Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Question without notice, willmoy.  Who is Neal Lewis that you have listed among your favourite players?

A good friend who was invited down from Ovens and Murray L, to train with Fitzroy. Didn’t show and trained and played Amateurs.

Yes, the umpiring was noticeable given we only received 3 free kicks in 3 quarters.

But can we talk about how we ground down and overcame some high level pressure, possibly Adelaide's best all year, in hostile territory after conceding the lead late in the second quarter?

All without Gawn, Jackson and TMac?

It's easy to look at Adelaide's ladder position and think this should have been routine, and the way the first five minutes unfolded that's what I thought it was going to be. But they brought really clear heat and made us work for everything.

The more games we get into the current back seven, with Hibberd and Salem still needing to find their feet a bit, the better we are going to get. 30 intercept marks is huge.

As for the forward line, 24 scoring shots and nearly 100 points in a game where no forward was really all that dominant. Still too many errant inside 50 kicks and missed shots on goal, so there remains room for improvement.

Thank you. I watched this with ni sound so wasn't sure what the commentators were saying but it looked like Foggarty clearly round armed him.

Oh, and can we just have a moment to marvel at the latest AFL MRO/Tribunal disgrace.

Tom Stewart runs past the ball and KOs Prestia. That's "careless".

Kozzie Pickett poorly executed a tackle. That's "intentional".

(FWIW, I have no problem with Pickett being cited for what he did, but it was careless in the truest sense of the word).

Haha I should have watched it on mute too! The commentators didn’t mention it.. in fact from memory they were applauding another Adelaide player for limiting Lever’s impact.

Adelaide are the #1 Pressure team. they have been doing it all year. They have a host of problems but pressure isn't one of them

Mitch Brown must be one of the longest travelled journeyman ever. Drafted in 2008 but only played 79 games for 3 clubs. Very few players remain from that vintage in the league. Amazing.

I tip him to get a free on the siren in the 2022 G/F,  after Weid having been dragged kickless  ,and slots the winning goal after the bell

Interviewed later he says " I have been waiting for my opportunity "

Despite the mid season hiccup, you could argue we're tracking even better than this time last year.

Last year we were second but on equal wins with the leading Dogs at 12-3.

This year we are clear top albeit with the same win/loss.

Our percentage was 12 points lower last year compared to this year.

This year we are 2 games and a truck load of percentage clear of 5th.

Last year we were a game and a tiny bit of percentage clear of 5th.

It really puts it into perspective doesn't it? It can be hard to take a step back and see the bigger picture when you're losing, but that slump was really not as bad for our season as many people were making it out to be. While there is still a lot of footy left to play, we have set ourselves up well for a strong run home!

I heard an interview with Richo either just before  the pies game, or in the following few days, and he said we were going better than last year, noting that too often last year we were down at half time and had to fight back in the second half.  Whereas this year we have started better and controlled leads more effectively (clearly a big focus this season).

Richo also noted we had won more quarters than than at the corresponding stage last year

Just finished watching the replay. I'm not sure if it has been mentioned but the Demon supporters at the ground put up a mighty effort. The singing of the song with 4 minutes to go and then the chant of "Lever Lever" and the roar when took his last intercept mark was fantastic. Well done to all those that travelled or turned up from Adelaide to support the Dees.

Part of a defensive group that had the 4th highest ever intercept mark or intercepts for a single game (I think). Lever played a minor role but was part of the group nevertheless

It was rather odd to hear Ricciuto say Fogarty and Lever didn't like each other.  They were never team mates, in fact Fogarty was recruited with the pick Crows got for Lever.  And they would have only played against each other 2 or 3 times.  Odd.

And as for saying Lever 'got into' Fogarty for what was a gentle push to the shoulders, well Ricciuto has gone soft if he thinks that is 'getting into'.  It certainly didn't warrant the punch to the stomach from Fogarty in return.

Deserved his fine. Even in the finger incident he was coming in to round arm Lever and pretty much got what he deserved.

Could one be forgiven for thinking that we have players that will be targeted in the next six weeks..and thereafter.

That goes without saying .... and they will NOT be given the normal protection by the umpires that most other teams get ... especially Max and Clarrie which is a disgrace.  Gill, Scott, Christian .. please explain?

I enjoyed that win.

Without a recognised ruck in the team and travelling over to the Land that Time Forgot I think it was a notable win.

A couple of observations and thoughts.

- A great defensive display by a well settled and well drilled team within a team.

- A good coaching move to play Petracca more forward as it gives us another option and another headache for the opposition defense. it is another potential problem that teams will have to plan for.

- I will be interested to see how the last couple of weeks without Max will effect the stoppage setup. Max was shown a number of time watching what was going on. No ruck this last round and, while we were beaten in the tap work we broke even in clearances. there has to be a few lessons learnt out of that experience.

- As per last season, we are winning games without a fully functioning froward setup. just keep kicking winning scores. ???? no idea how to sort that out.

- loved the second quarter with the skills and pressure from both teams. We won out in the end a we could keep the pressure higher longer.

As much a I enjoyed the win on Saturday, I want to win on Thursday much more. I have a high degree of dis-like for The Cats players, team, their ground and their coach. I will define 'high degree' if any one is in any doubt.

Well as expected, our premier midfielders needed to adapt and rove to the opposition ruckmen (for the whole game) ... this we did very well and we ended up controlling the game after a time

But not before the Crows took it up to us ... we were caught playing from behind for a time and they switched the play and used the corridor quite well until we overpowered them with superior skill (after half time)

Our team has excelled in 3rd quarters for quite a while now so it was no surprise when we put our foot down

A comfortable win in the end but not having Gawn & Jackson or any recognised ruckman meant we had to find another way.  We might have been in a bit of trouble if we were up against a good set of opposition midfielders

Both Clarrie & Trac were fabulous with Langdon & Gus not far behind

But the Steven May led backline again kept the opposition to 65 points which coincidentally, was the average score against us last season (this season the average score against us is 63 points)

Max is a smart footballer, and the coaching panel are too - hopefully they will have taken "learnings" out of this and will maybe adapt their plans accordingly.

So cool to get this feedback. We hadn’t planned for the ‘Lever’ chant, that came about as a result of their fans booing Jake every time he touched the ball. So we began cheering loudly to try to drown out their booing. Then we just got carried away and while doing a ‘Melbourne’ slow chant it morphed into a Lever one. Great to hear this was appreciated.

IIRC during the commentary they said Adelaide's second (I think?) quarter had season-high pressure for them?

(Or did I imagine that...?)

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
