Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think we really need to commit to using players who at the very least are going to be on our list next year. Whether that is Weid and Dunstan or LVR and Laurie.

Far be it from me to criticise Goody and co's selections, but I think I speak for most people when I say the time for selecting M. Brown and Melksham over players with longer term futures at the club is just about over.

No disrespect to those two however - they've been great servants of the club and in their own ways have contributed to the success we are seeing now.

If either if these players win us games, then they should be selected.  They are on our list this year to help us win the flag.  We dont need to blood players unnecessarily, or hold out players because they wont be around next year.  We just have to pick the best team from who we have, reward performance and effort.

Fair point. Perhaps I was being a bit simplistic about it. Obviously if they are the best players for a particular role, they should be in regardless of their playing futures (as you point out).

I guess my thinking came more down to these two players in particular - in that I think for the roles that they would be bought in to play, that there are players that would bring just as much but have a longer term future at the club and would benefit from a good run at it.

Having said that it is easy for me to sit here and presume that other players would deliver more. Clearly if Goody and co choose to play one or both of them, they believe that they are the best players to come in.

Lycett out for Port.

"Lycett, who had surgery in April after dislocating his shoulder against the Demons in round four, played his first game back in the SANFL at the weekend.  After running the game out strongly, the 29-year-old felt soreness in his shoulder on Sunday night and has since showed signs of an infection".

Should we consider giving Gawn or Jackson a week off if either is still hampered by their recent injury?

Kudos DC for respectfully acknowledging Mitch and Jake’s contributions. Much more “classy” than the derogatory  use of acronyms such as ‘NQR’ and that other crudely agricultural term ‘spud’ some folk self-indulge in.

As a watcher of proceedings both Melbourne and Casey Demons albeit from afar. There are plenty of reasons to be enthusiastic and optimistic about future of the club. Membership is at an all time high, both teams presently hold high ladder positions late in the season and our roster of players is largely youthful and talented. The coaching group is experienced and definitely has the runs on the board. The administration is resourceful and the financial position is sound.

No two seasons are going to be exactly the same. It is unrealistic to believe given the quality of opponents and length of the season, that 2022 will a cakewalk to the Grand Final. There are a range of seemingly imponderable factors such as form, injuries, collective belief and determination that must be taken into account. Much simpler to dissect with hindsight though than foresight.

Whatever will occur in the remainder of the season is in the lap of the football gods, but we will be applauding the triumphs and commiserating the losses. Fingers crossed for more of the former.

* postscript both the aforementioned players have experience and smarts maybe there will be a twist in     the tale?

Firstly thank goodness for that out.

Secondly, yeah probably, if they are still really battling fitness that is, if they're 95% they've probably gotta play.

reckon we want to get them both back into form so play them if no risk.

Not having Lycett barrel into them both is definately a positive!

In 2017 many Richmond fans were furious that the players had to wear that hideous canary yellow strip. At the time I thought they should just be happy that they made it to the GF and were potentially gonna break a 37-year premiership drought (spoiler alert: they did). And that was for a GF. Surely for a H&A match the players’ attire isn’t a pressing matter.

Without being in the inner sanctum.

I’d be dropping.

Bedford & Bowey for Rivers & Van Rooyen.

🤞🏻 Oliver gets up. If not Dunstan in.

Laurie the emergency.

If you mean Laurie to be an emergency, fine. If you mean Laurie to be the sub, no way. It's disrespectful to any player to play his inaugural game as the sub. And I seem to recall the club has already said that it won't select a first-gamer as the sub.

AGREE

Bedford has real talent; he just needs some confidence - perhaps a little more grunt and mongrel at the ball will assist in this regard - he is fast, he is lethal going goalward, he has an eye for an opportunity, he blends with others well - usually on the outside or in space. If you do not play him with some consistency, he is going to wither on the 'tried that' vine at the Demons. Play him against Port.

Surely it depends on "health fitness" vs "match fitness" - the only way to gain the latter is in a match.

I like this, but would bring in Hunt in lieu of Rivers, at this stage.

Wouldn’t  be dropping Toby for an Alice Springs game.

It would be such a big moment for him. No doubt his mob would be making the trip from Halls Creek.

Laurie should be rewarded based on form though. Spargo also had a bit of a stinker too though so maybe that's the change.

Make Bedford sub and they can still come.

I'd argue that the 2017 flag made that jumper more popular with Tigers fans! Much like how for most of us Optus Stadium will now always have a place in our hearts!

Changes with Oliver confirmed out-

Out- Oliver, Bedford, Bowey, Sparrow

In- Hunt, Rivers, JVR, Chandler

Salem to go into the midfield also Chandler rotate between mid/forward.

Laurie is behind Chandler on stringing good games together.

Agree. If Oliver played, you could be sure the Port players would be wacking his hand (thumb) all game. Get him cherry ripe and sound of thumb.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
