Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We are ALL entitled to an opinion, and thankfully this site allows us to express it provided we don't go throwing abuse at each other.

I think the club (and League) is doing more than enough to recognize our indigenous people and don't think the name change is necessary. Am I getting worked up over it? Not at all, and certainly not as much as you are about someone expressing an opinion you don't like.

Please refrain from asking me to keep mine to myself from this point forward

faulty.

I am worked up? Ok. And I said I would prefer you keep it to yourself; entirely your prerogative to make it known how you feel about something like this.

I, and plenty of other Demons, love what we are doing for those whose land always is and always was.

Thanks rp, I would just add; you only have to listen to Steven May at the launch to understand how much it means to him/them. Comments regarding the jumper design is very much a personal taste thing.

I really like it for the story it tells; literally painted by a proud young indigenous woman.

Easiest switch from our standard would surely be:

"Naa-arrm clap clap clap"

I can't always hear the cheer squad from where I sit, but I'll be listening carefully and will follow their lead.

(Does anyone else remember the weird era where it became a two-clap chant?)

Not entirely true. Demonland just moved to these message boards in 2005. There are a few around here still that predate that move and deanox is one of them.

Really, I thought it was much earlier than that.

Sorry, just saw subsequent posts. I was reading demonland and demonology in the very early 2000s. For some reason Demonology made it through the government firewall but Demonland didn't.

Either way, Demonland and the MFC pales into significance vs the 40,000 years of our first nations people which is why it's great we are renaming ourselves Narrm as a way of showing our respects and helping the continuation of that culture!

I'm trying to imagine why your Government agency's firewall would allow Demonology and not Demonland. It's OK to study demons but not go on a holiday to visit them?

Quite right.

Of course the real answer would lay in the coding platforms used by each. Land was more like a common forum build whereas that old Midnight set up ology used seemed to go unnoticed.

But there is not a lot humour in that.

I'm not sure they can. Clubs named after inner urban Melbourne suburbs, such as Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond are presumably a part of the same land as us and I imagine would also be part of Narrm. Perhaps interstate clubs and Geelong could do it should they choose.

It's a great sign of how we're going that any of Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond etc could have got the jump on us and called themselves Narrm before us.

It seems that Collingwood and Richmond have their own Aboriginal names, so no need for them to assume ‘ours’.

Ten previously forgotten Aboriginal names for 19th century sites and suburbs of Melbourne have been recently unearthed at the Melbourne Museum. These include the names for Fitzroy (Ngár-go), Richmond (Quo-yung), Collingwood (Yálla-birr-ang) and Brunswick (Bulleke-bek).

I love it.  Dees continuing to lead the way, both on and off the field.

Nailed it DOFart.

This club just does things so well these days.

This initiative is a credit to them because it comes from the heart.  And a chance to see the great Aaron Davey again. He used to terrify any player he was within 20m off - mantle now ably carried by Kozzie - as per the first 1/4 of the GF last year.

Frightened the Doggies into kicking to Jacko for Spargos goal.

Similarly, listening to Matty Wheelan and Flash Davey and it's clear how genuinely this initiative is appreciated by our indigenous brethren.

In particular I loved hearing Davey speak in the video put up by the club.  I had thought Davey was amoung those like Jnr,  Green etc that felt abandoned and offended by the club at the end of their careers when they were asked/told to ignominiously retire, however hearing him speak about Narrm Football Club the other day it was great to hear the passion and great affection that Flash still has for the club.

While I suspect it's not the only reason, the commitment, respect and embrace that we have extended towards to the indigenous culture at the club in recent times must help guys like Flash, May, Kossie, Toby and the other indigenous players we have on our list feel like they truely belong at the club, when they come from such a different cultural background and could otherwise easily feel somewhat like outsiders.

Also loved it when Jeffy Garlett was at the club and the whole team wore boots painted by him with indigenous art a few years back.

Doesn't Aaron Davey have about 603 sons? What ages are they now?

Hmmm, not sure about that one, but it wouldn't take many as he's from pretty good sporting lineage obviously:

Brother Alwyn played 100 games for Essendon;

Cousin of Gavin Wanganeen and NBA star Patrick Mills

Sister Bronwyn played AFLW for the mighty Demons in the first exibition game against the Dogs

From what I can gather Aaron has 5 kids, 3 boys, 2 girls, so pleanty of superstars for both our sides respectively - so maybe in a few seasons, there'll be little red and blue Flashes out on the G again!!

Not to derail the thread, but I think PJ was pretty firm on Flash being treated with dignity on the way out. Hence, I believe he got some form of employment related to the club teed up and some type of recognition at our last game against the Dogs that year.

You are dead right on Junior and Green however. Their nose was rightly out of joint with how they were forced to retire.

Thanks Colin.  It's all a bit of a blur at times these days and so many things from that era we'd all rather forget if we could.

When something is more meaningful than you know, because you just don’t know. And that’s ok, but just get out of the way.

How good was that!

Love what this club is doing and the way we conduct ourselves.

So proud to be a Dees fan and will be for life.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
