Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We have the best game in the world.

Why I don't go to AFL matches. (I regularly go to local matches)

Flashing lights! How does that improve the spectacle? I even have trouble with that on the TV

Loud music! In breaks in play I like to talk to people not stick my fingers in my ears.

Admittedly there is also the 6 hours of driving but that is bearable.

So I pay my membership to support the team I love, but I cannot subject myself to pointless flashing lights and pounding music. It ruins a pleasurable experience.

Could not agree more. Enjoy your local footy and it probably has not yet been ruined by the broadcast media

Blah Blah Blah

l get to around 10 games a year & live in East Gippsland, the closest train station is Bairnsdale a half hour drive, a 9 hour round trip

Sometimes l drive there and back in the day

And sometimes stay overnight in town

Im 58 and a full time landscape gardener

The snow fields are an hour & a half up the road and I’ve never been

People  are more than entitled to not turn up, but it’s the ones that get on these forums complaining about fixtures, times, cost, umpiring etc etc are kidding themselves how much they love the club

These are the same people complaining about how poor we’re playing this year with a 10-2 record

It’s understandable with the older generation with weather and travelling alone at night, the rest is unfortunately why our fan base will never be taken seriously

Weve been a [censored] club for along time, we should all be trying to enjoy the experience live now because it changes pretty quickly

For the first time ever my kid has expressed an interest in going, so I use my membership barcode to log into Ticketmaster, choose 'member guest ticket 6-14 years' and pay $3.50 extra booking fee only for her to be assigned a spot in what seems to be a completely different part of the ground to the one I've been assigned on my digital membership.

I can't confirm this, because that's got me sitting in section 'GA42' which I don't think exists, and while an entry gate would give me some clue about which stand I'm supposed to go to, the bit where it says 'see below' for details doesn't have any details

It's an ambitious game to take a guest to but JFC what a farcical process. Given that I've been assigned a seat in a fictional area I'll just take up the spot next to the guest ticket, wait for the actual ticketholder to turn up and try to negotiate.

Our crowds are UP from pre-covid crowds.  One of only two teams to have increased (which the author mentions in the third last paragraph of https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-crowds-slump-to-lowest-levels-in-26-years-excluding-covid-seasons-20220523-p5anq3.html).  Crowd numbers is a league wide issue which is affecting MFC far less than 16 other clubs.

And winning a premiership doesn't magically produce instant supporters. It takes more than 6 months from a premiership to see significant upturn in raw supporter numbers.

I also wonder if there is a big difference in the mindset and arousal levels at the mid-year mark of supporters supporting a teams that most consider a lock for top 2 to those supporting teams hoping for a finals position.

Your post is way off mark and also a previous response by KD GIRL as well.

Increasing crowds that you say is laughable when you use 2019 as the guide!! We won 5 games  then.

And what proof have you that it takes 6 months for crowds to increase after a premiership?  In other words from 2021 we have to wait 6 mths is April 2022 !!!

No all the reasons for weak excuses by Dees fans in this forum are just a reason why we may never reach our potential to challenge the BIG Clubs snd if/when we are not in the top or successful won't one day have a Club to barrack for.

To  think it was only 2013/4 that we won 2 games and our complacent self satisfied fans are critical now we are good is almost disrespectable to the heroes that have lifted us up where we are today.

Most  of the reasons are just lazy, negative snd selfish. Standard of games umpiring ticketing ( most don't even know the system properly) despite the Club info spoiling them.

The Club  has 62,000 members and many are so precious it's just heartbreaking reading adults reacting like petulant 5 yo's when they try and justify reasons not to come. Keep your money the Club needs bums on seats

It's a winter game always has been the transport system is there use it to your advantage.

In reply to KATRINA DEE GIRL you couldn't even put your reply points with correct no's using letters deliberately to confuse with your mostly confusing mis information.

And when fans sign off with a self satisfied cv of their support it's just another defence mechanism to feel justified to criticise in this forum.

Just for your info KFG I am a 57 year consecutive member went for 27 consecutive years 1965 to 1992 to all VFL games each season before moving interstate. I did not comeback to Victoria even for some Christmases till the 2000's and since 2012 have averaged 5 home games snd the Brisbane fixtures each season, giving to raffles and the win each game find for the Club.

Hsve been to the 2018 Finals  in Melb (in the middle of cancer treatment ) from interstate and was in a great lifetime experience  at the 2021 premiership win in Perth after 14 days " quarantining" in SA.

Have been in2022 so far to the Rounds vs Dogs Bombers  Tigers Swans and on Monday to Pies plus vs Suns in Round 2 at Metricon. Also to our party in Dec to celebrate our magnificent Flag!

So Please don't assume because you quoted "selected figures " and are so insecure to query my loyalty and passion that that makes  your post accurate and very authoritative as a result.

So KDG get down from your high horse ( if it's not too far for you to jump down ) and don't make wild guesses snd accusations about my love for the Dees.

I am not answering some of your points one by one as you obviously can't understand most of them.

Reread them maybe snd open your judgement to their meaning.

Do you have an 11 game membership? If so and you’re wanting both of you to have a reserved seat then you have to select a seat for you both. The digital membership only gets you General Admission, there’s no seat attached to it.

GA42 means nothing. You’re told to ignore the section, row, seat allocation, and instead turn up early to get seats together. I can’t remember the GA gates through which you should enter but just do what I do: go through the wrong gate (each and every single time 😁) and walk to the relevant bay once inside.
But if you you’d prefer accurate and reliable info, I’m sure @Lucifers Hero will be happy to advise. 😊

Regarding your attitude about not giving the Filth any of your hard earned money- honourable.

Presume you are not a member (because we can get in to this game as a ‘replacement game’ or whatever the terminology is).

Something you might want to consider. MFC had a $65 Demon Spirit Membership offer for the remaining home games including the Queens birthday clash.  That way you can get to see the Filth lose to us and bring you great joy.

If not financially in a position to consider this option, apologies in advance, I’m sure you’ll be barracking hard in front of a telly somewhere. GO DEES

The floating fixture has been criticised and one problem with it hadn't dawned on me until now. If I want to go to other events - perhaps the theatre to see "Hamilton" - or to have a golf weekend, in the past I would have looked at the fixture and planned around that. I would book my tickets to see Hamilton on a Saturday night when I knew we wouldn't be playing. Similarly, my golf weekend would be scheduled for a weekend when I knew we wouldn't playing in Melbourne.

With the floating fixture, I can't do that for any more. And I think that's a problem. I'm still going to go to Hamilton and I'm still going to plan a golf weekend. Footy will just miss out if they happen to clash.

PS: This is not entirely true. I don't play golf.

PPS: Caroline Wilson didn't go the Richmond v PA game because she was at the ballet instead. Who could blame her? The ballet tickets would have been arranged before the scheduling of the Richmond game was known.

The AFL know Thursday night is a fizzer for attendances:  “It was a soft number but it was Thursday night, it was a few thousand below forecast, and it was cold, and all of the above,” McLachlan said.  -small-afl-crowds-mclachlan

How dumb to schedule a Thrusday night game during a bye week and only 1 game today.

I suspect we won't see many Thursday night games in June and July next year.

Reckon we will get a bigger Thursday night crowd than Richond vs Port when we play Brisbane as their Fitzroy supporters will come out like the old South fans did - they get only a few chances to see their teams play in Victoria.

Sorry to disagree LH but there will be more Thursday night games in 2023. That is what the broadcast media want and it is one of the few ways the AFL have left to increase the money in a new media deal. Any comments about low attendance number by the AFL are just them  telling us what we want to hear. Mushroom stuff.

I did say not in June and July.

More next year. fine - play them in March, April, May and August when its a bit warmer.  Or if the AFL want JUne and July Thursday night games with crowds schedule them in Qld, Syd or Perth.

If Melb played Brisbane at the Gabba in a few weeks rather than at the G they would probably get over 40,000.  It isn't rocket science.

It is just dumb to have Thursday night games in Melb, in winter especially vs i/state sides.

And a novel idea:  play them at Marvel where there is a roof to offer some protection from the elements.

AFL announced North's attendance as 13,700+. Would lay money that they included 5,000 Medallion memberships when convenient wether anyone is there or not. Been doing it for years. Corrupt to the core they are.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out.
