Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not sure what our overall strategy is.

Tim Lamb said we're only taking two ND picks which currently makes sense with 4 out (Jackson, Bedford, Rosman, Hunt) and 2 in (Grundy and Chandler upgrade).

But we only have one useful ND pick at 27 - 54 is not a useful draft pick because we traded out earlier ones on the basis we won't use them.  27 is surely earmarked for the Grundy trade somehow.

So we're short 2 2022 ND picks.  The Jackson trade is currently only going to produce 13 and (hopefully) some future picks.  Not sure where the other 2022 ND pick is coming from?

We'd either need to get two from Freo - 13 and one via a Lobb trade with the Dogs, or trade a F1st for a 2022 pick.  The other moving part is the Bedford pick, maybe we can trade a F1st to GWS for Bedford and a 2022 1st?

A lot to play out ...

I'm pretty sure we will use our first round pick from next year (or a future first from Freo or both) to get another high pick.  Regardless of the quality of the draft I think we back our system to find the best players and then get a year of development into them.

That’s a good idea. GWS have too many early picks this year and would surely be better off backing some out until next year.

Could even get Geelong’s 2nd thrown in with 18 for Bedford and a future first.

I am starting to think the Lobb trade is holding it up.

13,30, F1, F2 (NMFC) gets it done for sure.

it’s a minimum 3500 points and could be up to 4000ish point wise.

We could then take 13, NMFC f2 , 30 to WCE for Pick 2 and end up with either Cadman or Warlord. We then have 2 picks inside 1st round next year and could again get into the top 10.

We're not getting all that unfortunately.

Absolute best we can hope for is 2 x first rounders and a 2nd (north or freo) with us giving back a future 2nd and 3rd.

Can't see how they get JHF without WCE pick 2 involved.

For them to expect to get him and Junior Rioli for pick 8 and a F1 is a joke I would have thought they are ok for pick 2 but not with Rioli  included.

They need to put up something/someone else

4 hours ago, Demonland said:

I don't blame them.  They owe Rioli nothing.

If they are giving him away for free in the Port trade of pick 8 and a F1 for Rioli and Pick 2 then let him go to the psd.  They will have lost nothing.

It is one time where the losing club doesn't miss out on anything.

This Bowes trade really annoys me. This one isn't just a case of a local boy wanting to go home and taking unders to go to a media darling 'well run club'. This is a player that comes with a salary dump and is going to the one club that should not be able to afford it given its recent big signings and other players being brought in this year. Something stinks and eventually someone will talk. There is no way in my mind they are not cheating the salary cap and I've thought this for a number of years, but if they of all clubs can absorb the salary dump then something is rotten in Denmark!! How there is not more media questioning and scrutiny is beyond me.

To be fair they’re a smart club. Easy to do & if you get caught it proves how dumb you are & how poorly run the club is. No way anyone can prove cash in the hand, gifts etc from wealthy members, sponsors or supporters. It’s rife in the NRL to the point of sponsors donating units/houses or taking a loss on a sale of a property to players & nothing illegal about that. The house may cost say $800k to build & they will sell it for a mill to general public but do a sale for $600k to a player. They haven’t paid the player any more, but the player has cashed in on another property & got an increase on assets. Same as clubs giving players vehicles & saying they are got their use whenever they want. Player gets a car with no expenses so not getting paid any more, but receiving a benefit by reducing costs. It happens in all sports.

Alan Johnson’s performance in the ‘87 Elimination Final against the Eagles. In their very first final and our first final since ‘64 was described by coach John Northey as “Magnificent”. Justifiably so.

For those DL’s of a certain vintage most certainly an unforgettable almost legendary time with some great individual and team performances. Despite being derided as ‘ordinary’ and participating in that season’s final series by ‘default’.

If I'm WCE I'm asking for 13, Freo or Melb f1 and NM F2. With a potential future 3rd coming back to us. And even then that deal is too weighted to the future, i'd ask the Dees to trade a F1 to get a pick 8-12 this year

There's just no incentive otherwise.

ESPN FOOTY VIEW

Melbourne

List needs:

  • Classy midfielder/forward who can pass precisely to inside 50m targets

  • Ruck depth

  • Outside run and speed

Who should they target?

The major missing link for Melbourne is a classy midfielder/forward who can hit inside 50 targets reliably. 2021 Sandover Medallist, Bailey Rogerswould fill the role perfectly with his versatility to play midfield and forward and his classy skills, strong marking and ball winning capabilities a bonus. With Carlton midfielder Will Setterfield in and out of Carlton's best-22, he may be someone Melbourne could make enquiries into as a further classy midfielder who could add improved balance to the Demons midfield.

While Brodie Grundy has been heavily rumoured to be joining Melbourne, the Demons should be demanding Rory Lobb as part of any deal for Luke Jackson. While Lobb has requested a trade to Western Bulldogs, Melbourne arguably need Lobb more, not just as a ruck, but as a contested marking force close to goal and someone who does not relegate Gawn to spending most of his time forward. What makes the Lobb fit so ideal is that he is ideally suited to a relieving ruck role behind Gawn and gives the Demons the option if Gawn misses games at some point to take over as Melbourne's lead ruck.

While Bradley Hill has been linked to North Melbourne, the wide-open expanses of the MCG would suit Hill much better as it did during his tenure with Hawthorn. With Melbourne a team featuring prolific ball winners, Hill for the Demons would need to do nothing more than just be himself which makes Melbourne his ideal landing spot.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
