Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well neither of these teams will challenge this year. Defense wins premierships, and neither of these teams can defend against momentum to save themselves. Pray one of them finishes fourth so we get a free ride into the prelim.

It really is a pity we don't play them until round 22.

Taking advantage on their complete folding like deck chairs in the second half would be sweet to watch.

Newman gets caught by Franklin at full back, doesn't bother trying to dispose of it, drops it, play on.

Warner gets caught by Owies with little prior, drops it, holding the ball.

Would be infuriating to be a Swans supporter seeing that.

Although to be fair, they've had their chances and squandered too many of them.

Yep I’d lose my 💩if that was Melbourne playing. You pay that, as it should have been, It’s 3 points with about 3 mins to go and the Swans probably win it from there.

Blues got away with it tonight.

Wouldn't a comeback ala GF 2021 be so sweet?

Hahaha the long faces of the brown baggers in the 4th were priceless 😂😂

Yeah and fat chance they kick 9 goals in a quarter against us. If they don’t pile on a massive lead in the first half they can’t win.

Look, I think Carlton's gameplan is flawed too, but in all our losses last year our opponents went hell for leather and took us on through the middle. Carlton will do the same and have the talent to score against our backline.

The way to beat Carlton is not exactly hidden - breakeven in contested possession. They are like the Dogs and a bit like us in 2018 - their one-wood is the middle, and if they don't dominate in the middle they are capable of being opened up defensively.

Lovely to see all  those Carlton supporters still alive and hear the best booers in the comp.Thirty odd extra free kicks and they're still at it.

Why can't we get umpires like that.Is it patented brown paper bags or just the way they address the Umpires."please sir, can I have some more"

Dogs play the same way and kicked 8 in a row against us in Round 1.

(just playing devil's advocate here)

May Lever and Petty are a brick wall. Good Luck to Curnow and McKay against that!

I am pretty sure our Ruck dominance would also give us the edge in the midfield

Carlton are like us in 2018. All out attack. It’s exciting to watch, but incapable of winning a premiership. Until they learn to defend properly, they won’t challenge for a premiership.

Blues are a clear level below us and Brisbane. Freo have lost form recently but defend well so have a gamestyle that will stand up better in finals.

I just think their game plan is very similar to the Dogs of last year.

All gun and blazing but their defence is a lot to be desired.

If we are able to match them in the contested footy like Sydney did in the 2nd half then I'd back our troops to win

Their midfield really went to water once Sydney heaped pressure on them in the 2nd half.

Fremantle are the dark horse for me purely on their defence which is rated pretty much similar to us.

If they can get Fyfe back and playing string footy then sky's the limit with the dockers.

I believe the Dees were like 3rd or 2nd on the ladder that year around this time. Then we plateaud, finished 5th before the finals.

Outplayed by a much experienced and complete team in the Weagles.

Swans lost this. Blues didn't win it plus umpires helped Blues immensely. Some shocking NON decisions against swans and what about Cripps in the 2nd qtr i think. Arms out and mouthing off but no 50. Oh well I suppose different rules for the so called big names and teams!!!. All for respect to the umpires in general but they also  have to earn the respect. The game is going down hill in quick time.

I agree this was more about the Swans and also think the umps helped them a lot. When they needed a holding the ball, they got it.

This result sucks, I tipped Sydney and I'm really wanting a Carlton loss soon. I need it.

And one thing you can count on in finals is defensive pressure and a hugely contested performance from the Dees across all 4 quarters.

Anyone who thinks the umpires or Sydney have anything to do with this doesn't know what they're watching

I said it after our pre season loss and will say it again now - if you watch Carlton closely they have found a formula. Contested stuff off the chart - ride tackles as well as any team, serious serious front half pressure, killer key forwards - that's all obvious. But watch their contest stuff - they outnumber, they space well, and they've reached the tipping point good teams do where they have so much confidence in winning the contest they're taking risks while teammates are getting tackled.

Intangible stuff is high too - a team in unison, working for each other, clearly in sync.

3rd year I think under Andrew Russell - they've found the running power that takes a few years to build.

Doing it ATM without their #1 ruck, Coleman medallist, and a host of others - there's serious depth there.

8-2 - not had the easiest draw - they absolutely have to be taken seriously. Anything less than a prelim is a failure for them.

Hope it's not against us (serious 2018 Richmond v Collingwood vibes) as they are genuinely the only team that could overpower us both in the midfield and particularly with Curnow, McKay and their honest worker small fwds.

How they go in Finals is the only unknown - with Voss at the helm and the way they're playing I don't think anything will scare them.  They'll be there right to the very end.

Don't you just hate to see it

Sure Carlton have improved from the bottom 6 side they have been for years but you are getting carried away imo. Aside from Weitering their defence is poor. O Mac would walk into that back line if fit. Their midfield is strong and the twin towers if fit are formidable but we are far superior and they hold no fear for me.

i do rate Voss though and I like their pressure and game plan

like my mates keep telling me - it’s ours to lose this year 😬

Blues have quite the injury list atm if the can get there best 22 on the park they will be as dangerous as anyone else, I still think we are a level above everyone but I could just as easily see blues in a grand final vs us as anyone. Rounds 22 and 23 will be quite interesting, will anyone show there cards and go all out or will it be saved for the weeks after

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
