Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2019 draft: Geelong trade pick 27 for GC mid first round free pick.

2020 trade period: Geelong trade 3 first rounders  (2 of them barely) to GWS for Jeremy Cameron, including the GC pick (by this stage pick 15)

2020 draft: Geelong trade a future first for Max Holmes, stealing him from us. They wouldn’t have had a future first if they used it in the GWS trade. Ie. The suns trade the year previous freed up that pick

2021 trade: Cats trade for pick 7. Demons unable to trade up from pick 13 for what would’ve been an excellent target pick

In other words, the GC got benefits. The GC gave those benefits to the Cats. The Cats screw us.

2021 prelim: Melbourne smash the Cats by an incredible 83 points and make them look like little puddy cats.

In a trade we paid fair value for, not in a deal that was based upon our CEO dishing up free picks to the Suns in his former job

Can someone explain the Bowes deal to me? I know Geelong are doing the Suns a favour by taking on the contract, by why is there such a high pick thrown in??

Bowes isn't a spud so how on earth is it so heavily weighted in the Cats favour?

It really does seem like a case of the rich getting richer and massively unfair for the rest of the comp.

Geelong effectively purchased pick 7.

Maybe. But we got a Demon God out of that deal.

Might be time to build a bridge people…

Compare the pair:

JHF 1st year average mid = Pick 3 and a future first

Luke Jackson top flight ruck, premiership player, rising star= Pick 13 Future first, future second

I know pick 1 was involved and 2+ 40+43 doesn’t make up all of that but FMD.

Jackson - top flight?

JHF - average?

Wow. I must have been watching the comp in a parallel universe in 2022.

Of course if Melbourne got that deal I would be over the moon, but the reality is that this is a one sided trade and makes a mockery of the draft, trade week and list management practices.

You can't just throw away top 10 draft picks because you overcooked your books and need to get rid of contracted players.

I am the first person to get annoyed at players holding clubs over a barrel, but likewise you can't commit to players for long term on big dollars, then go "oh noes" and then do a stupid deal to dump them.

It's akin to Melbourne going "soz Oliver we can't honour your 7 year deal... please go to Geelong and we will give Geelong pick 7 as well". WTF?!

One - Suns are recalibrating player payments to allow for increased contracts for some of their young stars and attracting recruits.

Two  - Bowes is on 800K a year for 23/24 because of ill thought through backending. If they want his money out of the cap he is contracted so he chooses the destination club.

Three - The Pick 7 is price for taking on the bad contract in full.

Similar to Dees only paying Pick 27 for Grundy and not taking on his full contract.

Why can't you?

You stuff up, want to fix it and throw in a pick with a player, to get rid of him and his contract. The only reason we are all excited is because it is a high pick. We have seen player and pick swaps before. The only difference here is that it's pick 7.

BTW, Grundy says hello.

Four: Gold Coast are incompetent. Rather than split pick 7 and send Bowes to market, possibly with a 200k wiped off his wage they offer pick 7 straight up.

Essendon, North, Hawthorn are desperate  for high picks. Desperate. They’d do exactly what Geelong have done with the contract for a far lesser pick.

The Suns could’ve split pick 7 and to 2 picks in the teens and used 2 picks to dump 2 players they didn’t like and saved even more money.

But Gold Coast are just ordinary and don’t seem to be getting any better at managing their list. Even as their team improves and matures they seem keen to make more mistakes.

Even if they didn’t split the pick The Suns also should’ve said we’re only dealing with Essendon or Hawthorn. Giving Geelong a leg up hurts them as well as the rest of the comp.

Can just about rule out the Suns taking Jhye Clark with pick 5 in the draft. They’d may as well trade him on draft night.

I thought the draft and the order, was about equalising the talent across the competition. I want closer games not blow outs.

Destination clubs are effecting the balance.

Management,  of the club lists and player renumeration need to be done better, so as to get fair compensation and teams high on the ladder shouldn't get a leg up.

The clubs down the ladder may stay there for several season if the AFL allows the "poaching" of picks and players.

Geelong have to be happy, as are us.

North, Gold coast, wow!

Ok, name how many AFL ruckmen you would pick before Jackson then name how many AFL mids you would have before JHF.
For me, there’s at most five rucks I’d pick before Jackson (Gawn, Witts, Darcy, Hickey, Stanley) there’s a HUGE number of mids I’d pick before JHF (Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Dangerfield, Neale, Bontempelli, Liberatore, Treloar, Boak, Wines, Parker, Warner, Crisp, Miller, Rowell, Anderson, Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewitt, Kennedy, Brayshaw, Serong, Laird, Keays, Taranto, Hopper, Martin, Cunnington, the list goes on.)

JHF May become a top mid, he may not, Jackson is a top ruck right now. His games against Brisbane mid season and Gold Coast early were better than anything JHF did all year. Not to mention how he went in the 2021 GF. He’s streets ahead in a position that’s harder to fill.

Premiership teams are built around midfields, not ruckmen. You left out Nankervis who is a triple premiership ruckman. Dogs won a flag with Jordon Roughead as their no.1 ruck. When we flogged the Cats in 2021, Stanley was considered a dud. Hickey is a journeyman. Witts was a discard.

Jackson is not a top flight ruckman yet. He may be in the future. But I'd guarantee that JHF will be a very good/gun midfielder.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
