700k of that back they pay 300 of his contract - same as what they had to do to get treloar off their books

The fact that he's now behind Mason Cox in the pecking order tells me all I need to know.

But he's not behind Cox though..

He's out with a long term injury. Had he not be injured Cox would be playing VFL and taking calls from suburban clubs for next year.

Grundy is 20 x the player Cox is.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for clarifying dazzle.

POINT WELL MADE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons had a number of points to make to themselves, their opponents and the VFL football world when they traveled up to the Gold Coast to take on the Southport Sharks in the 2022 Grand Final rematch at Fankhauser Reserve.  After living off the glory of an almost perfect premiership, the Demons stumbled after winning the opening four games of the season and have struggled in their recent northern state sojourns - their only loss in 2022 came at the hands of the Lions in Brisbane a

BLUES FREE FOOTY by George on the Outer

Long time supporters would be all too familiar with the call “free kick, Hawthorn”, as umpires seemed to gift certain teams an inordinate amount of free kicks in the game. Similarly, in the Melbourne v Carlton game a 22 to 13 free kick count, was grossly out of place given the dominance of Melbourne in just about every other statistic for the game.   However, for the Blues with only 4½ wins from their 12 games, their season is rapidly heading the same way as Hawthorn, despite all the help t

The Blues season is on the line and their captain and coach have been in the firing line all week. If the Dees cough this one up the media's crosshairs will do a 180 and will surely be directed at the Demons who have only won 13 games from their last 25 outings. This is a must win game for the Melbourne Football Club too.

WRITING ON THE WALL by Whispering Jack

The Narrm Football Club found a second way in the space of 12 months less a day to unexpectedly lose a home game against Walyalup on Saturday afternoon. The equivalent match of last year has been described as Melbourne’s “ground zero” of 2022 where things went wrong for the club after a long run of wins that included its 57 year drought-breaking premiership triumph. Unfortunately for the Demons, the 2023 version was a case of deja vu with the Dockers overcoming a half time deficit and runn
