Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pickett three head high tackes in sequence all within space of 20 seconds. No free for any. His reputation for ducking, medium to good. Down the other end young Collingwood long sleeved player, one doubtful tackle amongst several, reputation average at best .High tackle doubtful  free kick, goal took the run for us  right out of the qtr

And people on here say all clear nothing to see here.

And it was quite often when that last possession or gather had to be clean and wasn't. They rebounded, scored and that was it.

As many have mentioned earlier, we’ve been flat for 5-6 weeks. I’m not sure about this training load theory. From memory that happened after the bye last year and not before it.

A couple of observations

- Why are we insisting on making the ground so wide? Time and time we had players free in the corridor but opted for the Wings/flanks. I understand turning it over there is risky and a lot of the top 4 teams are keeping width, but when we turned it over, Collingwood had so much time and space to use the corridor they cut us to ribbons.

- Teams are holding their defenders back against us now. We are a turn over side and when it’s our turn to go, we run harder than anyone. Unfortunately, teams have worked out you can’t get sucked up high against Melbourne or they’ll get out the back. We scored 2 goals off turn overs today and 0 last week. It’s diabolical and we need to figure this out. Unfortunately we don’t have the talent of a McKay or a Curnow, so Goody and Stafford need to improve that connection with the midfielders and our forwards.

- Our pressure is way off - especially  our tackling pressure. Our mids just aren’t closing space well enough.

- No Steven May really hurts and a few times Collingwood got players out the back.

You're going to tell us there was no fall of the ball at all in this game? In a game where we had repeat stoppages inside 50 and locked the ball in there?

That's bull**it Lord Nev just like you, you're bull**it.

Easy to takes marks when your unimpeded. Easy to lock the ball in opp 50 arc when you can scrag at will without penalty. Easy to hold the ball when you are not going to be penalised for doing it or just throw it or drop it..

Interesting that our current slump has bought some of the lurkers out. Quite a few low-post-number members have engaged after todays game. Nice to see them post an opinion.

Sometimes adversity brings out a persons best.

Lets see what happens after the bye and a mental reset. A few sore players might well appreciate the extra week off.

Im banking on the Demons of 2021 to appear after the break.

I am one of those lurkers and not as well informed as most on here.  For what it’s worth I went to the game and had the following observations:

- instinct - the instinctive ‘taking the first option’ from last year has gone.  They are cautious and default to looking for Multiple options and play slowly

- forward line - I watched the forwards a lot. On many occasions Mitch B and Fritsch did lead, but were ignored.  For some reason we prefer to bomb it in long to BB

- crumbers - despite the above we seem to be outnumbered at the forward packs - Fritsch / spargo / kosi / nibbler were rarely able to capitalise

- pressure - the pressure upstream was well below last year, allowing them to get chains going

- predictable - kick out to Gawn, go along the boundary - why don’t we ever go through the corridor

meanwhile Clarry, Brayshaw and petty were excellent.  The bye has come at the right time..

Weid's young and at least has a chance of improving. M Brown is done, he's a VFL player, leave him at Casey.

I wouldn't be against the idea of throwing Daw into the mix, especially if Max is hurt. B Brown was at least a target today and had patches of being decent but he had no support. Fritta is nowhere to be seen right now.

To think we started the year lauding our depth to cover positions, our depth was MASSIVELY overrated.

i thought the Mitch.Brown experiment was worth a try but it didn't work that should be the last game he's played for the club. Time for the Weid give him until the end of the year at senior level and if he can't make it then trade him off. Hopefully something will click for Weid he has the talent just doesn't produce, remember it took a long time for Gawn to click.

I think people are being a bit harsh on Turner we didn't lose it because of him he did some good things and some bad things but I'd prefer him playing than Tomlinson. He's a keeper.

Those at the ground would know better but watching up here in Qld on the [censored] box it seemed our forwards were behind most of the time albeit our entries were terrible but ever since I played juniors back in 60's was told to be in front as a forward. This gives you a chance to either mark the pill or bring it to ground. Time and again the Pies took easy marks in our forward line. We looked like a second rate forward line. BBB improved a bit from his last few outings but was caught behind to many times and when in front could not hang on to the mark. Easily spoiled. Our forwards line is a mess big time.

We may have lost the Sydney game to the umpires but we didn't today. Their forwards could score due to run and carry. We have lost that the last month. Oh please god let May be the answer to our prayers.

The biggest thing I take from that is they had a 17 day break during their bye! We have a 9 day break before being sent all over Australia for a month or so.

Obviously important to remember that Premierships are not won in June, also that last year we had some ‘scoring problems’ and a very unsettled forward line. We were kicking low scores and kept changing structure. It all came together in the end. But still a matter of concern. Forward line is clogged and players don’t lower the eyes kicking in.

Something positive is the form of James Jordon! What a player!

Losing three games in a row at the MCG is a worry too.

No home ground advantage there.

After the Jackson goal we gain possession in the middle but then proceed to butcher it instead of attacking from a centre clearance.

Winning center clearances would bring Brown and Fritsch into the game so much (i.e the grand final)

With audio you can hear Oliver let out his frustration after this play.

Tell me about it. Tommo was the obvious matchup here . Just cannot understand why you wouldn’t keep him in and instead back Turner in a game that was so important in a number of ways. Could have bought in Turner against the Crows.

My take is that its not gun key forwards we need, but rather decent ball users in the midfield. Let's face it, the guys who are delivering most of the inside 50s are Oliver, Viney, Trac, Nibbler, Langdon, Spargo, Harmes, Sparrow, Jordon the rucks and often BBB. Out of those the only decent kick is Spargo, sometimes Trac and Jordon. The rest are very average, especially when under any kind of pressure. It sucks that our best ball users are either backmen (Salem & May) or forwards (Fritsch & Spargo).

Petracca is really starting to annoy me with his lack of defensive efforts. Clarry could be better at this too, but you can't have it all. I think we're going to have to think about a more balanced combination in the guts. Having Clarry and Trac in there is weighted too heavily towards offence. I would have one or the other at every centre stoppage but not both. Maybe Harmes needs to see more centre minutes. He used to be awesome at negating  the opposition's best mid, and by god, we could sure use some negating.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
