Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If they're the best match-up waiting for us in September I'm relieved😅. I agree that they have the personal to negate some of the creativity and production of our best players but I just don't think they're well drilled enough generally and especially in Voss's first year to match us.

Only need to look what happened when they played freo a few weeks back, and that team is a pale imitation of us. Blues biggest issue will be limiting us to under 80-90 points as I’m fairly certain we won’t let them get more than 60 or so , if they can do that then maybe they would have a chance

“Why <media commentator> thinks <team> are the ones to beat Melbourne”

Get used to reading this rubbish until we drop a game. I’ll believe a team can match up well against us after they beat us, not before. And even then I might not worry about playing them in September.

Carlton and Brisbane will be seen as our threats until we play them. There is always a headline to be made out of speculation

But Carlton at it's best is certainly equipped to give us a good challenge, especially now their biggest weakness (defence) has been improved by the fantastic return of Docherty.

Good mids, bloody good forwards and an improved game plan.

Would be nice to maul them prior to finals.

The Blues certainly look impressive, but whenever they have struggled, both in patches of games and more generally in games they've lost, it's because oppositions' defences have shut down their run-and-gun, and we have the best shut down defence.

Yeah and they're more helter skelter all the time whereas we're measured and pick our moments. I feel like it could tax them more as the season goes on.

I must be way behind..

I'm still at the part where St Kilda were going to finally end our streak and stamp themselves as the new premiership contender?

Just wait until we actually lose a game. The knives will be out and our dynasty will be declared over. And that's just from the Demonlanders ....

I agree that Carlton at their best are probably the biggest threat we have. i don't think the Lions style stands up in big finals, Dockers aren't there yet and Swans are inconsistent.

In saying that i am coming to terms with the fact we are just comfortably the best side in it, the same commentators thought the Saints had us ripe for the picking, and in a half of football we entered beast mode, sat them on their backsides and went back into cruise control.

Carlton are playing the best they can play. They are extremely reliant on Curnow and McKay, so if they don't kick a bag then they are less likely to win. We rely on no one player, that's the difference.

Plus their defensive work is pretty average. I would actually say when up and going the Lions forwards are the most dangerous. But as we have seen good defence often beats a good offence.

Carlton are biggest threat as far as tripping and pushing (Silvagni and their FB goes) and greasing to gullible Umpires (Cripps Silvagni and both forwards goes). The rest are  just peripherals.

They went extremely quiet after that game..

Oh and just noticed that for this amazing attacking side, they have actually scored 6 less points than us for the year but let in an extra 233.

Our attack doesn't get enough credit we're averaging just under 94 points a game and have actually had more scoring shots this season than Brisbane who average 106. Inaccuracy is the only thing keeping us from averaging over 100 as well, we certainly have plenty of opportunities to score.

10 hours ago, whatwhat say what said:

i don't disagree

but i think our midfield won't allow them repeated easy exits and f50 entries, our defensive workrate will stop their ball movement off half back, and our backline is as stingy as they come

Agree. I think this hysteria around Carlton is totally overblown, fanned by ex Blue-baggers in the media. Still, if it takes space from Caroline Wilson’s relentless propaganda about the Tigers it will be a relief. She can’t help herself that woman. l could list them, but there seems little point. I used to think she was one of the more astute journos on AFL issues, but this year it has become a single minded focus on all things Tiger almost to the exclusion of all else. She finished her summary of last week’s matches by the single sentence on the Dees “l don’t know what to say about melbourne”, and then left it.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
