Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hope so! Just know, at least under Mahoney, we were always just kinda 'no fuss' it seemed.

Could be lots to play out before the Jackson deal which will change/add picks, especially for Freo.

Your scenario would also fit what I was told by someone close to the Pies, who said that they would be definitely wanting a 1st. That was a while ago, and  I haven’t talked to them again, so the pick in the 20’s & swaps I mentioned is just a guess really

Would guess it would be more complicated than we can be bothered going into as well. Pick swaps, future picks, salary percentage etc could be all part of the negotiations I imagine.

Layzie going on past scenarios I would be gobsmacked if we haven’t already reviewed his medical status prior to meeting with him, particularly if we are in serious discussions with Pies which would appear to be the case. As the old saying goes we aren’t going to spend $3.5m over 5 years on a “pig in a poke”. So to speak.

Do you reckon it's the kind of info that is easily accessible? I only ask because in the EPL and other Soccer leagues transfers are always made pending a medical assessment. Would love to know a bit more about how it all works here when players are being courted.

Agree layzie I would love to see some input from Binman, Dazzle or posters that are close to the footy scene to provide a bit of insight to the formal process.

Medical checks are made as part of or prior to the trade period. The actual trade has to be final and unconditional by the end of the trade period.

Bulldogs and Pies were given leeway on salary details and we saw how that turned out

It's up to the player as to whether he agrees to a medical check but one would think it unusualto refuse.

No reason that tests are limited to physical checks. Saints could ask DeGoey for a psychiatric test but I suspect he'd say no.

de Goey has signed on at the Filfth for another five years. Zero chance now Grundy doesn’t come to us.

"Bro dees delight"

I wonder what would happen if Grundy/Dees last minute decided there little courtship/fling wouldn't go any further and we were to go our seperate ways.

Would that mean the pies would have to ditch McStay and a couple others they've been linked to?  There salary cap would be bulging I'd imagine.

Max does get sharked a lot by the opposition.

For the quality of our midfield we don't the maximum advantage IMO

Finally, does anyone know, with certainly, the nature of the injury / injuries that killed his 2022, and their current status and prognosis? Surely this is the most important issue right now?

Two separate injuries. Ankle and leg. Not chronic. Will be starting preseason untroubled.

Now that De Goey has signed on, we should drive a hard bargain for Grundy’s services, knowing that they can’t afford to keep him and that he only wants to come to us.

But instead we’ll play nice 🤮

Media reports are that they need Grundy's money out of the cap to fit in Tom Mitchell even with Hawks paying part of Mitchell's 2023 contract.

Fingers crossed that result is we give up a 2nd rounder at worst and Pies pay $300K a year of his contract.

Agree that we should be pushing to make sure we don't get screwed, but every time we 'play nice' and make it smooth for a player to come to us, or to leave us, it makes us that little bit more desirable for other players to come our way.

A lot of young key forwards would be thinking they could make their mark at Melbourne as the missing piece, and we want them having a warm fuzzy feeling any time they think of us!

What if we now say that we’ve gone cool on the idea!! Imagine the magpie panic !! They’ve committed to DEGOEY and MCSTAY. I think Dees will drive a tough deal. No first round draft pick conversation to be had. It’s Grundy for pick 32 and Pies pay 1/3 of his contract for the next 5 years (aka salary dump $600k a year on us).

Of course, I’m still puzzled how the Grundy-Gawn combo works. Lots to work through. Some strategies are a real rotation and a forward-half back-half zone type strategy is mooted. Maybe Maxy is struggling with an injury and needs real support for ongoing physical relief.  Not sure.

100%

If the Dees make you a pitch and you think it would be a great place to play your footy, we have a reputation among players and managers that we will make that deal happen quickly and painlessly. It makes it easy to decide to switch and easy to buy in to a club that demonstrates that it will act in your best interests.

Max can provide some amazing silver service in the ruck. But on the whole I don’t think we capitalise on his time in the middle as much as we should.

His marking around the ground is a real weapon (when not 1 on 5). So my guess would be Grundy more time ruck, Max a combination of forward and copying Geel strategy this year of ruckman pushing back to increase the chances of an intercept mark.

Two other advantages I can see are

1) We would really capitalise when the main oppo ruckman is having a rest, and coming up against the part-timer

2) We would have great match-up flexibility to switch Max & Grundy ruck/back/fwd depending on the opponent and their weaknesses/strengths

So considering pies are asking for a first round pick, we will have to split our Jackson first round pick to get Grundy. I for the life of me can't see any good in going after Grundy. It weakens our draft hand and ties us to an expensive 29yo on a long contract. An utterly bizarre pick up unless goodwin thinks if we continue to bomb down the line to gawn resting forward, it will be more effective that when we did that this year with Jackson rucking. It doesn't work and won't work again.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
