Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

TMacs time at Casey will do him no harm. He dominated yesterday.

The level of competition is an issue but that can't be fixed. Box Hill next week should be a good test for him though looking at the ladder they're not flying.

Allowing for the competition level I think TMac's game at Casey just shaded Weid's game  but let's see what the next 2 weeks bring

He looked clearly a step above everyone else on the field when the ball was near him

Match committee: do you prefer the Moet or the Bollinger?

We are blessed with choice. I think some are too harsh on Smith, it was a howler but Nibbler was probably a worse offender trying to run a through spots he was clearly going to get caught.

Matthew Lloyd on AAA said Weid is the more natural forward than BB and TMac and we should persevere with him. An interesting observation.

Dunstan was good and seemed to be playing to our system but, and I thought I would never say this, Viney has been good for a goal each week, largely from set shots.

Lever , Viney in.  Bedford out with Dunstan taking the sub spot.

The difference is ANB has the runs on the board where Smith Doesn't yet.

Dunstan as the sub makes a lot of sense. He is a versatile and good footballer.

I'm stoked that Weid is being given a run at it as I do think he has more to offer than what he has shown so far.

However, some of the calls about him being ahead of of Brown are ridiculous.  Brown's height alone (and the fact that he takes the ball at its highest point) worries anyone he goes against and he is the most reliable set shot.  Weid has a good kicking action so with confidence could end up the best but hasn't done it consistently.

With the fitness of our key forwards and ruckman, I'm loving that we can isolate whichever forward is going to cause headaches for the opposition - whether it be Brown, Weid, Tmac, Gawn, Jacko, Fritsch, Trac, Pickett - it really is an embarrassment of riches!

Not sure if it has already been mentioned, but given some whispers on here suggesting both Viney & Lever had COVID, they will both be out of H&S protocols and available for the Dorks 👍

It has been mentionned but the injury report says Available

Not totally convinced we are a better off playing Weid  in the same side as Brown .  Still think T.Mac is a better option due to his ability to play defence and forward.

In Lever and Viney

Out Smith and Dunstan

Would love to see Smith play forward for Casey.

There seems to be a strong anxiety on the board about us losing a KP Defender mid match, and thus TMAC is the only way to manage such a scenario, thus he retains his spot in the side...

I'd argue there a range of other options, that don't include TMAC. Including one of the rucks to drop into the hole.

If we lose a defender mid match... then so be it.... it happens.

Some bizarre discussions around selections going on here.

We've proven time and time again over the past 18 months that we simply do NOT make big wholesome changes if we win or lose.

Lever and Viney will be in. Dunstan (really stiff) and Smith out.

There will be none of this crap of James Jordon, ANB or even Tom Sparrow of being dropped.

Couldn't agree more. Think people are just seeking novelty. Dropping ANB? Jordon? Bizarre. Why not pick away at the fabric of the team, for the sake of it? Dunstan - accomplished, smart, and tough - will be very stiff. But I think they like him around, so perhaps he'll the sub. Smith will also be a bit stiff. One shocking mistake, but otherwise I thought he was pretty good. Tom McD is too good to be in the VFL, and can play just about anywhere if needed. But there's no spots just now.

I’d have Smith In the team over Hunt

Have some sympathy for your view about Smith: the club rates him too. But dropping Hunt would be a travesty. Was really excellent against Richmond, on his 100th. Did it without fuss and without histrionics. Appeared in some of the votes. Hawthorn has some nippy types. He's needed, and he's in.

I’m neither a Smith fan nor critic and he has had some good games this year. But that one calamity on its own warrants for him to go back to the 2’s and work on his decision making skills for a good few weeks. Either he has completely panicked and wanted nothing to do with the ball (worrying for a lockdown defender), or he didnt look to see if he was giving it off to a teammate (poor peripherals).

I’ve watched the replay several times, and I am perplexed by it every time. Those kinds of brainfades aren’t warranted in junior footy, let alone the AFL. Imagine if that cost your team a win.

Joel needs to learn from that mistake. Many, many learnings.

No it doesn't, if the positives of playing his role outweigh the negatives of that one error. As many have said there are minimal changes each week, Lever is one of our best defenders so yes Smith is likely to make way for him but it won't be for that one error. (as Kate Roffey said "We're not that team any more").

Matthew Lloyd might be right in stating that Weid is the more natural forward than BB and TMac. I would agree regarding TMac but not BB.

However, we no longer have a game where teams rely on a natural forward a la Matthew Lloyd or a Full Forward of the past generation or 5. We have a game where versatility, two way running, contested footy etc predominant. Fritsch is successful because he is good in the air and on the ground, and can win his own ball no matter how the ball enters the forward line. And he kicks goals from limited opportunities. His skill set means he is difficult to match up and has the happy knack of being able to lose his opponent.

Weid is the more natural lead to position and be the recipient of the well delivered ball. But we don’t play that way any more. It’s bomb the ball forward and have a group of versatile players create opportunities from a loose ball.

Watching the matches so far it appears that the coaches and BB and Weid have not worked out how to play together without tripping over one another or their teammates.

I just can’t see how we can have both players up forward as the season progresses. It seems out of balance.

BB is harder to match up on, normally a reliable kick for goal and had also had shown terrific second and third efforts. He is footy smart and know where to go.

I think we are better off going with BB rather than Weid.

Weid does not seem to suit our game plan. Clearly Goodwin and others are prepared to persevere with Weid but he does not seem the right fit. The coaches see it differently and they are in a position to know. It just seems odd.

For his first up game (for us) and playing against a decent opponent on a big stage, i reckon Dunstan went very well.

His composure in congestion and vision / poise to see those on the outside and hit them up, more so in the second half, seemed to be at the level.  The ability to quickly change  lanes to flip the ball around to a player in a better spot outside is a handy asset to have.

If not for the potential concussion i reckon the MC would have a fairly tough call on its hands this week between him and JJ.  JJ however has a few more credits at this stage, no doubt playing a fairly diff role and would likely still have gotten the nod playing quite well himself.

I do not know what all the talk is about Dunstan suffering Concussion. ?  He never did according to the MFC and in fact came back on the ground after the incident. Even the MFC www site never mentions the word "concussion"

Add to the Demons woes at the selection table is the fact now that Hibbo is available but I tend to agree with you.

IN: Viney and Lever

OUT: Dunstan (unlucky) and Smith ( gave away two goals which is a No No...)

All this  analyses of Weideman makes it seem as if Lloyd doesn't know  he's been in and out of the team for the last five or so years but can't come good..

He's a leading marking forward who can't catch the ball

He's a good kick

He looks as dopey as Mathew Lloyd but isnt as talented which is a pity but still  maybe the Hawks have long memories about playing against him and will be a little worried.

BBB plays like Mr Squiggle but is better at footy.

Tom is the best of the three but can't keep his form over a full season and he's had nearly 200 games to prove it

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
