Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How ironic BBB plays his 150th against his former club. But well done to him. I must admit when we used to p[lay aginst him it would bug me with his run up. How things change when he becomes part of your team.

He helped us win a premiership and I hope the team win for him against his former club.

Congrats on your milestone match.

Congrats on your milestone match.

Always wanted Brown in our colors when he was with Norf.

He will end up a dual or triple premiership player now. A nice bloke with lots of bling around his neck.

Congrats Ben. And thanks for crossing over to us.

I also prefer his style with us more so than how he played with North.

When he played with them, he was a lead up full forward who could pluck a grab on a lead. He also had an infuriating habit of throwing his arms and legs out like a drunken giraffe to milk free kicks. He was my most disliked player at North because of that.

Since he's come to us, he has been a spillage creator extraordinaire: always willing to get a hand in to a contested ball in the air. If he's not doing that, he is using those Inspector Gadget arms to grab the ball at it's highest peak. No forward besides maybe Peter Wright can grab it at a higher point than him.

Getting to know more about him and his values, he is now one of my favorite players. Funny how that works out.

Congrats Benny. I doubt it will happen simply because of your age, but I'd love to see you get to a 100 games with us so you can get your name on the locker: a first at Melbourne for number 50 too!

I don't want to sidetrack another thread so this is said respectfully.

You base your player ratings on the persons values??? Col, that is, ah, unusual..

You nailed the first 2 paragraphs. His style has certainly changed since he crossed to us. Much more contested aerial work in his play now. I reckon that is a feather in the cap of our coaching team. They have turned him into a weapon.

Fair enough and I'm happy to answer. 🙂

I don't view performance as the sole indicator as to why someone is a favorite of mine.

Cam Pedersen was a favorite player of mine as the bloke worked at Bunnings while pursuing his dream to be an AFL football until he finally got his first break with North. Those are values I respect even though he was a reasonable footballer at best.

I also loved Jimmy Stynes as a player because of his story and values (though him being a more than handy player didn't hurt). ☝️

And with every game he stretches his record as the most in the #50 guernsey. Go Benny!

Also ironic that he played his first game against us as well.

He well and truely got me riled when he played us that year, I think even more so the second time we played them at Docklands.  It was a game I thought we should have been more than compeditive in and should have won, but they rolled us again, BBB went on to kick a bag of 3 goals or so and all the comentators could talk about was how rubbish the MFC were, but how North had found a good player in BBB.

Couldn't believe our luck when he chose to come to us when North pretty much gave home away only a year or so after he'd accumulated more goals over a 3 year period than any other player in the comp.  My youngest son has a jumper with the No.50 on it.

Congratulations BBB.  150 games and a premership player for the Red and Blue - you've done well.

My son-in-law supports NM and when we recruited BB he said he was glad he has gone because he was useless once the ball hit the ground.

After the grand final he said he could not believe how much BB has improved playing for the MFC.

We must be developing players well when a player on the cusp of 150 can improve his game in just over 1 season.

I didn't have the hate that some had when he played for North. In fact, I admired how actually good he was and hard to stop when he was at his absolute peak.

I think the AFL industry really underrate just how good BB career has been. 3 years in a row he kicked over 60+ goals including a bag of 10 in one game and was very unlucky not be a Coleman Medallist in all 3. What's even more bewildering was he never got an AA look in any of those years.

Congrats on the 150th Benny.. hopefully he kicks 7 and stick it right up them.

That sounds like one of those stupid things that football supporters say because they saw it once. It's a bit like Ed LaNgDoN iS a BuTcHeR from Freo fans when he came here - sure you don't want him attempting laser passes to a teammate who's swamped by 4 oppoonents, but by and large he is competent. At ground level, of course you'd prefer Kozzie, but it was never sensible to call him "useless", and he hasn't miraculously improved since coming to the MFC.

I remember his first game. Even though he didn't kick a bag, I remember he took a few good contested marks and was thinking this rookie is making us look bad, and thought he would be a player.

Interestingly, his first game for us was against North as well.

I look at Langdon and along with most good judges who have said his kicking has improved since Mark Williams has taken him under his wing.

Sometimes opposition supporter when a player leaves the club they want him to fail because he is no longer one of their players.

I look at May, Lever, Langdon, Tomlinson, Brown x 2, Daw, Dunstan, Hibberd and Melksham who in some way have contributed to the success we are now having.

A lot of those players have filled holes allowing the younger players to flourish and become AFL Standard along with some improvement in their own football.

Congrats Benny - looking forward to you getting to 200!

Fabulous addition for this club.

The last loss i saw was against GWS last year at the G and had BBB been brought in a week or so earlier for that match i reckon we probably would have won that as well.

Our forward line just isnt as effective without a fully fit and firing BBB.

Super hard match up for the opp and means plugga gets the 2nd best defender which is real handy for us.

Understands the nuances of forward craft also with a deft hand in to spoil the opp, lovely kicks around the corner, short passes to a free player in a better spot on occasions, doesnt get sucked up the ground as often as some recognising the benefit of holding a tall forward deep for the joe the goose or fat side mark on the lead etc.

Draws a few extra frees also because of the height factor.

What a way to celebrate his 150 against his old mob.  Hope he kicks 10!

It’s been said multiple times but just how good has our trading been! Lever, May, Langdon and Brown. All of them add so much. When he came bk in last year he gave us the final piece in the puzzle imo.

How we got him fr a mid second rounder still surprises me. Great bloke, great footballer. A pillar in our premiership side. congrats on 150.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
