Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That second quarter was so enjoyable. Could easily have kicked 10 goals

led by Viney we physically smashed them and they were left broken

so proud of Jack and the boys

That's the dees we know and love, great to see the desperation back. Viney and Lever were huge. Jackson stepped up and I thought Weid played his role but saying that if Max is fit I replace him with Weid. Love the 3 tall set up look so much more dangerous with Bedford in the side.

This was a demolition make no mistake. Really should've been a 15 goal plus win but we let them off the hook with some pretty easy misses. Just ground it away and got our contest and pressure (especially forward half pressure) game back.

Well said! While I'm sad we didn't win by 90 points, it's almost a silver lining of our inaccuracy. We'll get the kudos of a strong win against the ladder leader, but it won't come with the over-the-top media spin that a complete flogging would have 😄

Might be going out on bit of a limb here.  I’m a ‘loading’ believer, but I reckon we freshened up a little for this game.
I hope we resume loading up for the next few games and taper from around end of July.  May end up chewing my nails to the quick and see us lose a game or two.  I am happy to see workmanlike performances for the next month or so
No point peaking right now and showing the opposition how good we really can be when we get going.
That is for later on in the season- my wish being that when we begin the tapering process we smash sides like Collingwood and Carlton leading into the finals.
Having said all that, what I saw tonight was definitely shades of what we did last year, and wasn’t it great.

(Sorry, should have posted this on the ‘loading’ thread- I have now copy pasted it across)

Forward half pressure game is back! Finally.

The ball movement was clicked into play as soon as Ben Brown tried a risky kick into the corridor and from there we took the game on and had some fun. That’s awesome footy to watch live. Ahhhhh.

Jackson superb. Viney strong. Oliver inevitable.

I like this smaller line up if we don’t have TMac; Bedford was great. We look quick, dangerous, and relentless.

Exceptional football. Clearly the best we've played since the Grand Final. Should have won by 80+ points against the top side. Yes they were missing Bailey and Zorko, but it's not like Gawn and TMac are bit players either.

The clear stand out IMO was the intensity. CP dominance, clearance dominance, forward half pressure, tackle pressure everywhere. We haven't played with that level of ferocity much in 2022 but when we bring it, we really [censored] bring it. Led superbly by Viney, who played one of his all time best career games.

Forward half worked so much better as a unit tonight. Small things like Weideman blocking for Brown and crumbers in the right spots in front of the marking forwards.

Don't know if it's a coincidence, it probably isn't, but Lever's game was phenomenal, against the highest-scoring side in the competition to boot. Petracca also lifted so our A-grade core was largely on song tonight (Langdon still has room to improve).

Weidemand deserves credit. He wasn't dominant but he put his body on the line in the ruck and in marking contests and I thought really applied himself well.

Let's see if this is a corner turned. Big games coming up on the road but when we play like this, we are scintillating.

This was the game of his JV's career tonight without a shadow of a doubt. The media and Bartlett were licking there lips in anticipation of another loss then Viney and Co just went cop that and tell me how that feels.

End of story, end of all the bull crap of the last two weeks. They can go and crawl back under their little rocks now.

Any others think we applied a different strategy to how we paced ourselves over the four quarters?

In our previous three matches, it seemed that our strategy was to go hard at the beginning, get a decent lead and then just hold it as the loading fatigue hit us in the last third. This hasn’t worked, partly because our defence has been disrupted making it difficult to hold our lead.

Today it seems that we started slowly, conserving ourselves a little, and then turned it on the second quarter. Clearly we weren’t as exhausted as previous weeks, but perhaps this also helped us converse what energy we had.

This just brings such joy, we are the most BRUTAL team in the comp, not dirty just tough and very brave.

So many satisfyingly elements to the win. Weid's body language was transformed as well. Lever back into form, our back 6 so good in every position. Wings on song JJ accomplished. Contest and Pressure industry best. Truly a role playing team.

Also what do we reckon, is Bedford now best 22?

100% for mine.

Adds some class and lovely finish / moves around goals and the arc.  Kicks accurately at goal.

Also worked hard to close down space on opponents as soon as we turned the ball over.  That last part tells me this kid's mind is in the game and he's committed to doing the little 'team' things.

And when was the last time we saw a player show the ball inside 50 and, under some real closing pressure, change lanes a little while running in then finish truly from 40 out!!?

Coach had to be happy with that game surely.

Strangely the run home looks a bit easier now

Our losses so far this season were not losses to the Demons, these games were losses against the 'Mighty Makeshifts', cruelled by injuries and exhaustion. The Mighty Demons have returned!

Totally agree. Brisbane were powerless to stop it, and they are supposedly next best. Good luck to the rest of the competition

Not taking anything away from the win, the boys were ruthless and I expect we would have won irrespective of how well the Lions played, but our opposition looked very flat tonight. They just never got going really, so their atrocious record at the G continues. Whether by design or attitude that was a huge turnaround in intensity by our boys.

The tackle frombehind by kozzie gets me every time!

I loved watching he and Bedford click into gear together tonight.

I can see those two spending many years up forward terrorising opposition players and cutting teams to shreds.

Koz works so hard defensively and offensively.

It was amazing to watch how fast he moved from the ball drop at centre half forward to gather in the pocket and blind turn through for that goal he kicked.

So happy that Toby has finally had the chance to blow those splinters out of his bum and play a really solid game tonight.

Excellent summation tu. I agree with your comment on the Weid did his job last night. I think he is a backup ruckman not a KPF.

I like the placement of "supposed" because it clearly refers to the media. Anyone that's seen Fremantle replicate our defensive systems and restrict oppo's to 50-60 points knows they are out biggest competition. And those that have compared Geelong forward line to everyone else's, and now seen Chris Scott talk of loading, should be prepared for them to be up there too.

There was a reddit post earlier this week with a Brisbane fan [censored] on Todd Goldstein for 'wasting his career' - I kindly remarked, that Toddy has played in 2 prelims in 2014/15, how many have these Lions players played in? 1. Three years at the top and North are still ahead of them for their achievements. So yeah, not to [censored] too hard on them, but they are in serious danger of squandering this window and coming out of it with close to nothing, if they can't step up and be a true contender like their ladder position often reflects. We all like Fagan, but maybe they need to shock the competition and appoint somebody else if they go out in straight sets or get demolished in a prelim again.

Yeah, so hard.

Interested in your thoughts on the game overall

My take

- we needed to move the ball faster and be more daring on transition ✔️
- we needed to up our pressure all over the ground ✔️
- we needed to get more efficient moving the ball into F50 ✔️( much better but still wasteful at times)

Overall I thought Viney was completely unstoppable - Actually Petracca like from the GF. Lever back to best, LJ very good etc

But I’m interested in your assessment of the Lions 🦁 particularly comments on them looking exhausted because the second half of the same fixture last year I saw them same scenario unfold in Sydney

Were they what we were against Freo ? Either way I think our performance was as good as anyone has played this season but can we really take much away from whether the Lions are a genuine threat ?

Interesting, Maybe some analysis is needed to this.

Last year, our defensive structure was strong 1st half, conserved energy before running over teams in the 2nd half, esp last quarters.

That was our DNA last year. Going hard 4 quarters isn't possible in a 23 games. We only need to do this for 3 games guys.

A big win and we are all very happy on here. One positive thing about a win on Thursday night, you can enjoy the weekend in the knowledge that the mighty Dees have won and sit on top of the ladder. I have some Tigers mad friends around on Sunday I can be very smug.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
