Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ooops!  Spelling error.

Should be Byrnes (Shannon).  Played 23 games for us 2013-2014.  Until this year our development coach then poached by Geelong.

North Melbourne did this to themselves.

They finished mid table for a decade, and hence were never in a position to acquire top end talent, both in the draft or trade period.

They then decided it was time to rebuild and bottom out hard, and dumped literally every mature player. That left them with a list of inexperienced kids and a massive reliance on 2 older heads one who is sadly battling cancer and one who is quickly coming to the end.

They should have learned from the Bailey experience. Pretty much how that unfolded.

It's one thing to want to "get games into the kids as a group". It's another to have them learning some recognisable kind of footy while they're doing it.

Without older wiser heads, you end up with a bunch of kids young men who got games into them as a group, who have no idea how to win.

For those that didn't watch On The Couch they talked about the comparison with the Dees of 2013 at the top of the show.

Gaz: “St Kilda got the cheat sheet from the Hawks (vs. us) match but forgot to bring it on Sunday.” LOL.

Yep, we also had lots of great draft picks that we wasted, which didn't help.

At least they have some decent kids they have picked up recently. Their issue will be keeping them together if they continue to get thrashed.

I think Byrnes’ contribution came more when he became our welfare officer. He was basically cooked when he turned up in 2013 and didn’t get near the onfield impact Cross, Vince or Lewis had (albeit that they were on the home straight of their respective careers).

True but he was still a 'mature body' to help the kids and gave us some leadership before the other 3 arrived.

As someone else mentioned in this thread, just because Brisbane appointed a 55-60 year old journey man assistant coach/long term administrator that turned out to be a success story, it didn't simply mean that this was the template going forward that North should follow.

You'd have to imagine that Noble would not have been even remotely considered if it were not for Fagan's success story (albeit no flag to show yet)

I still don't understand why they traded Brown for peanuts.

They either should have kept him to help their young forwards, take the best defender away and be a great role model on and off the field, or they should have traded him a year earlier when he was in great form/fitness for a premium.

I understand Brown was not treated very well by them in the hub, which meant he could have walked anyway as he was OOC, but the whole thing was handled poorly, and knowing the character of Ben Brown I doubt he would have left them high and dry anyway.

Either way, thank you North.

And now this:

Slobbo and Gerard asked him if he saw himself at North long term and he gave the cliché answer that he's a loyal guy that loves the club. But you could tell that he found the question awkward to answer and hates getting flogged week in week out.

I don't like North at all but I'd be disappointed if JHF ditched them at the earliest oppo.

Also a completely different club at a completely different lifecycle stage.

Brisbane had a decent list with some good players already hitting their prime.

North need a culture builder and someone who can nurture and nourish a young club and get that buy in. I think McRae at Collingwood is doing just that and he would have been a better option for them. Hell even Sam Mitchell who I thought would be terrible seems to have his team up and about.

I guess the difference is that both Collingwood and Hawthorn still have some really good solid older leaders who can help the coach drive new strategies. North just have no leadership. Cunnington is a massive loss for them.

I have always believed that coaches are their worst enemy after a bad loss because after the game they should not address the players unitl they have thought things thru even waiting until monday to address the elephant in the room.

It is too easy to say something outlandish after a bad defeat even during a gameyou have to be composed to get a message across to fatigued minds and bodies.

The one thing I found interesting was when channel 7 went into the rooms after the a game and the interviews were on players were sitting in groups with the line coaches and were having a chat about the game this apparently is a normal thing for them to have a short debrief before the Monday training session, just a different way to tell them what went right and what went wrong and what will be worked on during the week.

North have ruined there own future. They got rid of 90% of their Senior Players.
Ben Brown is playing magnificent footy after his knee was sorted.

I have zero sympathy for them. I feel sorry for Noble,  Clarko would struggle with this team, who will they beat this year?

Agree.  It took Goody a couple of seasons to get the players to buy in, and that requires patience and an ability to relate, especially to younger players.

Noble is 9 years older than Goody so I doubt he will be successful, should have been head of the football dept instead.

Don't blame JHF for going elsewhere and if his father gets a job at another club it is  on.....😀

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
