Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Can I say it again Mitch Brown kicked 2 vital goals and could have had another, and some would have him in front of an again disappionting Weeds!?Now come on!

Wasn't one of those goals a result of a short pass onto his chest by Weid?  If so, I'd say they sahred that one.

a) Its not a foreign role. He plays this role often at Casey

b) He has good hands? OMG that is simply laughable. He is the greatest two grabber since Chris 'Concrete Hands' Dawes except he cant even take the second grab!

a) Don't think he has 'often' been the primary ruckman at Casey.

b) I believe they're talking about his hands in and around the contest, not marking, given they're talking about disposal and go on to talk about his lack of aerial impact.

Can you really compare playing backup ruck at VFL level to AFL? Besides Weideman doesn't play a full time ruck role, he was playing with Majak as the primary ruck.

And I meant he has good hands in the packs and at ground level. He is not good in the air. That is his biggest failing and the reason why he is in and out of the side, he can't impact aerial contests.

This is a part of an article written by The Mongrel Punt  on the Adelaide v Melb game.  I found it interesting reading comments by independent commentators.

"Matching them up, they attended a similar number of ruck contests, but that is where the comparison stops. ROB got 48 hit outs from his 70 contests, 16 to advantage while Weideman's 73 contests. netted only 11 hit outs with four to the advantage of his own team.

The story is the same for practically all key stats, with O'Brien pantsing Weideman in clearances, tackles, marks, disposals, metres gained, intercepts and even free kicks.

Having said all that, Weideman would have known that he was probably not going to win the taps going into the game, so it looked like he intentionally put his body into spaces that O'Brien was looking to use to tap to his mids, while the Melbourne midfield looked to steal the ball as it was tapped down, which they did so very effectively.

So while I'm giving O'Brien the nod as a pure ruckman,  the way Weideman was able to work with his midfield was everything that Melbourne could have wanted from him in terms of outcome. He still needs to watch some undisciplined play that gave away free kicks, but as a role player, he did very well and will likely be congratulated in the Monday game review."

" .... the way Weideman was able to work with his midfield was everything that Melbourne could have wanted from him in terms of outcome....."   Yes, I found that bit particularly interesting coming from Mongrel Punt, a good analyst of footy games and tactics.

He has quick hands in terms of getting out a useful handball - just occasionally we have seen him take some great grabs, but unfortunately that is THE factor stopping him from becoming a regular.

I have no idea if that is something that can be taught / learned but I guess if it were then someone would have tried it.

I am of course biased when it comes to Geelong but if we play near our best and they play near their best - we will win by 20+ points.

If Max is back rpfc. Without him the result could go to the cats. They are a much better side than the crows.

Looks like Geelong have a few outs:  Stewart, Kolodjashnij and possibly Stanley.

They also tend to rest their older players after 5/6 day breaks so would not surprise me if  Danger and Selwood have a rest

They rested Selwood this weekend and he was rested about a month ago plus they had a bye.  Dangerfield played little more than half a game after many weeks out.

They will both play.

Weed can mark overhead it's just for whatever reason he's lacking confidence, but it will come back.

They are a better side but the Crows bought something to the game the Cats don't! Pressure. In the first quarter, the pressure rating for both teams was over 200, which is insanely high. It didn't drop much till late in the game when the Crows couldn't maintain it. The Cats basically had a bye on the weekend with North losing 2 players in the first 10 minutes. With 3 on the bench and limited rotations, they were never going to be competitive.

We don't rest  players Tony ! Goody doesn't do that so Trac who just hit form and confidence and kicked goals and Hibbo won't be rested.

Hogwash! We do rest players, just not often. You said the same thing before the NM game off a short break when I said we might rest Viney or Lever and then Viney pulled out the day before the game.

We lost badly in 2020 off short breaks against Port, Sydney and Freo. I think we need to pick a 22 which is cherry ripe rather than one that looks good on paper.

Obviously I expect Petracca to play, but he did look sore at the end of the Adelaide game and we won't win the flag this Thursday but we could lose it. Pig is 32 and has had two calf strains this year already.

Gee I'm up with it. Not. Oh well they have plenty of other older players, like most of their side so maybe they rest them !!. Who ever they play we will knock them off. Got a very tough run home so need this one.

Those 2020 breaks were as I recall something like 3 games (albeit shorter) in a week including a game in Cairns minutes after a 4 hour (bus and plane) journey.

We need to get used to getting by without T Mac - IF he gets back, match fit and ready for September it will just be a bonus.

We had a 5-day break going into both the Port and Sydney matches and then 4 days into Freo. The Sydney/Freo schedule in Cairns was dreadful because it was back to back.

Last year we had a great win against Port in Adelaide off a 5-day break (both sides had the same number of days).

But the point stands, fitness and health is crucial on a short turnaround and the coaches/fitness staff should be wary of a let down due to fatigue. We should pick the side most likely to win this Thursday and not take any risks with our stars, which may not be the best 22.

Looks like Max had the opportunity to play himself back into form, wonder if he won the Hit-outs....

"Max trained on (Saturday) at Adelaide Uni. The AusKick was on and he was pretty good. He did pretty much a match load and moved really well, so he'll be right for Thursday night," Demons coach Simon Goodwin said over the weekend. - AFL App

It does read like he played a game with the Auskick kids. Would have been fun to watch.

Someone remind me please. Wasn’t the media ‘concerned’ about our forward line  last season at the same stage or even as late as Round 19?

We’ve actually scored more points than this stage last year.

This is certainly true and a reminder that things can change. Just need to get the mix right.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
