Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Then why didn’t they select him again the rest of the year?

He has potential for sure.

Probably the same reason Tomlinson and Joel Smith were not selected as tall backs in the latter half of the season

Our current highest ranked starting talls in D50 are Petty, May and Lever. I'd love to see us play Petty in the F50 next season probably replacing BBB - should that happen it would open up a spot for one of Turner, Tommo or J Smith

I've watched a lot of Casey this year and IMO Turner has as much upside as JVR who many are touting as the next big thing. This is certainly not a criticism of JVR btw - both are very young, still learning and still building AFL level fitness and size

I keep reading about our need for a key fwd, the truth is theres no A grade ones that are available unless you attempt to entice the likes of a McKay way over market value to leave. Do we really want that? We would have to pay McKay over 1 mill per year to force him out of Carlton.

So we go to the draft and grab Cadman, he won't be ready straight away. The only solution I can think of that makes sense is including a promising ruck/fwd in the Jackson deal such as Oscar Allen or Lobb. Other than that our salary cap won't allow us to make a 6 figure play at a superstar key fwd.

A huge problem for us in terms of Jackson leaving is how few players there are in the AFL who can play as a tall forward and reliving ruck.

And players who fit that bill AND who are gettable right now are as rare as hen's teeth.

We need a ready made replacement, no a draftee.

Who else is even remotely available other than Lobb?

Weideman? Just a stab in the dark.

Lobb is the answer, if we can land him.

No superstar salary required.

JVR will be our superstar.

Lobb will be 30 soon and has requested a trade to the Bulldogs for a 3 year approx $500k p.a.  Freo are resisting a trade and aim to keep him to the one year left on a $700/$750K contract.

We have recruited quite a few WA players in the last 3 years.  Lets hope we keep them beyond their first few development years.

Recent record with tall, top 20 lads from the region hasn’t been great…

I’m the vindictive type so I just sincerely hope Melbourne (& others) persistently harass the living daylights out of Victorian players drafted to WA & SA with ridiculous come-home offers.

Well, both Curnow & McKay are free agents in 2023, so that's our replacements for Brown & McDonald all sorted.

Actually, both McKay's are out of contract in 2023, and both are also restricted free agents. What are they, twins or something?

That would be a fun way to top up for stage two of 'operation neverending premiership glory'.

I heard McKay is gettable this trade period.

If there is even the slightest chance. I hope we explore all options.

Players move clubs for money, more games and 'success'.  Not sure we can sell the first two and without either of those two, there is little chance of them sharing in our success.  So in the short term I doubt we will lure many to the dees.

Lobb’s a tease. He doesn’t like to ruck even though he could be special in that position. He wants to be the man up forward and hasn’t ever shown he is the man. He’d be a great fit if he committed to the fit.

I have high hopes for Jacob being a solid performer but he projects a lot more like Brody Mihocek than a superstar to me. But I also think superstar key forwards are overrated. 2 key forwards who crash packs, lead hard, chase hard, tap the ball on and contribute at ground level can get the job done.

To be fair, RL, the Lions kids are Father Sons and not due to the academy system. And the lions did miss out on Marc Murphy.

It is just the luck of the draw and at least they will pay 80 cents in the dollar unlike the Cats for Ablett, Hawkins and Scarlett.

You have to laugh at the way posters tie themselves up in knots about Brodie Grundy.

"He's injury prone and fragile".  (Facts show that he been remarkably durable with the exception of this year)

"Yeah but his last two years were poor"  (Facts show he finished top ten in the B & F in both years)

"Yeah but those B & F placings mean nothing"  (Facts show they are a great indication of performance)

Which rabbit hole will the critics go down next, I wonder?

And just for the record, I'm 50/50 on the merits of trading for Grundy.  I trust our Club to make the best decision.

Disagree with your take DS. There are multiple factors that make a decision to get Grundy baffling. Most of these factors have been well articulated.

B&F placings don't necessarily reflect the quality of performance. A player may finish high in the B&F purely because they played a majority of the games, and other key players missed chunks of the season. Finishing top 10 in a team that finished 17th is hardly a reflection of an outstanding season. Anyone who saw him play could see that his performance had fallen from his AA years.

I could not be more ambivalent about Grundy.

But if he ends up at the dees then he'll have my 100% support.

Well he played one afl game, looked really promising and got knocked out. Trade him. Delist him. He obviously doesn’t have it.

Posters keep perpetuating this myth about Grundy and it's just not true.

2022 is the only year in his career that he's hasn't played the vast majority of games.

It’s gotta be the Collingwood jumper he’s worn clouding peoples judgement.

makes it kinda baffling that they are so into dunkley as well. even with robinson and zorko at the end of their careers they still have alot of midfielders including many 3/4yrs who've barely had any exposure

Norf definitely need some key backs. Harry McKay can't do it all on his own and Aiden Corr hasn't quite lived up to his role as the 2nd key defender. Tomo would be a great fit for them. A late second round or early third should be suitable value for a decent defender such as him.

they're well into grif logue for this reason and he's better than tommo. ur not getting a second rounder for tommo unless its something like our second rounder for theirs and its a slide up rather than a flat pick. even lewis melican or alex keath or recently delisted hartigan probably has more trade likeliness than tommo.

My theory on Melk getting another year is that pesky son of his who everyone loved so much in the lockdown bubble in WA must have been DNA tested and he's going to be a superstar and we need Melk to get 6 more games for him to be a father/son. Otherwise a bit surprising. But I'm sure I'm right.

Yep, I reckon you're spot on.

I can just see our list management strategy meeting down at Rye.

Tim Lamb: So, do we keep Melksham everyone?

Jason Taylor: I think it might be time to go back to the well and see what we can get from draft instead.

Alan Richardson: I agree. Let's cut him.

Simon Goodwin: Hang on a second guys. I'm really good mates with Melky.

Tim Lamb: Oh yeah. You are too.

Alan Richardson: Good point. Maybe we keep him.

Jason Taylor: Yeah, fair enough. I was forgetting you guys were good mates, Goody. Let's keep him. Stuff the draft pool.

Some of you people are just nasty. Purely and simply NASTY.

Scroll to the top of this thread. See the title? It’s the ‘Trade and Free Agency Rumours’ thread. Seems it’s becoming yet another thread that degenerates into a Melks bash-fest.

Why is it ok to insult Jake’s son?

And @A F… I’m not so much angry with you as I am disappointed. I really like your posts and almost always agree with you. But this? Really? You’re better than that.

And before anyone rolls out the tired old ‘if you don’t like it then don’t read it’ crap, I opened a thread that’s titled ‘Trade and Free Agency Rumours’ and I understandably expected exactly that. How about ‘if it’s nasty and mean spirited about ONE OF OUR OWN, don’t [censored] post it!’

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
