Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hasn’t bothered me. I’ve been to all 3 home games and last year I went to 7 games including the practice match v bulldogs at marvel.

Genuinely curious about the low attendance we are seeing atm. Give the reasons you have heard and/or given.

Aside from it being a long weekend, people just aren’t interested in watching giants or Gold Coast.

last yr Richmond played in front of 9k against the Suns.

richmond, hawthorn and saints up next and we will average 55-60 across the three weeks easy

There were probably a lot of small reasons for not being there, plenty mentioned above such as Easter hols with people getting away, Covid, no real local rivalry (apart from Scully) and the ticketing  system which is a shambles. I know a few members that would have been at the game normally but were out of town for the Easter break.

It was strangely quiet on the way to the game,  I come down Rathdowne St to get into the city and the traffic was very quiet. We got to the ground very quickly from the northern suburbs. Even the lady manning the cash register in the MCG food outlet commented how quiet traffic had been on the way in from Portsea.  The weather was great for footy, but also great for a few days away.

I counted around 70 - 80 GWS supporters in their area behind the goal, so they didn't bring many to pump up the attendance.

It’s the first Easter break Melbournians have been able to travel since 2019.

I went last night and had a blast. However, most of my friends and family are not currently in the state due to finally having freedom to live somewhat normally.

There’s more important things than random games of football.

Haven’t missed a match and not planning to unless I get Covid or am a close contact.
Have waited my whole life to watch this team be good. I can do other things any time but I may never get to watch a dominant Melbourne again

Fools are those who are not bothering to turn up. You’re missing out on pure joy.
I get that many people are away this weekend, but every week this season I’ve heard lame excuses. The footy is no more a Covid risk than flying interstate, going to a restaurant or a club. If you don’t want to deal with buying tickets online GET A MEMBERSHIP.

Ticketing is a big issue from talking to people at work. Wonder if the MCG going cashless is another reason. There are some people left in the world that like to pay with cash.
We probably have to temper expectations with crowds this year, Carl v Haw had a ripper crowd of 67k or thereabouts, the following week Hawks v Saints at the same ground get 30k.

For perspective, Hawks got 17K to one of their games against GWS at the MCG right in the middle of their dynasty.

I would’ve thought Dees fans would be treating every game like it’s their last given what most of us missed out on last year, but not to be.

We’ve had 27,000 (2016) and 37,000 (2018) to previous GWS games so last nights crowd was disappointing. So to was the Essendon game in round 3 Suspect we’re under the budgeted home attendance thus far.

Will be interested to see the crowds for today’s two games: Carl v Port and Ess v Freo.

I expect both to be bigger than ours despite today being Easter Sunday.

Absolutely no doubt they will be bigger. My predictions:

30K to Carlton v Port

25K to Essendon V Freo.

No Demons match is a “random game of football” to me, anyways.

Spot on Jaded.

For all those years we've been going along being crapp or just mediocre, how good is it to go and be dominant and in control.  My youngest son hasn't seen us loose a game live at the MCG yet and long may it continue ... the kid doesn't know how good he's got it!!

I will say this in relation to last nights game, coming in from Eltham on the Hurstbridge train line.

As buses were replacing trains between Hurstbridge and Clifton Hill, I observed quite a number of Melbourne fans choosing to walk away when they discovered trains weren’t running.

What is normally a 40 minute train ride to Jolimont became an hour and a half bus ride with a driver who had no idea where he was going to stop at every train station, all while empty stubbies rolled around mine and my kids feet.

While I understand line works need to happen, it wasn’t a great start to our evening, especially when I rarely go with the kids and how excited they were.

Anyway, we went, we had a great win and the family enjoyed themselves. Now time to rip into some hot cross buns.

Interesting poll results.

Demonland is definitely an older demographic if Covid is the primary reason!

Easter obviously played a big part. Nice to see the MCC barely a quarter full, everyone down at Sorrento I'm assuming.

We're old as a supporter base so many must be concerned about covid. The essendon game was super disappointing considering Hawthorn and Carlton nearly managed 70,000 the following day at an early Sunday game.

Ticketing needs to [censored] off, it is a complete shambles.

It'll be really disappointing if we don't break 70,000 for Anzac eve.

Get that it was GWS Easter, etc, but as a club, we can't afford to throw away our moment in the sun either.

Games that draw just 20K are deflating and don't build that atmosphere that keep bringing people back to the footy to get on board the Demon train.  How much more impressive and intimidating would it have been if we had 40k supporters there last night to their 200.  Low attendance numbers become a self fulfilling prophecy.

If we are to build our membership and supporter base to be something which will sustain us through the long winters of being middle of the pack which will come somewhere down the track, we really need to make the most of the on feild sucess we are having now.  I actually feel that the club should be making a concerted effort in its marketing and messaging  from players, coaches etc during the week to get supporters turning up to games, GWS or not.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
