Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So we get Pick 8 and what Freo get for Lobb (29) and Freos 2nd (32). That’s not good enough IMV.

Surely freo aren't giving up a future first just to love up 5 spots. We'd tell them to give us 13 and a future first before they did that, regardless of wanting a top 10.

I’m hoping it’s something like:

- Freo: 13 & one of North’s very early 2nds they get from the Logue trade

for:

- Port’s pick 8

then Freo add their future 1st, and that’s the deal.

For LJ, we get 8, and a future 1st, in a good draft

Nah. Plus, pick 32 is ours not Freos.

The Power is open to shuffling back several spots in the first round of the draft, which could see the club swap its pick 8 for Fremantle’s pick 14.

Port Adelaide would receive at least one second-round pick from Fremantle as extra incentive to move six spots backwards in the first round.

How Port can make or break the Jackson deal

The Herald Sun reported on Tuesday night Port Adelaide, which holds Pick 8, is open to dropping down the draft order, meaning the Dockers could orchestrate a pick swap with the Power that would land the former an appropriate selection they could then send to Melbourne — along with a future first — for Jackson.

Although the report stated the Power would only be prepared to shuffle back six spots and do a deal with Fremantle — which would see the Dockers also part with at least one second-round pick — if it felt the trade benefited them.

How rival club can help Freo unlock Luke Jackson trade as likely compo for losing outgoing duo revealed

Hoping we improve the list to keep up with Bris, Rich , Geel reported recruits. Jacko out, Grundy in… is that enough for us to still be a serious threat next yr?

I know MFC often operate in stealth these days but please give us at least 1 more established forward or upgrade picks to bring in some more top 10 talent..

Absolutely not enough. We employed that strategy last year and the competition caught up with us. Smart recruiting from the sides around us helped propel them this year. We all hope that some of the VFL guys will come on next year, but the fact that so few debuted this year says we need to be more aggressive this trade period.

The reality is there just aren't many players on the market who fit a direct need

Amon is the obvious miss

Gunstan keen to head to Queensland so likely we were never a chance

Guys like Oliver Henry, Bruhn etc are being overrated on potential

Tough to pluck a key forward out of thin air too

Our 2021 improvement came from Pickett & Jackson coming on, with improvement from fringe players

And 2022 they slid back in form, not stepped up to another level (Kozzie excluded, but without consistency).  Top 6 played with niggles, bottom 6 dropped away. Need to see the list- or the players on that list - do much better next year.

Apparently Geelong have been into Bowes for a while and whoever is on Trade Radio in the morning reckons they are firming as one of the favourites to snare him and that sweet, sweet no.7 pick.

Seriously other clubs, what are you doing you nitwits? Looking at you St Kilda, Essendon, everyone else etc.

Maybe Port want someone who is guaranteed to be there later - say Harry Barnett - ruckman from SA rated at 20 by Cal Twomey.

Why would anyone go to Essendon? They have no coach and their culture is toxic. Their need and want for Hird to coach speaks volume of where there at.

St Kilda are just irrelevant in general.

This is all true but if these clubs and their pencil pushers are worth their salt they should at least be linked to this so they can at least sound like they know what they are doing. I'd hate to be a member of either of these clubs, they stink.

Bowes infinitely more likely to get a game at StK /ESS than Geelong.  Cats clearly more interested in his pick 7 than his personality

If you read the tea leaves, it's sounding like Brad Scott will be the Bombers Coach and probably announced soon.

If he says he wants it, the process just flew out the window.

IMO, Yze had the job, unless Scott said he would do it.

Joel Selwood can take over as AFL Football Ops manager and keep the Geelong benefits flowing.

You always worry when these sleeping giant clubs like Essendon and Carlton claim they are doing the full shortlist process, sometimes they just can't help themselves and they are handpickers at heart. You just have to feel sorry for guys like Adem who go down the garden path to the end several times.

Josh Dunkley wins the Dogs B&F, Aaron Naughton 3rd.  Strange times.

These are strange times.

We are prepared to let a 27 year old player, with pace, who has played 40 games the last 2 years leave and keep a 33 year old for one last year and a 32 year old likewise, both of whom who are probably cooked.

Moving forward, to me it makes no sense at all.

If Naughton was gettable, which I think he probably isn't,  the LJ deal could be done fairly easily, with picks and players swapping. Unless we have earmarked another key forward, we seem at this point to be looking to get good picks to draft with.

Then again who really knows what is going on behind closed doors.

I am still a fan of the Bowes deal, if we could convince him to come to us. His salary could be easily managed with those two  30 plus year old players mentioned above, being delisted. Then we get pick 7, which could give us another very good player for many years to come, either by trade or draft. You could get Georgiades for example with 7 and a pick back. You extend Bowes contract and amortise the salary. Bowes is not a bad player with nice disposal. HBF, wing or hff and he is ok.

Anyway, that is my opinion fwiw.

Duncan 32/33 menegola 30 and injured, touhy 32 going 33. issie smith 33 going 34. and they just slot in a 24 yo hb/mid to replace them for the next 5+ years. same deal with henry just walks into the rohan spot in 12/24 months time

Where's the fun in dealing with even more speculation ;).

Any scenario that lands us with a KPF + Grundy is a win. Pick 2 nets us Cadman. As for future picks, well that would mean we have to put up with BBB and TMac for another year and we all know that story too well. Maybe JVR changes it up and maybe Maxy learns to kick straight. but JVR needs a long term partner in crime and the other 3 are approaching their expiry date.

I 100% agree with you,  and I'm very keen on Cadman too, but unfortunately it will be way more complex than just this year's picks

Yep. I know we are on the outside looking in and we will have a better understanding today fortnight, but it does seem like we are unbalancing the list.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
