Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Duncan 32/33 menegola 30 and injured, touhy 32 going 33. issie smith 33 going 34. and they just slot in a 24 yo hb/mid to replace them for the next 5+ years. same deal with henry just walks into the rohan spot in 12/24 months time

Reckon this is how the Geelong dream is sold. They have a lot of positions which will be vacant through age, we have positions which will be vacant only through form.

Work harder or work smarter?

On top of resigning an injury prone Joel Smith to a 2 deal.

Go melbourne..

I wish salaries were public so I could confirm but I hope Smith, Melk and Hibbo are all in the 200k range, where Hunt as a free agent is probably getting 400k and a longer deal.

It’s worth wondering if keeping any of the 3 we are supposedly keeping is worthwhile anyway but they might be in a different salary category to Hunt.

Hopefully we see some action for at least one player in the tall forwards or outside run category so we can see the trade off in losing Hunt.

These are strange times.

We are prepared to let a 27 year old player, with pace, who has played 40 games the last 2 years leave and keep a 33 year old for one last year and a 32 year old likewise, both of whom who are probably cooked.

Moving forward, to me it makes no sense at all.

What makes you think we are prepared to let Hunt go? Unrestricted FA and seems to want to leave

Yep. I know we are on the outside looking in and we will have a better understanding today fortnight, but it does seem like we are unbalancing the list.

My concern is that we could have a lot of players who could be cooked physically or career wise next year. BBB, T Mac, Tomlinson, J.Smith, Weid, Hibbo, Melk, Grundy. On top of that we had numerous key players have leg/foot injuries this year.

If we don't get any best 22 players in aside from Grundy, we'll be relying on quite of few of our kids who have yet to debut.

Yep, despite 2 years of success, seems we can't attract more than average interest from the market place. Bit disappointing

Interesting that, unless I've missed it, our alleged "in the know" posters have gone to ground lately. Which could mean a few things.

1. We have something brewing that the club is keeping tight lipped on.

2. Outside of Grundy we have no other trade targets.

3. The posters are bored of the same old player discussion/rumour threads and view most demonland discussions as the quality of trade radio.

He is only leaving for a bigger and/or longer contract that we won't offer. Therefore we are prepared to let him go.

ATM, without knowing what we do over the next two weeks, that is a concern.

It’s his last big contract and despite being quick there’s little else and his poor decision making really gets amplified in big games.

The FD will be well aware of his limitations and only offer him what they consider he’s worth

I like it that not much is coming out of our FD. Have trust in them as they have done pretty good last few years and very confident they will do well again. Who knows a smokey may well come to the Dees other than Grundy.

I reckon we would like to keep him but we won’t be throwing our salary cap off for him

So as far I can tell:

possible outgoings:

Jackson, Hunt, Bedford, Weid plus Mitch Brown, Rosman, Majak

Possible incomings:

Grundy. 2 x picks from Freo.

I hope to god we are going to inject some new proven talent. But who and how? Good teams keep building their list, identify weakness and act on it. Are we doing that?

We've said we aren't trading Weid apparently.

We don't have many quick ball carriers which is one of the reasons for our slow ball movement out of defence. Aside from Hunt who else has the speed to run and carry out of defence. Hunt does have his weaknesses but that speed is an asset we don't have much of in our defence,

Bedford would be a loss for same reason. He has speed and good footwork which can get him out of trouble and into space.

If they're both going then we need to be bringing in some speed in draft/trade or fa.

Hoping we improve the list to keep up with Bris, Rich , Geel reported recruits. Jacko out, Grundy in… is that enough for us to still be a serious threat next yr?

I know MFC often operate in stealth these days but please give us at least 1 more established forward or upgrade picks to bring in some more top 10 talent..

Van Rooyen, Howes, Turner....

Picks are a gamble that could pay off at a time when our once in a generation midfield talent has passed its window.

Id like to see us have a crack at Mitch Georgiades even though he is a WA boy he could be ideal.

Jackson to WC for a first rounder and Oscar Allen also works for me haha

Naughton would be the one Id also love but seems unlikely.

Grundy does not overly excite me tbh.

Another weird idea - Weid as a key position defender?

My bet is number 1, if in doubt always take the topweight.

not that exciting is it though. Who did we add after winning the flag? Cats are going to add 3 possible top talents and also acquire 3 picks inside 20.

A 26 year old 190cm battler on the fringe at a bottom club with 33 goals total from 36 matches at AFL level. He’s basically a Weid downgrade, but smaller. If we’re chasing him and expecting him to play a meaningful role while clubs like Geelong and Tigers are adding gun talent best and fairest winner level players, then we’re stuffed.

It's not like for like though, is it?

When we won our premiership, we were aiming to be the first premiership team to ever play another game together. It'd never happened before, such was the age profile of our list.

Oliver and Petracca not yet at their physical peaks, Lever, Kozzy and Jackson at the time etc.

Compare this with Geelong and they face the very real possibility of falling off a cliff next year due to their age profile.

They need to replenish their list. We didn't. We were undone by injury to our best players. Had Geelong suffered a similar fate, they don't win the flag. As simple as that.

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
