Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hunter would be a nice addition, compliments our midfield group nicely.

Doesn't have the speed although he's an elite runner but has great composure and use by hand and foot which is the main thing IMO. Hits great kicks that open up play and his release handballs are fantastic.

Could be a solid opposite Wing to Langdon.

Agree.

I don't care about his leg speed - he is an excellent kick, which is what we really need. And is a reliable set shot, so can play the rotating half forward mid chop out role.

If Salem can get back to his best, Bowey comes back in and we snare Hunter, then suddenly our kicking skills looks a lot better.

Funny, I think he is quicker than you suggest and a bit of a butcher by foot.

That said, he is true winger and left footer, which helps. He is also pretty tough.

He's good kick in terms of hitting short and medium targets, which is critical because when those kicks are turned over it often gift the oppo a scoring opportunity - and of course our potential scoring chain is broken.

The shocking turnover by may on the HB against the swans in the semi is the perfect example - we went from controlling the ball (and the game for that matter) and looking to transition and create a scoring chain, to gifting them a goal (and arguablly the game).

I agree being a left footer helps. Good left footers so often get gifted space to release the ball.

Is it Hunter wanting out or is it the Digs pushing?

Didn’t he have some time away from the game earlier this year?

I have a Bulldog's friend who is an excellent judge of football and Hunter is his whipping boy for his kicking.

I hope if we get Hunter that we play our wingers so they on their preferred side towards the boundary. Langdon kicks a lot out on the full on his left side. Hunter is not a defensive wingman, so we would need to adjust our game plan to be more willing to attack along both wings.

Agreed. I wonder if they'll try and play Fritsch higher across half forward, which allows him to double back and follow the mids, and use his natural goal sense.

Salem, Bowey, Hunter, Fritsch and Spargo all good kicks.

That's interesting.

it can be easy to over rate oppo players when you only watch them sporadically.

Disposal efficiency is not the most useful stat and arguably nor is clangers, in terms off assessing foot skills as there are lots of intersecting variables - for example a mid like Viney who gets most of their kicks under pressure might have poor DE and high clangers.

That said i compared Salm and Hunter over their career (quite comparable as Hunter was drafted the year before Salem) and these were the effective disposal per game, DE and clangers numbers (Hunter is on the left)

17.4 Effective Disposals 14.9
74.4% Disposal Efficiency % 74.9%
2.3 Clangers 2.4

Yeah I have worked at a couple of vfl clubs and know a couple of people who are good friends with some in the afl and the stories are shocking. Lots of money means lots of abuse on nose sugar that’s for sure. I’ve also seen a few afl players out after a game and wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve chewed all their gums from the inside of their cheeks off… pretty disturbing to look at no matter who you are.

As nothing has happened yet I think we can see a pattern developing in the list management team. While not as overt as Geelong my impression is that hit season gone we stuck with the premiership group and developed lots of new talent at Casey. With retirements and Jackson going it looks like the club are resetting and looking to back the young talent we have developed.

Clearly, they knew Jacko was going and went after Grundy! JVR is groomed to step up to a key position up forward and other players in the wings are given the option of moving. Maybe didn't see Bedford going but have noise around Hunt, Harmes, Tomlinson & Weid suggest a refresh.

The club IMO believes it is in the premiership window and is building for now hence looking at Hunter. At the same time, they are looking to store some draft picks for 2023 with their eye on kids they have been following.

A bit of long-term planning happening which isn't entirely obvious to us mere mortals

If we were after Hunter I can't see the game plan not evolving.

I think we've long identified that we could do with more good kicks on the team. And to be honest, this should be a perpetual focus of any list management for any team. Particularly, if you can combine this with the pieces we already have in place - the inside bulls that win contests in outnumbered situations.

Maybe the FD have faith that Disco is able to come in and play Petty’s role, allowing Petts to move up forward and partner with JVR?

It's a stupid question, I know but so far, I have not been able to establish who 'Disco' happens to be; not familiar with the personality, I cannot extend my aptitudes to first-name, good-mates nick-names; sadly, this is one of those blue sky conundrums for me. Could someone kindly let me know who is who? Maybe, a listing of the lingua franca for abbreviated nomenclatures could help others, as well? Over to you, kind personage.

Thank you,  TRIGON, much appreciated. I know of the player as it happens to be yet had no awareness of his 'Disco' identity. He is a fine young footballer, with very good potential. Again, many thanks - I feel better informed for your efforts. :-)

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
