Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Still not good enough.

We have 60k members and yet could only bring in 13k for today.

I made the 4 1/2 trip down to watch the game and the atmosphere was pathetic.

Look I feel ya. I also made the trip but I totally get why many didn’t.
Firstly if you don’t have a home and away membership like me, why would you pay to watch what you know will be a bad game? Secondly that stadium is awful.
Thirdly this start time is a joke, I got home after 9. If you have kids, forget it. And lastly when I have to wait 32 minutes at Southern Cross for a train on Saturday evening after a game of footy, I understand why people stay home. It is a complete disgrace. Almost 2 hours to get home today and I live 45km away not 200km away.

I reckon there was 5,000 North supporters there, but they booed and whinged as if there was 50,000 of them. The atmosphere was weird, and only got stranger with Norths insistence on making their ‘activations’ as American as possible.

It just doesn’t feel like a football ground. It’s like a big basketball stadium. They’ve added giant screens, but all they do with them is run commercials on the side - so you don’t get to see anything at a better resolution. It’s a dud stadium. If the AFL had its time again they’d do a lot differently.

We dominated time in forward half and generated 30 scoring shots whilst conceding only 13. Inaccuracy meant the margin was 47 instead of 77. We continue to deploy the same method each week, treating each opponent equally, and assuming each one brings its best.

North's only played one game as well as they played today, and that was when the led Sydney in the fourth quarter in Round 4.

West Coast last week probably hasn't brought that level of application in any other game this year barring perhaps its win over Collingwood.

I don't really know, or care, why that is, because we won't be playing North or West Coast in September. What I care about is that we approach games wanting to play our brand, and each week we play our brand. So on a night where we went in with four premiership players missing, lost a fifth in the first quarter, appeared to end with another one or two injured, when our opponent lifts, we turn it over too much, and we miss easy shots on goal, we still generated 30 scoring shots to 13, with 40 more inside 50s, and won by 47.

We should have spanked them.

Thats a win for North.

inaccurate as always, we are primed for a finals upset.

Along with the Eagles, North concede the most amount of points and inside 50s against yet we looked to be going uphill for 75% of the game

I imagine if anyone had said that about one of our losses in 2013, you would have gone ballistic.

As to "inaccurate as always" - tonight was the third time this year that we've scored more behinds than goals. That's 30%. Not "always".

If North keep racking up the losses they could start playing AFL games at Arden St again. They won't get 8,000 through the gates against GWS next week.

They'll probably get the same crowd as today. North supporters stayed away today. They'll show up a bit more next week.

They certainly won't get 8,000 through the gates against GWS next week.

They play St Kilda, away, not GWS.

Some of you just don’t know how long a footy season is to play. The fact that we won so convincingly when they obviously steeled themselves for this, is testament to the great group we have.

Also, we are in better form than last year. That doesn’t mean anything for the end of the year but we are in another great spot.

you´re in denial. Carlton , Brisbane and Free are going to beat us convincingly the way we are playing. It s being disguised by a fairly soft draw and our inability to play 4 qtrs of footy is being spun as ´Melbourne finding another gear´. reality is we arent the best side at the moment and maybe free but definitely the carlton and bris games are going to be a big wake up call for a few on here.

Remember last year, when we lost to Adelaide in Round 10, and had Brisbane and the Dogs in the next fortnight, and everyone said "you'll see, we're not good enough", and then we beat them both convincingly?

"Inability to play 4 qtrs of footy" - we won all four quarters today and we lead the competition for quarters won, having won 31 of the 40 we've played. Next best is Richmond on 27. Fremantle could win all four quarters tomorrow and they'd get to 28.

"Fairly soft draw" - we've beaten 5th and 8th, as well as 9th and 10th. Carlton's beaten 7th and 8th, as well as 9th and 10th. Brisbane's beaten 7th...and 10th...

i always forget how much i loathe going to docklands; it's a glorified car park - and it is absolutely FREEZING in there

not surprised there was less than 15k there; was right on my expectations for the crowd and the result - we wasted opportunities but we were, for the most part, very professional in the way we went about it

lousy time slot, shocking opposition, horrible stadium

I was one of the 13,000 at the ground. It was genuinely such a weird vibe for the first quarter. It had all the feeling of a preseason game.

I also think that stadium plays very differently to any other ground. North tried to work through our zone with precision short kicking that in all seriousness they couldn’t execute on at any other ground. The surface is like carpet. It’s like the difference between indoor soccer and soccer. The basic skills are the same, but the games play entirely differently.

I thought we just had a better quality of player, and that was the difference. Both teams tried hard.

Yeah I was there too and I agree - the Roos also came out to play and were hitting us hard. Bottom team with nothing to lose after being smashed in the media for two weeks while we struggle to really get fired up to play against a bottom team. Despite that we won by 8 goals and would've been 12-15 goals had we not been so inaccurate (and they had not been as accurate).

Anyone complaining needs their head read, we were never losing this. We are undefeated with the biggest percentage after 10 rounds. How often does this come round? Enjoy it for God's sake, this is the best period in my life as a Melbourne supporter and maybe it will be the best period I ever experience. I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

By the way 13600 what a ****ful crowd that is not worthy of an AFL game! Two local teams playing under roof on a Saturday arvo and it's 13600? Fair enough North supporters not turning up but where were the 60k Melbourne members?? Disgraceful.

Hey Jaded - fair points one & all. My membership doesn't cover away games but I was interested in going to Docklands this week. So I got onto Ticketdisaster. According to them, "least expensive" seats were 55 bucks on Level 4 and "best seats" were about 75 bucks on L1. Hard to justify I thought.

Strangely. on the telecast it appeared L4 was either closed or so sparsely populated that a crowd was undetectable.. Will have to have a closer look when I watch the replay

The top level was open on the camera side wing but the rest of it was shut.

They couldn't really be charging $55 to get in could they? That is farcical.

Just watching replay. The constant barrage against Melksham and Dunstan hard to fathom. They are depth players not world beaters. Both solid contributors some people need to take blinkers off. Dees are getting fair share of injuries post COVID but still undefeated. Building pole position for another crack at flag. That a fact despite some rampant negativity on this site.

Pros:

- We got the 4pts (and makes it 10-0 to start the year, one better than last season)

- TMac continues to hit the scoreboard

- Fritta got 3

- Oliver continued his bloody good year

Cons:

- seems likely a costly day medically speaking; Lingers, TMac, Gus, even Trac at one point all looked very sore/injured

- our goal kicking failed to put a team away earlier again

- our inside 50 efficiency continues to be sub-par

I’ll also put a question to Demonland: are we playing arrogant and will it come back to bite us?

I just feel watching us the last couple of weeks we almost don’t care against lesser opposition. They seem to go hard for a period and then leave it at that, the hunger hasn’t there recently.

Next week is a massive game, we play like we’ve been playing the last two weeks and we will fall to Freo.

Happy to bank the 4 points and move on, but I hope there boys will be switching on through the week. Oh, and how Brown managed to miss that soda in his 150th is beyond me. One of his worst games for the club, shame it had to come against his old side.

EDIT one other thought: Luke Jackson hasn’t been on for a while. Not suggesting he get dropped but any thoughts on why this could be?

I thought Dogga provided a good support in the ruck, heck he even looked better than Gawn during the first half.

What is denial but the refusal to accept objective facts; who won the flag last year after losing to 17th, 15th and drawing with 14th?

That’s a rhetorical question.

We will see what the next two weeks bring and what that means for this year but maybe you’re the one who needs to give themselves up to the truth; we are the standard in the league and even our form will fluctuate like any team’s does, but we are still the standard.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
