Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Disagree. Stewart is awesome, and Cameron’s had a fantastic year. But Selwood and Danger flash in and out and Hawkins is excellent but only at one thing - plonking himself 30 out from goal and winning a one on one. Takes a lot of system around him.

Guthrie, Blicavs and Atkins have been the consistent driving forces of their midfield this year. Their small forwards have been excellent. And whilst Stewart (pick 40 btw) is the key to their backline they’re no name guys all do the job.

Its all irrelevant though. I’m not looking for stars. We’re looking to upgrade or create more competition for our bottom 6

We have lots of competition for our bottom 6, the VFL just won the flag after a nearly faultless season.  We don’t want for much other then another forward or 2.

I'm not sure what your definition of 'fail' is but I don't see any on that list.

Bedford might be alright but he hasn’t got a permanent spot in 4 years. Same for Chandler. And early days for Deak Smith but it’s not looking great.

Baker, Nietschke, Hore, Bedford, Chandler, Lockhart, Wagner, Bradtke, Walker, Dunkley, M Brown, Bennell, Daw, Deak Smith, Declase.

So far it’s 0 from 15 from 2017-20.

In 2016 he went 1 (Hannan) with 5 strike outs (Johnston, Filipovic, Smith, Keilty, Maynard). 0 from 4 in 2015 unless you’re a Joel Smith believer or really liked liked Josh Wagner.

1 in 24 played 50 games. Not expecting miracles here. But a couple more 50 gamers would give us a deeper list.

Gee, nice of you to ignore all the relevant information for post 2nd round selections in my post.  Not!

You are hanging your hat on rookie selections which by definition are temporary or to 'try out'.  No-one expects many of them to become best 22 players but Chandler and Turner might

Have a look at my post again and consider JT's policy of only keeping 1st and 2nd round picks.  A smart strategy don't you think?  If you can't see the strategy you are being disingenuous and wasting eveyone's time.

I'm out!

I agree with what you're saying, but it will need a change of philosophy from our coaches and match committee. Our reluctance to drop out of form players, or rest banged up players, meant that in form VFL players like Chandler and JVR were not rewarded.

Sam De Konning looked out of his depth at times last year, but the Cats persisted with him. I feel we missed an opportunity to blood JVR this year.

So much competition that the coach won’t play them. And say what you want about Goodwin let’s stop with this idea he doesn’t play kids or has no idea what he’s doing. He just won a flag with a bunch of young players.

Key back: Turner, if he can add to his game and string together, wasn’t really ready this year
Small back; Bowey
Midfield: nothing.
Forward: Chandler and Bedford are ok, but Chandler’s slow and Bedford lacks composure

Our VFL won the flag because our list management has flooded the list with good VFL players and Casey players were very strong. It says little of how many future AFL players we’ve got developing.

He played 1 game last year against North in round 5 as a forward/ruck. Tell me how that influenced his season this year?

Oops, I'm confusing De Konning with Kolodjashnij. It was Kolo who looked out of his depth in the final against us.

I’ve listed all of the picks. Not cherry picked in any way except stopping at Turner.

A run of 0 from 15 at this stage from Hannan to Turner.

Yes, no one expects a great return, but a return better than 0 would sure be nice. Of course some have been ready made types. Majak went so well he quit when we needed a ruckman! When we needed a key forward we went with Melksham over Mitch Brown.

Lack of 3rd rounders has been partly because of shallow draft pools, mid season and pre season listing and other factors limiting the draft. I have no issue with JT not taking many of them. Means more rookies and other ways to fill out the list.

I don’t understand why you’re so aggrieved.  The strategy has not been to completely wipe out on late picks. We’ve added guys who were a slim chance to make it or contribute and none of them have.

That’s called depth with the good VFL players you are talking about.  As for the kids you neglected to mention JVR, Howes, Woewodin and Moniz who all showed a bit this year.  The kids you mention all have flaws that’s why they play VFL to develop and iron out their flaws.  I’m not sure what uiu expect a list to look like but no team in the AFL has 40 players of quality who are all ready to play AFL.

Since 2013 I can list 17 players that Geelong have recruited after the second draft round that did not play a game. That is out of a total of 24. Only 7 have played more than one game. All clubs have a list like you have quoted above that make you think their club has recruited poorly after R2. As Luci has said its been a strategy to since 2018 that we trade late picks to get higher draft picks. You need to do a little more homework before you start making your signature grandiose statements.

The first year kids look promising but apart from JVR can any be seriously tipped to contribute next year? JVR is what we need. Turner is what we need. Bowey is what we need. But mostly they’re taking over from the ageing guys. I don’t think we’ve got enough young talent to cut best 22 players unless we’re trading in ready to go replacements is my point.

The media (shock horror) were wrong.

Plenty of us were saying we didn’t do enough to change the list last year.

Our depth talls were questionable, hence why we targeted JVR in the draft. Ruck was so shallow and we stuck with Maj. Our mids were so shallow we had to get Dunstan just to have a physical body. And we attempted to flick Melksham.

We had the premiership 22, JJ and Hunt. Then some mild hope for Bedford and Chandler. Tomlinson was expected to bounce back and it was year 15 of hoping Joel Smith got through a year without a serious injury.

12 months later and the only fresh young players who look like impacting next year are JVR and Turner and they combined for 0.5 of a game and need time as young talls.

We have enough young talent playing in the senior side.  Most of our guns still have their best years ahead of them

He also said Grundy wants to come to the Dees are is excited by the prospect of joining us.

Fagan is the anti Goodwin. You score 150 points, we’ll score 160.

They need to fix up their defence, not strengthen their forward line further.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
