Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Demons fans, next week at the game cheer hard and loud for Adam Tomlinson. Hasn’t dropped his head, continued to work hard and deserves his shot. We need guys like him being professional and giving it their all regardless of what level they are playing. I have a lot of admiration for players like him and Mitch Brown.

Absolutely, fab leaders & book ends for the young fellas at Casey as well.  Although not on the list White & Munro also stand up week after week.

SURVIVAL MODE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons managed to survive a day of challenges that in many ways mirrored their AFL counterpart Narrm from the previous day but Casey emerged undefeated from their Round 10 encounter with Frankston at Skybus Stadium.

Like the Demon seniors they were undermanned and lost players due to late withdrawals, went through an arm wrestle in the first quarters, took over the game in the second to set up a big lead before a late goal gave hope to their opponent and limped through a last half in which goals were scarce and they were dominated in general play as they went into survival mode.

The major difference was that the Dolphins were inaccurate in front of goal and the Demons managed to hit their targets enough times to win the game. The final score of 10.6 (66) to 6.12 (48) told the story.

The Demons can thank their key defenders in Adam Tomlinson and Daniel Turner for stemming the tide. Tomlinson was magnificent all day with his 28 disposals while Turner with his strong marking early (he finished with seven marks and 14 touches) was also impressive.

With the late withdrawal of ruckman Majak Daw and the team down to a season’s low of 11 AFL listers, the visitors relied heavily on their local players and a number of them stood up. Jimmy Munro, the ever reliable notched up 14 tackles and 22 possessions and Mitch White was steady all day while youngster, George Grey played his best game for the club. Normally a flanker, he was thrust by circumstances into the midfield and played a strong role in his side’s win. During the team’s second quarter burst he won a clearance and linked up in a chain of passes to finish off the play with a nice goal. Josh Smith worked hard in the ruck for 25 hit outs. He was solid around the ground and also kicked a steadying goal for his team on debut.

Corey Ellison, who has been played down back when selected this year, went forward and combined well with Mitch Brown. Between them, they booted five goals in the first half. Ellison’s three goals were reminiscent of his goal kicking heroics against Werribee last year. Riley Baldi produced an excellent defensive display for the Demons.

Oskar Baker (20 disposals) provided plenty of run on the outside and Deakyn Smith also underlined his improvement in defence while Taj Woewodin was solid and kicked a vital long goal when needed in the final stanza.

The undefeated Casey Demons have a big day out planned for next Saturday when they take on the Sydney Swans in the curtain raiser to the AFL match up at the MCG.

Disappointing that JVR didn't play as I'm sure many supporters are keen to see his progression

Of the demon listed players that played Tomlinson and Turner the best by some margin

Deakyn Smith, Woewodin, and McVee played their part. Mitch Brown is good at attacking the ball in the air and bringing it to ground but he's another Weideman I think (just not quite there to consistently contribute in the AFL)

Pretty disappointing games from Laurie - those calling for him to play AFL are way off the mark atm

Fitness and experience I reckon was the main factor. Casey pretty much used the same 4 on ballers, including White and Grey (who should be half forwards) and Baldi who’s depth down back usually. Big Smith did well in the ruck but tired and started badly mistiming his jumps and Milford wasn’t much of a back up.

Buntine went down back once Hibbo was done for the day which took away the 3rd wing. And then the small forwards (both afl and VFL listed) all haven’t played much. Long bomb kick outs rely on the mids and half forwards winning the contests once it hits the ground and our guys seemed pretty spent.

Possibly some of the AFL listed guys weren’t 100% as well.

Frankston look light on for depth but their midfield has some afl experience and maturity. They got well on top in that area. Was actually nice to see the crowd get fired up

With names like that, no wonder the midfield looked bland. Having Brown in the side doesn't help much, either.

Rosman, Laurie, Moniz-Wakefield all below 10 disposals. Disappointing that Laurie & Rosman as second year players aren't starting to string together strong performances in a good side at this level.

Buntine doesn't seem to have found his feet either. Plenty of upside for Casey when these guys get going.

Good to see Tomlinson setting a high standard for his younger teammates.

Agree with the bulk of this except the comparison of Mitch to Weid is slightly off IMV in terms of the opportunites that Mitch has had to prove where he is at at AFL level.   He just hasn't had the same opportunities at the MFC.

Would love to see him given a block of at least 3 to 4 matches to see if he can settle in alongside BBB and/or Plugga Mac.  Probably aint gonna happen though.

And yes ppl will say "no way we are playing 3 talls, who comes out for Mitch if Plugga and BBB are both playing?"

Well sometimes you just have to roll the die and try a different make up up forward.   Maybe Fritsch misses a week or BBB if he fails to fire a shot again this week.

Lucifer knows our forward set up barring occasional cameos from Fritsch & Plugga is generally struggling this season.  Can't be sure but our forward conversion vs inside 50s ratio this season to last must be significantly off.  If we continue like this it's bound to come back and bite us at some point.

Either the current group has to shift into a gear greater than 2nd or we start trialling other options well before finals appear so we can comtinue with whatever version is working and able to get us into 3rd gear, hopefully higher!

He's the only bloke that you can trust around goals these days.

No way would you drop a player who's kicked 22 goals in 10 games, and is on pace to kick 50 goals this year if we make the finals.

Out if the three (Ros, Laurie & Moniz), i would take 12 to 15  posessions from Moniz any day of the week vs say 20 to 25 from the other two.  His disposal by foot is at another level.

Yes i know, they're all playing completely diff roles/positions but Moniz (very early days and not getting too excited but hopeful) appears to offer the exciting opportunity of finishing off some good work up the field more often than not and, most importantly, finding targets coming inside 50 with the final money kick.  Imagine him (developed) and Spargo feeding the ball to BBB,  Fritsch, Macca & others (Kozzie) on the lead.

Probably a season or two away but it's a tasty thought if he makes it.  Will he?  I have a sneaking suspicion we'll be seeing him making a very nice entre' sometime during season 2023.

Yeh i agree BBP.  More thinking if a "managed" situation arises between now and finals.  I reckon we should have managed a few over the Eagles/Norf buys.  Not saying Fritta either ... just saying.   Think we saw the result of not taking this line (partially... was also alot to do with key personnel out & a little with Trac  being crook) in the Freo 2nd half.

A lot with Trac bring crook and why do some of us go overboard with some being  managed ?
Seems some want it for no real reason just because other Clubs do it!
Was the worst competitive team named and far more worse when May and McDonald were not on the ground.
Think Bedford should stay as he is looking promising.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
