Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I might be on my own here but I actually think Caro is one of the best Journo's going around...

Amongst a sea of utter nonsense perhaps she’s ok. The standards of the afl media are the lowest of low. There is no genuine football analysis anywhere, just inflamed opinion, high horse editorialising, cheap, shallow points on the game disguised as analysis.
She hates Melbourne, refuses to ever bash Richmond and she really doesn’t report on the game. Just the “saucy” stuff outside the actual game. Which I wish the afl media would stop. It is they who create endless problems for players. Most afl “stories” aren’t really stories. They are the media yapping at each other. The industry doesn’t need half of it. Oh and she absolutely wreaks of entitlement, but a lot of the industry does.

Younger posters may not be aware that when Caro was growing up, her father, Ian "Octa" Wilson, was Richmond president and a very powerful man in the football world.

She has always had an excellent list of contacts in the industry and her sources are usually sound.

I think some people criticise her journalism on the basis that they don't care for her personally.  I get that she can be abrasive and tends to be soft on her beloved Tigers, but her articles are on the money more often than not.

I watch the show every week, both nights, for years and believe me she interrupts all the time.

It is very annoying, when you want to hear the others finish their sentence.

But are they a necessary contribution to the sport? They seem generally peripheral to the game and designed to destabilise.

Yep, complete BS all of it.

Gee it makes me laugh when they ask the victims of their repetitive attacks “so how are you coping with the pressure (that us media have created)”

often the answer will be some generic response such as “it has been tough, but the boys are just banding together and focusing our energy on the weekend”

(You can see their minds ticking over, and thinking/wanting to say, “we don’t listen to any of your BS, and actually couldn’t give a stuff, as we know it’s all fabricated drama designed to generate greater clicks/listeners/viewers/ratings”)

I tried to watch it but couldn’t work out who was interrupting who. You can’t mention any thing Collingwood or Richmond on the show and at times they are quite shameless. However they all have the ability to sound reasonable, intelligent and informative when discussing everyone else’s teams.!!

Wilson is brilliant IMHO. Do I always agree with her? No. Does she sometimes get it wrong? Yes. Who amongst us hasn't made mistakes? We're all keyboard heroes to some degree, including QD. Pointing out the errors of others whilst being reluctant to admit our own is par for the course online.

She has been brilliant in holding the often nefarious VFL/AFL to account for decades. She used to get suck into Oakley and Vlad on a regular basis.

And as for the morons in clubland . . . she's been superb. For example:

  • the hypocrisy of the Swans whinging while benefitting from COLA, draft concessions and AFL handouts to recruit stars,
  • the series of completely dysfunctional administrations at Linton Street over five decades, with a spectacular highlight (hard to pick one admittedly) being the duplicitousness fiasco involving Blight (thanks for all the headlines Minibus),
  • she was the first to go after the Golden Child at Windy Hill before it became popular game fishing,
  • she couldn't stand the Elliott cheating regime at Royal Parade,
  • she chased down the Crows in 2018,
  • called out the finger up-the-date debacle at Bunt Road for exactly what it was,
  • she went ferreting after Meth Coke, and
  • called out the sanctimoniousness at the Filth on a monthly basis.

And finally, I would say this. If she is talking over Triple Chins, I am not surprised. She has been subjected to, and had to put up with, sexism, prejudice, misogyny, behind the hand sniggers, and white male 'right to entitlement' at all levels of the game for a long time. How she has survived it is amazing. She must be a strong person. She has had to interrupt to be heard over the egocentric, self-important, arrogant and attention seeking FWs for a long time. Wilson has played a huge part in paving the way for a greater role for women in the game. Her legacy is assured.

let me praise your post QB - I saw how bad afl media is this week when North Melb provided its own PR video on JHF's coat hanger.

The reason the afl media is poor is because there is no money now for journos like Carro.

The Fourth Estate holds these clubs to account and Carro the best at this in my time.

Carro has bitten into topics in our club that I have found hard to digest but the truth hurts sometimes.

Triple C is a disgraceful-monologued know-all - I avoid him but occasionally I see him and there he is Mr Takeover Merchant.

I have just seen the funniest thing I have seen on TV in ages.

Caro on footy classified last night, complained that Eddie interrupted her.

All she does on that show is interrupt the other panellists and talk over them constantly. Eddie snapped back that she interrupts all the time and she didn’t like it.

I couldn’t believe what she said and she is either ignorant of the fact that she interrupts all the time, or she is just stupid and self obsessed, with hearing her own voice all the time.

PS : She still hasn’t apologised to Dees fans for her incorrect slur on our booing of BOG players while they are receiving an award. She is obviously too busy interrupting to listen to what she actually says. Verbal diarrhoea at its best.

I think Caro and Eddie are both as bad as each other. Eddie is the ultimate ego maniac and has no real feel for normal social interaction cos he’s so obsessed with his own ego. The upheaval on social issues and racism at Collingwood since he left can be directly attributed to Eddie’s insensitivity and his self obsession. It was all outlined  in the disgraceful facts surrounding Collingwood’s so called “Do Better Report” into Collingwood's systemic racism, which when it was released Eddie amazingly described it as “a great day for the Collingwood Football Club”. This directly led to his being sacked as Pies’ President and his leaving the Board for which Collingwood deserves a great deal of credit. Nevertheless, Maguire continues to push the same insensitive attitudes on Footy Classified on Channel Nine which makes it from my point of view unwatchable, particularly as that Eddie “clone” Ross Lyon is still there as well.

As far as Caro is concerned, l think she has been an outstanding AFL journalist in the past, but has well and truly gone past her “use-by date”. It is time for her to retire gracefully before her good name is soiled by those quacks Messrs Mecguire and Lyon. Alternatively, change shows. They are toxic!

Good point about Norf A-S. For a club who has been so innovative for half a century, they have certainly lost their way. And your point about money for good quality journalism is well made. The whole sector has been hollowed-out by the tech-revolution. The industry's response in Australia to this upheaval has been astoundingly incompetent. Hope you're not a jorno A-S. :-I

She can be a great journalist. She knows her trade, is uncompromising when she is following a story, and obviously has very strong contacts throughout the industry. All this developed in a world where the men in suits would have despised her as a woman being so strong, persistent and articulate.

But she makes the same mistake most modern sport journalists make: she reports rumour. She probably tries to substantiate it, but too often (maybe 2 out of every 7 "scoops") she will say stuff like "word out of Collingwood today", "or "there's a lot of talk at Essendon" etc...

Modern journalists must stop reporting rumour, suggestion, grievance and opinion as fact. If it is a rumour, let it be silent unless something gives it solid credibility.

Surely you're not attacking Caro based on what she's said about De Goey? Why is De Goey having time away from the club? Because he  doesn't like the responses he's received following his double-down on his so-called victimisation and excusing his behaviour because he supposedly has ADHD. Of  course he's backed away from that now following no doubt multiple consultations with Collingwood media advisors.

You don't have to like Caro without name-calling  Ridiculously over the top.

You don't seriously think that Eddie's comment was meant to mean that the  information contained in the 'Do Better Report' was something Collingwood  should be proud of, do you?. Clearly what he was trying to say was that the fact they'd investigated these issues and released a report was a positive  thing. His words were chosen poorly and yet another example of Eddie's gaffs and insensitivities, nothing more than that.

Well said. Personally I like listening to the Footyology Podcast with Rohan Connolly. I don't agree with everything said and Essendon gets too much of a run but at least it features a proper journalist rather than ex-footballers that are there just because they're ex-footballers.

If you want to listen to proper analysis concerning the Melbourne Football Club only you only need to listen to the Demonland Podcast. Better analysis than anyone on 2, 7, 9 or Fox Footy.

His mental health issues?

What are they?

Not ADHD obviously, because that is not a mental health issue, it is a neurodevelopmental disorder.

And blaming it for his behaviour is pathetic, and insuting to people with ADHD and similar neuro diverse conditions.

Good journos write without fear or favour, know how to craft a compelling story and have mastery of the English language (or whatever their lingua franca is).

In the AFL media industry, Wilson, whose affiliation with Richmond is way over-played, is a rarity amongst a sea of (mainly) blokes who are either hopelessly conflicted or plain dumb, or both.

Although I don’t always agree with her, I’d much rather read/listen to her words than anyone else’s on that FC panel. Keep interrupting, Caro!

I find that show insufferable as it seems like a competition for who can interrupt who first followed by who can be faux-confrontational the most.

Really awkward and manufactured feel.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo
