Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is David Noble the new Mark Neeld?

no, Roos built solid foundations

It wasn’t pretty footy under Roos. Defensive, uncontested footy as we couldn’t two way run at that stage. But built foundations.

To be fair, you could’ve said the same thing about Paul Roos with us 9 years ago.

But Roos was never going to coach again after finishing his tenure with us. 🧐

The % improved. That was stage 1

Roos appointment was a Success, Noble has been disastrous. Now it may be beyond his control, but who else would go in there to have their career ruined

North are doing worse under Noble than we did under Neeld, according to this article.

Forget curing diseases and flying to Mars, I want to invest in virtual reality technology that allows us to play classics like Melbourne 2013 vs North 2022. I think we'd just win but it would be a ripper.

Neeld very lucky to get three of his five wins against GWS when they were rubbish. If nothing else - and there isn't much - he can say he was 3-0 against Kevin Sheedy and coached our highest scoring fourth quarter of all time.

That GWS game WAS one of the most fun games to watch though.

Michael Evans kicked 3 goals in that last quarter. A star in the making! He got delisted the next year, with a year to run on his contract if I remember rightly.

At least the AFL will give them a bunk up with priority picks that they refused to give us when we were languishing at the bottom of the table and performing just as badly.

They gave us something far better than priority picks. They gave us Peter Jackson and Paul Roos. If they'd just given us priority picks we would probably have wasted them either by making poor selections or not giving them the right environment in which to develop properly. Or both.

I suspect North will need something similar.

If I were North, I'd be making Angus Brayshaw a Godfather offer. He's got the talent, family connection to the club, leadership, Premiership experience and he's a free agent. If I were Brayshaw, I'd be torn between staying with a very successful club or being set up for life post-football.

The main similarity between Noble & Neeld is of course that it will never be known if they could have been an effective coach if only they had been at a functional club.

North have been screwed ever since their 'war chest' seasons where they dumped their still-performing veterans and banked up salary cap to attract... um... was it Jared Polec?

Missing Cunnington and with Ziebell clearly overwhelmed, by my reckoning that leaves just Luke McDonald and Todd Goldstein as mature players who can provide guidance and consistency to the group. No offense to Hall, Greenwood, Anderson, Walker and Corr, but they aren't that kind of leader.

Meanwhile, Horne-Francis has an idea of what might be best for him, and it isn't following in the footsteps of Jack Grimes and Jack Trengove, burdened with carrying both the hopes and the midfield of his club.

Throw in the fact that half the clubs in the competition are in search of competitive tall forwards and defenders, and there is a real danger they could lose one or both of Nick Larkey and Ben McKay. If they lose one, add an entire season to their rebuild duration. If they lose both, North have no structure left anywhere on the ground.

 It has been 11 rounds since North came within seven goals of an opponent, and their only win for the season was this;

The Kangaroos have narrowly survived an almighty scare from a desperately undermanned West Coast outfit, holding on for a 15-point victory thanks to six goals from Nick Larkey on a chaotic day at Marvel Stadium.

Despite being forced to make a whopping 14 changes to their Round 1 side — a VFL/AFL record — the depleted Eagles remained within striking distance of David Noble’s side for the entire game.

I don't see how North recover from their current situation. This is ruining my morning coffee.

Highest scoring Q4 in our history achieved by one of the worst coaches. Makes no sense.

hard to disagree, especially if they set it up so that his dad is the new ceo too

the issue being that their second obvious leader - luke mcdonald - is essentially playing the same role as gus is now, as a half back interceptor / set-up player behind the ball

Tomlnson was great last year before injury.

This year he has been fantastic at Casey, but put in a poor one against the Swans.

I would have tried him up forward, to see if he could have helped the totally out of form BBB, while Tom is out.

With Turner coming along well, that will put pressure on him, but he is not useless.

I would  go hard for Larky because I am a heartless biatch.

He would fix one of our remaining two areas of concern immediately, but realistically we would be no chance to get him. The AFL would probably try and veto any deal.

While I don’t mind Tomlinson, I would offer any and all of him, Chandler, Laurie, Baker and Melksham to get Larkey.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
