Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wouldn't mind at the club making an offer to Jack Bowes, he has a lot of what we're missing and he's in a great age bracket.

I think there's a position for him to play wing with his ball use, composure and clean hands being a strength and he's got good height and is strong above his head so folding back to intercept ala Gus is no issue.

These are the moves I wish the club would make.

Harmes and Jordon on a wing just does my head in. We just simply need to add some other components to our midfield mix.

Former top 10 pick and ready to go.

Would happily give up a pick between 10-20 for him.

Is Bowes a winger though? Plus he's on a good contract and the Suns are willing to let him go for cap relief. I don't see us being in a position to add too much from a salary perspective.

Menegola from the Cats is someone I would look at if we are chasing a winger. He is also contracted, but it would be hard for the Cats to keep him if he seeks a trade, particularly if he misses out on Saturday.

Good spot up Jimmy. Thought his 2021 season was really good and he uses it very well with decent dash and can play a run-with role. These are the kind of guys GC should be building a team around yet they keep losing them and wonder why they can't move forward.

Were Jordon, Harmes or Brayshaw?

I think his attributes would be of better use in that position than the above three names given our need for ball use and composure under pressure.

We need a release player in that area of the ground. A player who can just set the next play up by hitting a target in a dangerous position. None of the players we have there can do that. Langdon's running ability is the only reason he plays on that opposite wind, his ball use is extremely dodgy and under pressure it's horrendous. And as good as Gus was defensively with his ability to cover, he similarly butches the ball and makes simple errors.

We need some class there in the Steele Sidebottom mould. And Bowes is that.

Gus and Jordan have learnt the defensive running patterns that is required to play on that members wing, Bowes would have no trouble with that. But he brings a completely different skill set and one we need.

Our whole game plan has been developed because 1) we had only one true winger; and 2) we wanted the opposition to kick it long to Max.

I think you are bang on that we should be looking to get another skilful, running player on the other wing. But I am not sure Bowes is that player (there is a reason he could not get a game at GCS) and I doubt we will want to pay him as much money as he is on. Jordon, Harmes or Brayshaw would be better IMO. Hopefully Woewodin, Bowey or Howes can also develop and fill the gap.

I think we already got a pretty natural winger in Bowey.  Lovely kick, clean ball handling skills, has both an offensive and defensive side to his game....Could be great linkman between defense and attack.  Just not sure Goodwin has the nous to try it.    He tried Spargo there a few times which looked horrible.

Bowey must be in our team somewhere next year whatever the case.   He has a unique skillset that we don't have very much of.   Little Woey looks like he has an extreme tank and lovely skills for maybe another winger going forward.

Fascinating what happens now the dockers boys (Tucker and Logue) who chose North as there preferred club to be traded to.

If Clarkson goes, would you still want to go there?  If not, do they stay?  Does this impact the ability to trade for Jackson with less room in the cap and less draft picks potentially.

Bowey could be an option on wing but the question is whether or not someone like Jordon is a better all round winger

Woey has shown some good signs and is a better than average user of the football - his challenge is to get it more of it - also seems a bit one paced

Personally I think Bowey is too small to play wing, but if he can develop the tank you never know.  I'd like to see Taj developed into a small lockdown defender in the Nev Jetta, Matty Whelan mould.  He has clean skills, he's tough and disciplined and from the little I've seen he seems to make good decisions.

Interesting idea and maybe worth a go but I'd question if he has the leg speed to play that role

I know Jetta wasn't exactly quick but he managed to read the game better than anyone which helped compensate - I'd suggest towards the end his lack of pace really became his enemy

Why would you waste a player with clean skills in such a nothing position!

Can you list all the nothing positions for me please?  It's the first time I've heard that being a small lockdown defender referred to like that.

He had a shoulder injury in January this year that required surgery which kept him out for four months.

He played 5 games towards the back half of the year.

He played 19 games in 2021 and was a mainstay in the team in the years preceding with around 15 games a year.

I hope we are exploring what getting Bowes might take. Can play, good size for a versatile half back/wing, can kick and moves well. Good age for our list and being Suns are trying to salary dump make not cost much in trade.

My understanding is that clubs that will take on Bowes and his contract in full will likely receive a pick, most likely a 2nd rounder. Akin to the Brodie trade last year in which freo got him and pick 19 with some later swaps.

No idea about how tight our salary cap space is for this to be a realistic chance but I would suggest it's unlikely.

Saw Rendell mentioned Cam Rayner as a possible trade, in my opinion he’s a type of player we lack.

I love Spargo as much as anyone but Rayner on his flank would be a serious upgrade

I also acknowledge it won’t happen

With the talk of a salary dump at Gold Coast, my ears pricked up when I heard Jeremy sharps name mentioned today on SEN. Remembering before he was injured last year he was looking like a top class wingman in the making. Would love to see us at least dip a toe in the water and do our due diligence on him.

We interviewed him twice in 2019 before the draft, so would not be surprised if we remained interested

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
