Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Imma give this take a Kent Kingsley Award. Not sure which award specifically but it deserves some sort of recognition. It really is a special take.

Maybe trying to play the same 22 every week isn’t a good idea as players get tired?

May in for Tomlinson, B. Brown should come out but no idea who for.

Playing a stable 22 last year went a long way to us winning the flag.

Awful take.

TMac looks to be out for at least a lengthy period - he told supporters at the game tonight he could be done for the year - so bring in Weid now for a chunk of games, say 6 weeks, and give him that run at it. We really have nothing to lose, our tall forward setup has not been working at all, and this is a way we can shake it up AND give Weid a consistent go.

I disagree there are 'numerous' other options. Weid kicked 3 and took 10 marks today. Who are the other 'numerous' better options?

Weid has been given a consistent go last year and this year, and has been an abject failure. He offers nothing.

I do watch. I disagree we've been going to pockets much lately. Tonight especially it was just bomb it 35 out straight in front, and the majority of the blame is on the forwards who were just flat out not leading or moving.

We have done it all year I would go so far as the put Jackson at CHF if we continue to play this way.

Jacko needs to sort out his leading patterns as well though, was watching him closely tonight and he runs straight towards whoever the other tall forward/s is.

He doesn't move. That's the problem. I agree the entries have been poor, but when you're at the games and watch the forwards they all just plant in one spot and refuse to lead or separate.

Couldnt agree more. There were gaps to lead into and rarely did anyone lead. The next thing was a high kick into a pack that was  swept away time and again.

The forward line is a mess.

Ben Brown's far too far out of form to warrant selection next week. The problem is that there's no good replacement. It seems TMac's out for ages, and Weideman keeps putting in poor games even after he looks to have shown some AFL form.

IMO, we have no choice but to drop B Brown for Weideman and give M Brown another game. B Brown has to go find form at Casey.

Elsewhere, if Petty's fit then Tomlinson goes straight back out for May. We then need to make calls on Sparrow, Hunt and Spargo. Bedford could take Spargo's spot, and I'd be thinking about getting Hibberd into the backline for some height to help out. We're just a touch too small with Bowey, Salem, Hunt and Brayshaw back there. Hibberd's height helps take pressure of the talls, particularly when Petty's half-fit.

But that's probably only 2 or maybe 3 changes. Like last year, the improvement has to come from the core A-graders. Trac's got to turn his slump around, Viney has to fix his kicking, Lever has to fix his decision-making, Oliver has to work through his tags, and anyone delivering the ball inside 50 has to think about it before they kick it.

I think we give Mitch another 2 games and let him build up form. We move Gawn or Dogga to the F50 permanently as a replacement for Ben Brown who needs to find form in Magoos and maybe use that to build some synergy with Weid.

We can then either use Tommo or Daw to give Max the chop out. If Sam can play a good month of footy in the 2s, then and only then you give him another consideration.

Neither Tommo or Daw are playing in the team next week.

Weid is the obvious answer rather than all these wild ideas IMO.

Hibberd is listed as 186cm tall. Both Hunt and Brayshaw are actually taller then Hibberd.

But you know as well as I do that Hibberd is far better one-on-one than either of those two, and can "play tall" much better than those two.

Yes correct, which if selection was up to me then its Hunt that has to be dropped for Hibberd.

We have no key forward in any kind of form. I sya we try Petty inside 50 and leave Thommo in

And give Hibberd a run if he's fit (i don't know if he is)

Out: Hunt and Brown (not sure whether Mitch or Ben, its a toss up)

In: Hibberd and MAy

Hibberd's close.  Finished strongly in the second half today.  Is he really ready for a big clash against the Pies before the buy?

If the fitness dept & he thinks so then he is a good chance to come in for Hunt.  Hunt did ok early but seems to get a little flakey under pressure and unlike last season he is rarely involved in many chains off HB or breaking off HB like Viney did at one stage tonight for example.  Not saying he has to do so very often and might be under instruction to play a hard lock D behind the ball (ie no licence to run & break lines) but boy we just look too stagnant across HB now.

And on that point do we have too many intercept / slow players across HB now with both Salem & Bowey playing?

Does Hibb come in instead for Bowey?  Hibb gets the lock down role and Hunt plays the Bowey role but more as the transitional runner off HB breaking the lines and getting the ball forward asap hopefully to a more open forward line?

May in makes us a 2 to 4 goal better side.

Have the mids (bar Viney & Clarry) forgotten to run super hard both ways to help out more often across HB as they've gotten so used to trusting such a settled/trustworthy defence (until May went out) they are instinctively loose and not paying their opponent enough respect on occasions?  Allowing them to get off the leash through the middle too often?

Ben Brown over the last 3 games (including an 8 goal win against North):

2 marks per game.
1 tackle per game.
4.6 disposals per game.
0.6 contested marks per game.
0 goals per game.

Must be dropped.

Very sad performances - I just wonder how much is residue from Covid?  Seems to lack any energy.

Who were the others who missed with Covid?  Was Petracca one of them?  Stilllacks his previous spark.

BBB needs a rest, and I mean a rest not playing at Casey if he hasn't fully recovered.

Maybe just a bit too radical but play Max predominantly at FF, Jacko at CHF, both with some ruck duties with Majak.  From the little I saw today Majak seems do Ruch well and ruck to advantage - maybe VFL position mids aren't nearly as smart at VFL ones, but even when Max dominated the whiteouts they don't always translate to output.

If Tmac is out, i want to play Weed as the solo KPF with Max and Jacko floating through as required. Fritta is our best forward and i would love another medium tall in the team to tag along with him but frankly we dont have one. Hunt had a shocker but has played the role well in the past, maybe a mid can be used here.

Regardless both browns do not deserve to retain their spots, team structure be damned. Bedford deserves to be in over many in the team as he shows real desire and passion where others are lethargic and slow.

And we all know that hit outs mean f all. I think we have to try and expose the lack of talls in pies D50 and Maxy at FF will take Moore.

It does come at a cost though - Howe will take MOTY on him.

I have a left field idea. What about throwing Petty forward? He started there in his career and looked decent. We know he can take a mark, we know he's competitive when the ball hits the deck. Leave Tommo in, drop Ben Brown, swing Harry forward

Drop Ben Brown.. that’s all we need to hear…I couldn’t care if we play a small forward line. The bloke is a complete liability atm. Playing a man short (pun not intended) with him FF. What is he offering? Atm, absolutely nothing

in: Rivers, May

out: Brown, Brown

FB: Hunt May Tugboat
HB: Salem Lever Rivers
C; Brayshaw Petracca Langdon
HF: ANB Harmes Spargo
FF: Pickett Petty Fritsch
Foll: Gawn Oliver Viney
Int: Jackson, Bowey, Jordon, Sparrow

Gus and Lever are both too intercept happy, can’t have both in the same backline.

JJ is playing well but he’s so slow to kick and at times looks for the structure too much rather than handing over an opponent or folding back. Use him as 3rd winger and on ball to give more run

Time for a complete reset with the key forwards. Harmes can provide run at CHF, rotating with Petracca, Sparrow etc as a smaller line up.

Petty  forward as the main marking target. Leaves us vulnerable with the tugboat down back but he can’t be much worse than tonight and May should help him.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
